Yeah I've been through all the WoW scams etc, but I actually fell for this. I got an email addressed

I clicked the link, it asked for my information, I put it in. Then after I entered it I was told "thank you for creating an account". Boom bells went off. So I went to the rift site (clicked link from google search), then logged in. I changed my email and password and added an authenticator.
Just thought that I would share this email with the rift player community. It looked really legit lol.

Im not even playing rift and got a email like this from trionworlds go figure:P, but i never click such emails not even from games i still play.
Result is i never have problems like you have. I think emails like that they never send to you or they first make an announcement, and if not investigate first go to there forum see if others have the same email or ask forum gamemaster for advice or send email to game company.
Oops i read other topic with reply and mixed it with yours lol, my advice still is always be carefull with emails like that.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

its the most accurate wow clone... Of course they also copied obvious and dumb scum emails that take out stupid ppl
I can't believe someone would believe the url.
Anyway, for everyone: If you ever get an email like this--especially when you weren't expecting it--open a browser and go to the game's website yourself. Googling it is pretty safe as scam sites are pretty well filtered out of google and it would be an amazing feat for them to get page 1 ranking in a scam.

The URL was a dead give-a-way. As a reminder, no game company will ever ask for your account details - ever.
You guys wouldn't have this problem if you'd just remember that nice little tidbit.

It can happen when people pay no attention, that dont mean people are stupid. Why so hostile, i wonder?
I know ingame in many games, childish reactions like this whatever you say they always call you retard or stupid and never can reply in a civilized way becouse lack of social skills its sad but truth:(

This is the same reason so many wow accounts are lost.
If you are concerned at all about your account, type of the original site name yourself.
Haha I've built websites that have had scam site copies made.
A bitt off-topic, but It's kind of an honor when you get spammed with a phishing attempt of your own work.

Yeah, if your not sure about a email also go too the site through Google or somthing.
I do find it strange that rift has the same kinda of emails trying to steal your account information. Never had this issues with Lotro or EQ. That could just be my experiance though.
I have found that my internet browser (Opera) does not open phishing sites. If I get those tricky emails that look legit I can type in the site and it will not open at all.
I do get frustrated with many companies that have confusing web addresses for the accounts, this means it is harder to differentiate between the real and fake addresses. Companies should make their support address soemthing simple, like "www.<name>.com/support". A lot of support web addresses now have long drawn out and difficult tonavigate sites... this just makes phishers easier.
Note: never just click the hyperlink. Either do a google search and find the site, or type it in. Just cause it says "trion.com" doesnt mean it links to trion.com. You can often check this if your email is in a browser as it reads where it really links along the bottom of your screen.
Trion have warned numerous times that they will never send any emails asking you to enter account details and if you need to make any changes, only do it by going to the account page at:
https://rift.trionworlds.com
I don't know about the US but Codemasters have been issuing regular warnings to people to be aware of phishing scams related to the EU version of LotRO.
I never fall for these because, well, i NEVER check my email lol

Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
Game companies NEVER contact you about your information. They have it all on their end.
This is the same scam used in dozens of other mmo's.
When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
