I haven't played yet, I almost bought it, earlier, though. I missed out on beta, so, in the midst of canceling my WoW subscription for this, I saw there was a trial coming, and I had no need to cancel anything, for I could easily DL and try it out. Wrong.
RIFT shows up in my account, I download once, (earlier this week) I get the beta launcher, which obviously didn't work, so I had to dig for the right link. It patches, but I can't log in 'till Friday, when the Trial starts. I try logging in and get error #2002, which possibly has the most "FFFFUUUUUUUUUU" approach to telling you you can't play, that I've ever seen. It's not a "kindly upgrade account" or "sorry, you can't join this trial." It actually says "NOT ENTITLED" "You are not authorized to play this game."
I look up the error, and their own sight hasn't ben updated for this, since beta. It seems they weren't ready for this, so when a real trial comes out, I'll try again, 'till then, I'm not giving them a dime, unless someone can get me around this. Sorry, Trion.

What trial are you talking about? im on the main site and there isnt anything about a trial. I think you got rick rolled.
Allies of the Ascended. It's on my accound under manage games as Friday at 8-monday at 10- or something. I got the key from MMORPG.com.
AH, thats the play with your friends weekend thing. im not sure if there was an event going on as well. the wireless network im on is very unstable.
My brother in law used the beta install and updated everything just fine. He was able to play on the last event. Have you checked the rift forums for any answers by chance?

There is supposed to be a trial this weekend starting friday at 10 am. They also had one last weekend that you had to get a key from a subscribed player, but this one was supposed to be for anyone who was interested. My roomate tried last week during the friend pass trial and could not play. Not sure what the deal is with all this. I do however know its working for some, because i talked to many trial players last weekend and last night.

when you applied your code what did it say after that?
I used the code from mmorpg.com, downloaded, and have had no problem playing. Uninstall everything, re-download, and it should work.
I've tried installing and re-installing from both links (One download a Rift_BETA_Patcher.exe, which I think is an error, and one a Rift_PLAY_patcher.exe.) No dice. error 2002.
Idk how you cant find information...it was on the launcher, on the website, and on many gaming websites. Ive seen it advertised multiple times.

It should come up on your list on "My account" tab if it says it there it should work.
Free to play means pay to win.
Rift_LIVE_Patcher_setup.exe is what it is called, downloaded on thursday directly from the rift website
I dont think this is right, but this is what i found on the main rift forums. You should be able to do the weekend thing without putting any info in. Bro in law never input any CC info at all.

Yeah, I got the My account tab, and it is Rift_LIVE not PLAY, as a stated earlier (oops) Can't find any relevent info pretaining to why I can't log in, or why I'm, as they said, "Not entitled" to log in.
Perhaps the key has already been used? They are one use keys. Other that that, I've no real idea. I know several people from my WoW guild that tried it, and they didn't have any problem.
I'm looking into this, if it works, I'll update this thread, and update on how it is. Thanks, this is the most promising thing I've gotten. (It's still not working, but It may take a few min. to work. Also, did anyonw else do this?)

OKAY! FIXED error 2002
Changed password, re-installed launcher, changed e-mail. Doing one at a time didn't work, doind all three, then logging did. Thanks for everyone who tried to help me, and I'll update what I think of this game, though undoubtedly, this hassle lowers my opinion.
No trial necessary - come on folks, it's a measily $50. If you have a job $50 is nothing. If you are an unemployed teen just rake a yard (or shovel snow depending on where on this Earth you live). Just cough it up and give the game it's 30 days to work the magic on you. I just re subbed for 6 months... at $10 a month!
What gets me is we have threads like this and interested players will see the title and think the worse. Then you read the thread and find out its a guy who could not get the free w/e to work. <sigh>
To a lot of people it isn't just "should I buy/sub Rift or not?"
Instead it's "Is Rift worth buying/subbing over another game?"
The answer for me was no.
.. But in a good way.
