So a friend and I are looking for a good game to get into, Ive played MO before... thought it was fun, and had a TON of potential.. but.. once u left the city the world literally only had like 3 towns and really just seemed kinda hella small... plus it got STUPIDLY dark at night out in the forest.. like retardedly dark. Im just wondering,
What attracts you guys to this game?

Nothing. I bought it, liked it for a week, then realised how shallow the devs and the game could be.

OP, when did you try it? Just trying to get a feel for whether or not night-time lighting has changed much since then or not.
Anyway, what attracts me to the game is the fact that the game is designed ground-up with certain criteria in mind. This criteria is, in the opinion of those who like the game (like myself), the foundation for good sandbox play, which is also commonly (amongst MO's target audience, anyway) considered to be the most fun MMO experience. There's just not a lot of open pvp, full loot, local banking games out there, and MO's atmosphere is pretty solid: it's fantasy (I was never a fan), but it's a darker and grittier, for lack of a better word. It's not as cartoony (most of the time) as a lot of fantasy-themed MMOs, so people like me don't get so annoyed at goddam dwarfs everywhere. (in MO, all the 'races' can be seen as different, well, races of humans, which I like). The atmosphere is probably also why so there's a pretty high RP population (not a fan of RPing either, but it's usually a good sign for a games general community to have a lot of RPers)
It's not just the forests. This is a recent screenshot I took of a Librarian standing in pitch black in his library reading a book. Very immersive!
If you read the official forums there is apparently some gama tweaking that players do on their side to make it seems lighter, but that puts people who actually leave their settings alone at a huge disadvantage. Rule of thumb is that if a huge chunk of your playerbase is working AROUND one of your "features" you should probably reconsider it...

Wow that is dark. I think most games have night time to bright but this is a bit overboard.

I remeber when I played I liked the fight system, reminded me or mount and blade and thieves were so FUN but kinda seemed like a go no where class. Which was nice, let the thieves steal at first while we get ahead hehe

Well, the new expansion is gonna make thivery "skillbased" so it wont be as much of a "grefing tool" anymore. The combat has also wastly gotten better since beta and there is no warping/decync/lag whatsoever.
I actually like the nighttime, it's really awsome when you are walking alone at night, and see thorches far away comming closer. But hey sould make night a bit brighter or atleast add "nightvision" as a trainable skill. If you ever have been om the countryside a dark couldy night you will see that real life can be even darker.
Ongoing i like the feel of a world at war where you are never safe. Polictis and war between guilds always ongoing. Even if im not apart of it it's exiting to see from the view of a "citisen". Choose your side carefully. There are alot of things i dont like about MO. Witch is why i dont play so much. But it's surley woth to cheak out. try the trial and see if you like it yourself. You sould also wait and see the comming free "expansion" this month and see how that turns out.
But dont listen to the haters. If this game is not for you there are always tons of other games to cheak out. Only this site has a couple of hundres. But there is defenetly something that draws my attention to this game. Uniqe in alot of aspects - good and bad. To bad it seems to draw the attention of the "haters" to.

Perfect Kastrix and Funkmasta! Thats exactly what im looking for... TBH im in a unique life position where ive come to admit my love for MMO's. Im no stranger to the broken ones, Shadowbane, Darkfall... Hellbreath lol. Ive always tried somthing different. If anyone else has a WHY they PLAY Mortal online id love to hear it and im sure the noobs would to.
btw how does archery compare in pvp??? Ive always made the str8 melee guys while i be pvp viable doing that in MO? focusnig on archery instead of magic
