    nice!

"The scope and detail of ArcheAge seems almost too good to be true, something many players learned after the disappointment of Darkfall, which promised many features that ArcheAge lays out. Do you think the game is overhyping the vast amount of features and freedom the game claims to have, or is it really a dream come true?

We are working very hard to meet the expectations.  Since MMORPG has a long lifecycle, we would like to develop and implement all the features eventually which we have mentioned.  If we do not have it all ready on our initial release, we want to continue on for generations until we implement it all.

One thing the westerners might not be familiar with is the korean game creators' culture about their work hours. When they say 'working very hard' it probably means living in the company, working over 12~14hrs a day, with minimal extra payment. (btw, It's known that XLGames provide work conditions that match international standards.)

This is why we can expect so much from AA which had about half the initial budget compared to SWTOR. (~40m USD vs 100m USD)

“Other MMOs, particularly Darkfall, have strived for the massive sandbox player-driven world that ArcheAge seems to be going for, and have failed miserably.”

darkfalls still running and being worked on after 2 years and been making profitt all the while, and while it does have its many flaws, to say it failed miserably is totally retarded.

“Darkfall, which promised many features that ArcheAge lays out.”

While archage will hopefully deliver in some areas darkfall failed, archeage still fails in some areas darkfall really delivered, such as twitch FPS combat over tab targeting auto attack combat

PS: sounds like they added teleporting afterall, that really sucks.

People need to pay more attention.

From the earliest interviews it was already establsihed that you would be able to bind to a single location to teleport back to.

    old news.

Is this game coming out in NA/EU or what?  Am I supposed to be excited for this game yet or am I supposed to just look at the Koreans playing this game longingly?  What's the deal here?

SO basically what they are saying with their list of features is thats its a lsit of what they want in game but probally wont be there at release..

So its gonna be just like all the other sandbox mmos missing lots of stuff on release but they use the age old "well its an mmo its gonna be in development forever"

I still like the sound of it but gues we will ahve to wait a few years to find out..

    Some good quotes in there:

Can you tell us more about the player-conquered continent? What degree of customizability will there be in where or how you establish towns, castles, and homesteads?

Players can obtain land, provide it to other players for housing and collect taxes in return. The land will be a part of a certain zone that will have unique resource, enabling the ruler of that land to control those resources.  Additional features like hiring NPCs as vendors will help to create a city-like atmosphere.

Guilds or groups can take someone else’s estate through castle siege.  If such take-over happens, the residents, who have lived there before the war, may be able to stay there as is or need to pay higher tax rates depending on the new lord’s decisions.

Many MMOs relying on large-combination class systems have had major balance issues. What are your plans to avoid these issues?

Those balance issues concern us as well.  We will test and balance classes constantly.  However, we don’t think that all the combinations should be equivalent.  There will be a class that is far more difficult than others
    .

    • The important and distinctive aspect of ArcheAge is that the gameplay is not just consuming developer-created contents, but being designed furthermore, with the intention for user’s emergent play to be appear.

    • We are pursuing a sandbox type of game, but also working on combining valuable lessons we’ve learned from previously released MMORPGs such as providing user-friendly guide for beginners, safe zones and contents for those players who wish it and not forcing party-play and etc.  We also think that player driven contents in end-game is what expands the lifecycle as was proven in  previously released MMORPGs have been proven.  (Look at Lineage!

Also, it looks like crafted items in general will be better than loot items, because of upgrades and enhancements on them being possible.

And that's Recall, not teleportation. There will be no teleportations in the game, only recall to a single point.

However the ways of fast travel will be relatively fast, but not a "safe method". Anyone can smack that meteor in the wagon you're travelling with.

I'm at a loss of words, you actually used darkfall's combat as a paradigm of an improved combat over the tab-target while in fact it's the epitome of clusterfuck.

NA release will eventually happen. Jake Song just wants it done perfectly.

    I would have to agree.

I was wanting to try this game but saying that they are going to have what Darkfall failed to have is a red flag to me. You would think that they would have learned from Darkfall and not say things that could be interpretted as promises before the game is released . .. . but they are just coming out and making the promises. Ouch. Lots of angry nerds inc. Watch. At least they might leave our forumfall though! heheh
