Drop in population partly due to billing/subscription probs.

URFUBARURFUBAR Member Posts: 43

Seems RIFT is yet another MMO that is failing quite badly due to bugs in their billing/subscription process.

Many people have noticed a drop in population, especially over the last few days. This pretty much coincided with the first subscription run for founder players. Adding additional credit-cards or gametime cards all get accepted and the accoutns are flagged as active in account management, but you get a "your account is not active error 2009" when you try and login.

Error 2009 seems to be affecting many players and the lack of noise about it on the rift forums is mainly due to a secondary effect of the bug... you cannot post to the rift forums :) (convenient I suppose for Trion).

RIFT support have responded indicating they are aware of the issues but no ETA at present (they don't really work weekends so maybe we can expect an update tomorrow).

I'd assume from reports I've received on facebook from this one error alone that the drop in population over the last few days is simply people being unable to login rather than have quite the game (our guild had 15 or so members online for the big event this weekend rather than the 100 or so it normally has on a weekend...).

The good news is that the world event would likely have been MUCH worst if these affected players could in fact login and put load onto the servers lol.

I wouldn't say a "massive" drop in population, I hardly have noticed any drop in population.  I only know one person in my guild who has had billing errors, but got that resolved pretty fast from what I understand.

I've updated my post accordingly, pretty massive effect on our guild though but maybe thats just luck of the draw.

How can you notice population drops when they've had  2 free weekends in a row?  Kind of hard to estimate population drop when they allow people to get in for free.

So your saying that out of the usual 100 people online, only 15 people were online?

Your saying that 85% of your guild members have experienced billing errors.  I have a very hard time believing that, but it doesn't mean you aren't telling the truth.  It just means your guild has experienced some bad luck on an astronomical scale.

Guess it could be Karma, did your members gank alot of lowbies on a PvP server or something?

as I said, it was based on our guilds numbers, but your are correct there may be other factors, including the reason I've just been sent from a guild member who stated they suffered from a different error (2005?) related to the mobile authenticator  (not  at all billing related) that stopped them from logging in.

No I never said that, but you are free to make and believe your own assumptions. I just posted the online member count difference together with one possible reason.

I don't need to "make believe" or "make assumptions".

    - You made a statement that there has been a massive decrease in Rift population due to billing errors.

    - You then made a statement that instead of the 100 guldies normally on during the weekend, you only had 15.

Usually, when someone is trying to validate a point they have made, they provide related evidence.  You linked the drop in your guild member participation to billing errors when you used it as supporting evidence.

Funny how about 2 am today i got three new members in my guild and ran into at least 30 people in one area doing rift raids. And it seems the Troll ran into a Troll-slayer, so it seems this crisis is averted

I'm one of those who hasn't been able to login for the past 2 weeks now. In our guild I think there are at least 4 players having some kind of billing problem.

So far after two weeks of mailing and calling trion worlds customer support they have not even once said they're experiencing any problems. Instead they have been trying to find desperately what I'm doing wrong but time after time I've proved them I've done everything right. If you have any links for more information about this issue, I'd like to check them out, please.

The server I play on is normally only at medium population, but I still never lack enough people to complete zone events or filling groups for t1s. Population is fine IMO.
