Grenades and Projectiles

 I just posted this on the official forums as well. But I am curious of the insight of this community as well.

  Not sure if this has been discussed yet, if it is in another thread I apologize. I am curious to see how they are going to handle abilities that are related to grenades and projectiles. I think some of the challenge of having a class like the trooper would be having a limited amount of explosives with you, having to conserve them and decide where it is appropriate to use them.

Where a game like WoW now has no limit on ammo for the hunter class, I would like to see a system where we have to make decisions as to what to bring for a flashpoint or for questing. And not having an ability we trained into have just a cooldown but we have unlimited sticky grenades.



Any thoughts or insights?

    I remember seeing a video somewhere that showed a trooper using a grenade move that looked like it was on a timer, although I can imagine that everyone would have access to explosives to some degree, as a counter to the cover system.

    well troopers have an ammo system that their abilities are tied to which i think applies to grenades that you throw as well.  so if you used up you ammo and didnt reload, then you can't use it.  now this won't mean you need to carry ammo around like arrows in other games.  i look at it more like one of those shooter arcade games with the gun that you have to keep reloading, but in this case the normal attack doesn't use up ammo, just special attacks do.

     

    for the bounty hunter its called a heat system where the more gadgets you use, the more heat you build up until you cant use anymore until you vent the heat to reduce it.

    If there are things like grenades, Im sure they will just be an ability that brings up an area of effect maker on the ground for where you want to throw it and where it will do its damage and would just be on a cool down. 

    Limited ammo seems to be a dissapearing concept as games become more and more in favor of faster game play and less downtime/running back to town to restock.

      Oh yea I understand with the gun ammo, which, since it is more of a laser, you would not carry ammo around, but just grenades themselves for certain abilities. But I do get that that concept is fading, in my opinion though having to be conservative with things such as grenades makes planning all the more fun.

    I think in some of the HD videos the one with the flash point recently with the trooper class. It looked like the Trooper had to click on ability called "Charge" and everytime the trooper seemed to click on the ability it looked the the trooper reloaded his blaster rifle. I also noticed the little orange hash marks above your life bar go from empty to full everytime the trooper seemed to do this.

    If someone will link the video for him and HD video where you can pause and see some of the abilities these classes are using I think you'll be able to see what I'm talking about.

    I dunno about the other ranged classes, but I am diffently leaning towards the trooper class myself. I like the concept. Reloading tanking.... maybe going down the commando path and breaking out the BFG!!

     

    Edit : Heres the youtube link in hd just pause it when some of the players mouse over their ablities. If you pause it at 5:11 is when you get a first glimpse of the troopers abilities he mouses over Full auto which costs 4 ammo and Channels for 3. So it looks like you'll have to stand still to channel the full auto and use 4 ammo which appears to be the orange marks just above your health bar.
