What irony? Is it more fitting to compare one game to a RL war than to compare it to ANOTHER GAME??

If it's trying to emulate war like scenarios and not a random sport, then the answer is clearly yes.

I think the CSM is a great idea that helps bring player idea's too CCP. But at the same time I am worried that somewhere down the road CSM will also bring bad idea's too CCP as well. CSM shouldn't be levitated to god like status and CCP should still get player idea's or discussions from other sources i.e eve forums.

Why not make it so that if a game is trying for open world conflict and not team based arenas, if your character dies someone comes around to your house and stabs you to death.

I mean it's not like it's reasonable for a game to stray away from the whole 5v5 arena set up without making it an exact carbon copy of what happens in real life war now it it.

It means your "war senario" just for a bigger arena sport.

Had 4 accounts in EVE online, i was mainly engaged in mining and production while i leveled up my characters pvp abilities (which takes a LONG time). With the introduction of the latest patch, i would suddenly lose hulks with zero chance of survival when a system would be invaded.  Yes i often afk mined ice(not like its interesting enough to watch the screen in anticipation). Now not only do you have to put up with ganking scum takign out the players who are the industrial base of the game, but also npc's doing the same. Had enough, cancelled all accounts.

Had corps war dec me with no good members in them, then stalk me down while mining, then hugely skilled pvp players would suddenly get invited into the corp, and gank me. So even though i had scouts watching out for them, there wasnt much i could do, because 1 minute they were neutral, next minute they were a threat.  These were dummy merc corps. The only reason they attacked me was because they were hiured by people i was underselling on the market.

Been around for a few years in EVE, because i hadnt pvp'd much and wasnt known by many big corps they were all too paranoid to invite me, so couldnt pvp anyway because no one would have me even though i had huge skill points. Oh well, next game....

Yeh i know its a harsh game, but if i have no chance to survive in these circumstances and i cant get into a corp because everyone is so completely paranoid about people because of the nature of the game, then its not worth my time....

Your sport arena is the just much larger and with no real penalty except a loss means getting a new jersy (ship) out of the locker and going back out to the arena field.  In a war senario you are dead or an asset is loss it is loss and out of the senario.  To say that Eve is like real war is silly...it is more like the NFL with different teams playing each other sometimes teams attacking people in the locker rooms or on the sidelines.

People lose 'assets' in EVE all the time. Permadeath is not the be all and end all defining feature that makes for a war simulator in a game.

People are not saying EVE is like real war, they are saying it more closely represents a non uniform, open world conflict in which team balance vs opponents and restricted and agreed upon venues are not a factor (like a war).

How exactly do solo pirates ganking miners fall into that NFL analogy again?

The fact of the matter is that people looking for an 'e-sport' game should look at LoL or fps type games and not EVE, so bemoaning not having 'equal numbers' is pointless.

i want "war arena" in eve... :( 5v5 or something like that.. leaderboards.. can be done as simulation from capitains deck... so no real ship destruction.. but fun in practice how to fight and make your self better.. i dont know how for older players but for many new and peaople inside empire can be this very welcome... i love sandbox but i want some instant action aswell.. and in if is not instant acction.. and this is why dont hawe more players :( (its only my opinion)

"War Arena" is held once a year...it's called Alliance Tournament. Pre determined amount of ships, size restrictions, EWar predetermined...closed amount of space...etc. I personally find the AT entertaining to watch, it is in no way indicative of actual engagements. If your alliance wins the AT, that in no way says you are L33t PvPer's at all.

It is a CCP run and sanctioned event. What's great is it is still subject the players, not just in the actual fighting, but the politics. I personally have witnessed teams field disco fits, fully intending to lose, b/c they bet 7 bil that they would. Meta game stuff is why EvE is legendary, not mining, not trading, not even the PvP.

It is why people read the CAOD, it's why we log in to see the latest gossip. If you don't like it, that's okay. I don't like all of it either, and sometimes you are adversely effected by it..like when BoB fell...that was the beginning of the end of an old alliance of mine...it was a trickle down effect.

Solo, uneven, stacked...all of these are terms that people use to try and explain why they lost. If you lose your ship, you either weren't fitted to counter what hit you, you got ambushed, or you didn't prepare properly. It doesn't matter what terms you want to use to reference it. Understanding WHY you lost is much, much more important. If you can't handle it, self evaluate, or listen to team members..your stay in EvE will be short and painful.

Playing: BF4/BF:Hardline, Subnautica 7 days to die
    Hiatus: EvE
    Waiting on: World of Darkness(sigh)
