Good place to be while waiting for GW2

Just tried the free trail event weekend,  thanks mmorpg for the key.

While I was disappointed it only allowed me to get to lvl 15; I did see enough of the PVE to become addicted.

I like how it feels like a mixture of Neverwinters Nights and Guildwars. No grind, lots of lore, you have to engage brain when taking on groups of mobs and an incredible number of things to do. Community is quiet on my server but good fun when they get talking.

The rifts come in easy and hard when you solo and totally hyper when in a raid group.

I’m only level 21 and hope this fun keeps up in the higher levels.

I'm averaging 6hrs a day in play time, have reached lv 39, and keep having more and more fun. Just yesterday I went from some rather meh questing and ore gathering ...to all of a sudden I was smack dab in the middle of a zone wide invasion of undead. A dozen Rifts opened up all at once, drums and trumpets started blaring, npcs begin running about and I found myself in a public group of about 20 people ( including several guildmates ) running around, tackling Rifts and invasions..one after the other, for about an hour straight.

I ended up with half a level's worth of xp and a ton of loot.

Good times and it keeps getting better !

I really hope you enjoy it, and I really hope RIft does well over all. It's a very well polished game...

I played through several stages of the Rift Beta and for my personal tastes it was way to similar to another game which I played obsessively for over 6 long years and swore I'd never go back to *cough*WoW*cough*. I don't think Rift has enough similarities to GW2 for me to consider it a viable time sink or monetary sink while waiting for GW2. If you want to play Rift, play it, it's actually a decent game. If you are waiting for GW2 you're not going to find what you're looking for in Rift, and it may just frustrate you more.

I don't understand how you feel Rift has no grind. I guess it depends on your definition of grind. I straight 'ground' quests until the 30's on multiple characters, I tried a couple different builds of warrior, a battle cleric and a ranger/rogue spec and just started a mage during the beta. The quests may not be go kill 10 blackwoods (treants) but instead it's kill blackwoods till you gather 10 pieces of ash lumber, which you may also find a piece on the ground if you have the appropriate gathering skill... or it's something like sabotage 10 of the enemies trebuchets or catapults... In my opinion that's still a grind... There are plenty of quests and quest hubs as you progress, and once you make your way to the main faction city there are plenty of crafting skills to pick up and utilize. There are a few static 'dungeon' instances... I happened to have been with one of the few teams that beat the gatekeeper in deepstrike before it was nerfed during beta.

As for engaging multiple mobs being any different from other MMO's. I used the exact same tactics I would in WoW on groups of mobs in Rift. The only time it was different was when taking on roving mob groups that had broken off from a Rift event, even then it was just a matter of having a party, or waiting till the mobs encountered other npcs and join the fight. Although, I did like the 'rift' mechanic and the whole open world event thing, which is what I'm looking forward to in GW2. From what we've seen in the previews of GW2 I like the way GW2 handles open events better, but that's my opinion. I will have to wait for GW2 to experience it. Who knows maybe GW2 won't fill the void that I'm searching for in an MMO. Good luck with Rift, and have fun with it.

Jules: You know the shows on TV?
    Vincent: I don't watch TV.
Jules: Yeah, but, you are aware that there's an invention called television, and on this invention they show shows, right?
