Having played everything up until that point, I got borerd out of my skull with WOW in 1 week in the final beta (PVE) and never played at release. Recently I bought wow and lvled up to 85 (PVP server) with the release of the expansion. It was ok but it held my attention for longer than a week this time around, mainly because of open world PVP. The point is that 12 million players later, it SURE came a long way in the last 8 years although there are still WAY too many hoops to jump through. A great example being archaeology - worst mini-game EVER, but you are forced to do it if you want the rewards - thats not fun. THe point is, give it some time. Now if you play PVE I don't blame you for being bored fast.
RIFT has been out for a month and it does have hoops, but a lot of the annoying stuff is also cut out. They also seem to listen to what people want. Unfortunately us at mmorpg.com are the minority. The majority make up the other 11000000 people that play.
I am playing the free weekend so I'll have more to offer after that.
Oh, and I amcurious how many of you played on a PVP server.
Someone sited classes playing the same as a detriment and they had picked a PVE server. Personally I hate classes and I think they should be all the same for balance reasons, and the game should be open world PVP. Variety can exist in a million other places including art, lore errects among a few - but thats my personal preference as I never play PVE. At this stage PVE in games is really old and repetitive and boring in every game. PVP at lease ads spontaneity and surprises you quite often.
I do know one thing, playing WOW on a PVE server is completely useless, its a very different game on a PVP server.
*sigh* why can't games be good like EVE and UO? (obligatory praise). Seriously, moar non-leveling games.
I liked both EVE and UO, but seriously, Eve has an interminably long skill leveling time to effectively use the best ships and UO was a skill grindfest to get all the skills you needed maxed out. Not sure I understand the notion that leveling skills is somehow better than leveling characters: they both take time and skills are often even more grindy than levels (EVE a new twist on it where skills are a time not effort grind, although ISK is still an effort grind).
GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind" 1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN 2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements
I got a rogue to 50 warrior to 26 and cleric to 40, i would have quit long before i did if my friends werent there. I could sit around playing cards with my friends and have fun though. Was really disapointed in the 50 warfront, all the PVE going on in a place where pvE has no place.
Only one new WF at 50, and warfronts are not enough by themselves to keep me interested.
Open world PVP virtually non-existant due to the fact that everyone is in an instance getting their shiny carrots.
Not a big fan of open world PVP anyway, usually its just killing some guy who is trying to pve or getting killed by some guy while you are trying to pve, thats not true pvp, its just stupid senseless ganking.
I chose 20-29. But the main reason is that RIFT is simply not for me. I really enjoyed the newer systems like Rifts and the Soul systems which really gave me enough "food" to remain entertained for a little while, but once I got past those "new" things, I couldn't keep playing RIFT anymore. I'm not a big fan of tab-targetting games anymore, so I guess RIFT really did a great job at holding my attention, even if only for a short while even if I knew I'd get bored in this MMORPG. Nonethelss, I played from Beta 3 to 7, mostly just trying everything out, soul combinations, etc.
I would be lying if I said that I did not enjoy the game, because I definitively did. It's a very polished product with some very interesting features, but aside from those redeeming features, the game just isn't for me..
50. The game's grind is so short-and-sweet with the constant 1-ups and pats on the back never left me at a point where I felt like it would be a good time to stop. That and no gear gaps. I really appreciated that. However, I was soloing rifts so I never had a quest gap. My guildies found the last couple of levels a bit more frustrating than I felt they were.
Personally I hate classes and I think they should be all the same for balance reasons, and the game should be open world PVP.
Ever thought about games like Quake Arena or other FPS?
And no, I'm not trolling you - if you hate classes or character differenciation, it's possible MMORPGs just aren't the right games for you.
Quake Arena or other FPS don't have the open world pvp that an MMORPG has, they're 2 very different things.
There are quite a number of MMORPG's that don't use classes, but balancing will always be an issue in MMORPG's, I don't think there's ever something close to 100% balance, so it'll always be a work in progress especially if new skills, levels or gear is introduced.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

I'm obviously aware of that, as someone who played both UO and AC1. But the person I answered to is apparently against any character differenciation, he wants everybody to be a carbon copy of everyone else. Even MMOFPS attempts always had character progression and customization.
His best bet to find a playstyle that matches his wishes are still FPS games. Not a single MMORPG doesn't allow character customization (and it won't happen anytime soon).

I voted 10-19. I rolled every archetype and on both sides. All of them I never got past 20. I played Guardian more.
I saw the game "evolve" from the very first beta right up to before the last few betas. I stopped playing right around when the level cap for the betas was increased for further testing by the public.
I saw it coming, I called it and I knew I wouldn't be able to stomach it. WoW got it completely out of my system. So much so that I never hit cap in any other MMO I played after WoW because I knew exactly what was waiting for me.
Aside from the combat being a snoozefest. I fell asleep a few times while playing. It's never happened to me aside from when I used to raid until late in the night.
I didn't like the armor. I gave it some thumbs up because it wasn't painted on but other than that it was subpar at best. It had (still doesn't) no originality or creativity. Actually it permeated the whole game: drabness.
I had major beef with the in combat animations too and I tried giving as much feedback as I could about that.
Had it been a F2P I wouldn't have been so demanding. But seeing an interview with one of the head honchos about how much money was pumped into that piñata I was expecting more, to be frank.
As more time passes and you stop hearing from the usual fanboys it'll soon be time to dust off the ass kissing posts made about the company and the game. Just to rub it in a little more.
People shouldn't get their hopes up and be more pessimistic. I sure am about TERA. The only one of the upcoming AAA releases that I managed to try.
So far, the only people I see getting bored with Rift are mostly the younger players who get bored easy no matter what and power gamer types who chew through the content of any game in the matter of weeks.
Personally, between Rift hunting, Artifact hunting, crafting, harvesting, questing, exploring, socializing, guild recruiting, raiding and pvp ing..I've only reached lv 37 while averaging 6+ hours a day since early play. Throw in the random, massive, server wide npc invasions !! and ...I'm far from bored!
A game is what you make of it. At some point, a person has to start making their own content. A developer can only build the themepark, what you do in that park is up to you.
Bored between 10-19. Started several characters and decided this game is not worth spending money on. Luckily I played it during final beta stages. Every race, every class, every subclass, everyone has to go through the exact same areas. You can't even decide to move to another quest hub without having completed the quests in the previous hub. This game has one path to follow and one path only.
It's no open world, it's not a persistant one. It's a themepark MMO with lackluster attractions, no thrills and frills. I had the 'been there, done that' feeling within a few minutes. For a company which claims to have combined the best of things, the certainly managed to copy the worst.
Late 40s the quests really felt like a grind, now I'm leveling a toon through warfronts only. The only reason I'm bored is there's a lot of RL issues with a good number of guildies so there haven't been many on this or last week.
Level 38 for me. I was trying to push myself to at least 40 to get the better mount but I realized that i wasn't able to deal with the insane amount of quests, I just couldn't do it anymore. Crafting is bleh at best and pvp is so insanely imbalanced as a mage that I couldn't stomach many warfronts (although I never tried after thier "balancing" patch cause I didn't resub).
The problem I have, and I'm sure most other people have, is that the game is so repetetitive. After 10-15 levels how much can you really depend on people to do the same quest over and over again? I tried leveling in battlegrounds, I got 2-3 levels that way.
I think I would stick to it and give it more of a "go", but the endgame content so far just seems so bland. I hear from a lot of people that the dungeons at the end are really challenging, but something more would be nice.
Another thing that bothers me is the equipment models. 75-80% of the equipment in the game just looks god awful. The plate armor? Don't get me started. I've never seen an MMO where the best looking armor is cloth/chain. Seeing a level 50 purple armor piece that looks the exact same as a level 5 grey peice doesn't exactly make me want to go all out for it. There needs to be a sense of "prestige" with armor. While some level 50 epic's look cool, it just doesn't do it for me.

I just started playing it yesterday... l'm still familiarizing the game
Level 21, after moving to Gloamwood....felt like I was back in Duskwood...just decided I wasn't going through it again and unsubbed.

but it also includes people who beta tested but didnt buy the game.
So have to consider that as well for whatever its worth.
btw I was bored in beta 4 at level 26.

14 for me.
Wasnt really having any fun tho but I had to at least play the game for a while so I could form an opinion.
