no mmo has pvp perfectly balanced but what rift did in last patch was buff a already powerful soul called pyro in mage tree, nerf rogues and warriors and make clerics very very hard to kill.
would not be such a big deal if the natural predator as ADVERTIZED on their website the voidknight is completely nerfed.
I'd wait until the summer or just after if you want 'better' PVP outside of the Warfronts, guild quests and daily world pvp quests atm - the basic struchure is there and theres RVR built into the game but as of yet not active due to other fouces the devs have to deal with first (check out a few interviews) and theres no dought 'PVP Rifts' aren't on the drawing board already..
Trion are completely on the ball with patch and content updates so theres no worry that the game will 'stall' like many other MMOs out there, plus hopping over on a PVP server and messing up the other faction's Rifts and bases with friends is not only an option but RECOMMENDED as PVP by the devs, theres a lot more reason to 'World PVP' then in other games.
As for questing: TBH I'd reccomend not only you don't quest 100% Rift farm and WF instead but have more then one soul build type going at once just to mix the gameplay up a little - sticking just to questing and one build gets old quickly, plus misses the point of the game (and strongest reason to play this) completely
I've been watching some videos, reading reviews, etc and it looks like fun. However, I'm being rather cautious because 1) I'm a poor college student 2) I've tried a couple other MMOs that have come out in the past few years, which have bored me after 1-2 months (like Warhammer Online), despite receiving solid reviews. The only MMO I've ever stuck with is World of Warcraft, which I have finally quit after 6 years. From what I've seen, I have two concerns so far which are:
1) Lackluster questing: Will I become so bored I quit before I even get to the fun stuff?
2) PvP: Unbalanced/uncompetitive? PvP is my main interest, and is what kept me playing WoW so long, having a large pool of competitive players and competing with other top tier players in the arenas. I've heard that with so many class customization options balance is out of control from a PvP perspective and I haven't heard anything about an arena system in the game.
Thanks for your input.
after playing at closed and open beta this game is wow without fun for me. 20 of my friends stated rift, 17 quit, 2 still have active accouts but they are not playing and only 1 still playing but whinning about low population after free month
I'm constantly playing as a healing cleric, I'm about 200.000 prestige from prestige 6 by pure healing so far (which yelds the lowest amount of favor/prestige in the game).
Diminishing returns were introduced with patch 1.1. Perma squirreling is gone and so are the long perma stuns/silences, AoE or otherwise. They still happen, after all in order to start seeing diminishing effects you'll need to get hit once for full effect. But with some careful gameplay (no bunching up) less people get affetcted and since two out of three spikers are out of the game, it's easier to keep the stunned people alive than before. Check your PvP soul for help on that too.
Save your money if your lookig for a good PvP game. I have unsubbed to Rift due to the PvP being subpar to say the least.
Here is why.
Warfront AFKers, yep the same crap that was in WoW is back and as problomatic as ever. 4-5 people out of 10-15 are afk botting. Which means auto lose for you if they on your team.
Only 4 WF. grinding them over and over again gets old, fast.
Little or NO open world PvP, and no reason to at this point. Guardians outnumber defiant 2 to 1 or more ( at least on my server) so that means even for world events guardians own just due to sheer numbers.
Population imbalances- at least on my cluster defiant almost always lose but have instant Q pops, Guardian almost always win but have 30-40 minute wait times for a single WF to pop.
lackluster PvP gear. Even at prestige rank 6 your shiney purple PvP gear will be outshined by the casual PvE guy, no pvp ranking system of any sort. Basically you will be just grinding WF for sub par gear, constantly losing as defiant or at a snails pace as guardian due to long Q times.
Class imbalances- Nuff said ( but it is an MMO and pvp is rarely balanced)
Thats just what I can think of off the top of my head. IMO Rift is a great PvE game and if played as such will be enjoyed. PvPers look elsewhere. this is another PvE game with a dash of PvP which will likely be ignored mostly. Every 4th or 5th update expect a small bone for the PvP crowd just so they can say they did so.
Once again this is my opinion, and worth exactly what you paid for it
Why don't you name a MMO that has perfectly balanced pvp, realm balance, good pvp gear (your own argument contradicts itself if pvp gear was ubber which ever side that has better gear would win so much for balance) etc. Even DAoC had plenty of those issues. If you want a *perfect* pvp game you should not be playing MMOs.
No where did I say anything about wanting a perfect PvP game, I even said PvP in MMOs is hard to balance and rarely is.
The OP was asking about PvP, so I gave him my opinion. I do like rift and am currently subbed and will more than likely stay subbed for at least a few more months.
But no one can honestly say Rift PvP is good, not even close to it. If you wanna be a fanboy then thats fine, but at least be honest about the state of the game. Rift is a very good PvE game with a side dish of PvP thrown in to appease the masses. Anyone looking for a game just for PvP should steer clear.
And once again in case you missed it the 1st 3 times, this is my opinion only. Dont get your fanboy thong in a bunch because someone has an opinion that differs.

My advice is u look for some trial Keys for the week-end at Rift´s facebook page & try for yourself.
I´m enjoying the game ^^
mmorpgs are not known for balanced pvp, but in case you don't care then:
waiting queues between matches are somewhere around 1-10min
you get decent gear and xp
once you are 50 you can do PvP all day. while you are lvling up there are some lvl ranges where you have to wait longer for invites

Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
The white part holds some merit, although the massive whining over 1.1 PvP changes would indicate otherwise.
The orange part is inaccurate and not indicative to the current state of the game.
