You can't compare WoW with EQ, how you can't compare Blizzard with other game producers.
There is a whole Warcraft myth, there are books, a lot of stories, Blizzard create and give to fans artworks for free and many many other stuff.
Blizzard creates surprises at christmas, easter, 1 april etc
Remember that Blizzard canceled a game when it was near release because it wasn't so good. They aren't ghey like other producers to do everything for 1 more cent. They care about their name.
Very true, again the numbers are subjective. I did alot of crafting in FFXI and EQ and by the upper levels easily most of your work required another skill..I think where EQ2 ticked alot of crafters off was by making it require the other skills so quickly. Now the one thing that annoys me, I play an assassin, as being a rogue from EQ as well Poison is just a thing I consider a must. However instead of it being a completely seperate skill its lumped in with alchemy. I am not happy about this honestly, I hate alchemy and i further dispise the fact that I have to get all the rare alchemy books to get my poisons and compete with all the other alchemist out there...this was a stupid decision on VI.
Compare to daoc and or ffxi, and yes I agree 100%. Honestly There are aspects of the system I like and hate at the same time. Weapons and armor for example. I like that i have more choices on what i can wear based on skill, yet I hate this blatent lack of disiverfication..I can see this becoming a major problem near the end game if all the melee for example are fighting over the same gear instead of select groups. This was a problem that was seen in EQ, and I am honestly suprised to see it again...Few examples, Rubicite armor was originally removed from the game because it was too generic..So i do find myself a bit perturbed to see them repeat this.
Not millions of hackers, you are taking what i said slightly out of context. There are no more or less hackers in wow then there are in EQ2. The major difference is the severity of the hacks that have been introduced, mostly because as is a well known fact, Blizzard is not known for good security. Again perspective is key here. I consider certain types of hacks more impactful then others. I do not consider botting a major problem, as time still has to be invested not to mention its highly unreliable. Dupes I consider a major problem. Again my major beef came from the fact that these problems arose in beta ( they do in all games ) the difference was, blizzard went gold with these issues still a problem, while I know of no other mmorpg that has gone gold with an issue that easy to fix. ( easy being relative ) ....Of course I also submitted a trace on the code where the blasted memory leak is to the VI test team and they still have not fixed it...bloody idiots...So each game has its achillies heel so to speak.
Do not get me wrong, wow is a good game...I think its badly overhyped, but still a good game. The style is not for me, case and point on the actual reviews when my total came up for the reviews I was rather suprised when my Review for EQ2 turned out as a 6.8 and wow turned out at a 6.7.
Oh and uhh faith, If blizzard cared about their name they would have Delayed WoW at least another month and Fixed a couple of the glaring issues...WoW's release was nothing but blatent consumer whoring. EQ2's was too but we knew to expect that from them, I stated on other forums and to friends a while back, I dont expect EQ2 to be a decent game for at least 6 months after release...Blizzard however after all the years I supported their games, honestly just pissed me off with wow. This was the first time I felt like this company seriously did not give a crap about anything but money. They could have done much better.
Guildwars is a different type of game but Will draw a large audience from it, Guildwars is very targeted toward short attention span ADD kids...But its still a good game, heck I have very very long patience and I enjoy guildwars, especially considering I can pick it up and set it down anytime i feel like since it does not cost me per month.
Wish looks promising, I have not tried it yet..
There is plenty of competition to wow...trust me the hype will wear off in a few months and people will stop looking at it through rose colored lenses..
Guild Wars lack too many things. It is like d2 with 3d graphics and pvp ranking. IT have no crafting, not even races etc. And updates only at 6 months or even more.
No montly costs means that you will have to wait 6 months for a bug to be fixed, because ncsoft will be to busy working at their expansion.
Wish : great ideas and really bad development. I never saw a so bad combat.

I know this is an EQ2 vs WoW thread, but I had to address this since it is completely untrue. Guild Wars has streaming updates which means developers can fix bugs and give you the update while you play. I've seen this in action several times, and it's very cool. It sure beats downloading a huge patch every month or so using WoW's crappy BitTorrent client.
omg omg this fight its tuff i have to be careful ... wth it froze ?? lag ?? .... damn i died !!! ... oh well, they are uploading a patch that fix some quests texts ....
ya right, i played l2 enough to know ncoft patching abilities. and the weekly updates were always like "fixed 2 quest texts and 3 items names". Once we had to download 300 mb patch and noone knew why, nothing was changed, and there was no official note explaining why. gg ncsoft.
You are confusing PUBLISHER with DEVELOPER. Arenanet has nothing to do with Lineage 2. As for lag while getting a patch in Guild Wars, I haven't seen it. The streaming download only takes a fraction of the bandwidth. Content patches aren't downloaded until you enter the affected zone. The system works great.

You obviously have not played it..
Lineage2 = Big steaming pile of Doo
There is no lag on their streaming updates..I actually like guildwars, there are no words to express how much I utterly loathed that atrocity called Lineage 2.
Oh and the key word is..Free, you cannot expect Premium service if you are not paying premium pricing.

Oh well, sorry, i really don't care about no name companies. Funny how a no name company produce a game in 1 year and a top one produse a game in 3-4 years.
Anyway, so when i go with my party in a zone i have to wait maybe 30 minutes maybe 1 hour to i can actually play ? No everybody have T1 connections ...
Nahallac next time just write "++++ post count", no need to thanks 10 times in a thread.
Anytime you want to actually read the post before responding would be fine with me.
Lineage 2 is pay to play..no kidding really? I was referring to Guildwars, its free..you buy the game but pay no monthly fee.
Noname company? You do realize this "noname" company is primarly ex blizzard devs that handled everything from starcraft to diablo and diablo 2...play guildwars you cant help but see the similiarty. remember the weapon dropping to the ground sound in diablo? yea Identicle...this is the Same group of people..hardly no name.
I think it is polite to let the people who actually took time to share good information with me, know that I am actually reading it and taking it into consideration. It personally pisses me off when someone asks a question and I take time out of my day to answer it ..never to see or hear from them again. This is a community.
As for your "no name companies" ..they are the ones putting out these games..the developers. Publishers just fund them. I tend to care a lot more about who is developing a game as opposed to who is giving them money to develop a game. Anyone can throw money around, few can put it to good use and make a product that is worthwhile.
Yes very true. this small and starting companies try to make a game fast to earn some money. and this game will never be good. After few years they may make a decent game, but it will take a lot of work and failed projects.
ya well, i know nothing, thats why im working on gaming press.
maybe i speak this way because im tired of having to write about stupid games, about having to play poor games. I played 3 new games today, and i really didn't enjoyed it, and playing should be fun.
You need to stop talking about Guild Wars, because it's clear you don't know anything about it. At the very least, play the game before you dismiss it as crap.
As for the game only having been under development for a year, simply not true. Alpha testing began in 2002.
Neither for me. Both were complete let downs. WoW is solofest, and very anti-social. EQ2 just plain sucks. I'm not playing any. Just waiting for D&DO to come out.

I was speaking in general. And about GW, i played it at world tour. The game will be far from being completed in the release moment. Argue me after you played more than few hours. I was given an closed beta account and gave it away after few days.
Dekoth have you every though about the fact that i maybe not write in english and maybe i don't bother checking my spelling in this forums posts ?

BTW, ArenaNet its not developer and NCSoft publisher. NCSoft bought ArenaNet: http://www.arena.net/news/press/pr_11_dec_02.html
2nd BTW, I never said Guild Wars will be a bad game. It will be problably second in rankings after WoW. I just stated what bad parts GW have.
3rd BTW. In case you don't know peer to peer its the fastest transfer possible in this case. Good job Blizzard.
