PS, funny now that all servers are showing medium... even the ones that were medium during primetime. That 'medium' tag sure works well for them! Do they even have a low tag anymore?
When I see Low/Medium/High populations for servers in mmo, this is what my mind processes:
Low - Make a toon on this server. Pretty please? NEED MOAR CHARS TO ALLEVIATE DUNGEON/WF QUEUES!
Medium - Healthy population without commiting to an extreme title.
High - Roll elsewhere, our servers can't handle this crap right now.
lol, that's how mine used to work too...
Unfortunately after Warhammer, AOC and now Rift... it's more like:
Low - she's flatlining, we need 100cc's of... something, stat!
Medium - could be almost flatlining, could be viable. Who the hell knows!
And like I said, they aren't fictional, they provide evidence - evidence which can be replicated easily with a little work on your part. There's also plenty of threads on the official forums (and here) asking for server merges - funny that!
Point remains, whether you are willing to take your head out of the sand or not.

Please, at least provide with some links if anything like this needs to be taken half seriously. Right now we have one forum guy claiming something based on "evidence" (which can't be even that since noone has real data on the servers besides Trion) and we have no link or anything, even on the speculations of that other guy mentioned on the other forum.
I'm sorry to be a sceptic, but a friend of a friend of a friend of mine said something, so that must be true seems a really broken line for basing any serious argument.
Medium pop is 300 -> 1000 players from memory. Do you think 300 players is healthy? I don't. Hell, I was on a high pop server when I quit and was still waiting for 1hr plus for WF's, and spent most of my time looking for PVP instead of actually participating in it.
Free play weekends FTW.
Whose memory I wonder? Making up numbers to back up claims is an interesting tactic. We know you hate the game, it has its flaws, you don't need to post inaccuracies though.

I wish Trion would just release some fucking numbers already so we can stop these threads.
But then the "I was right" threads would start. But the sooner we get through those, the better.
amen to that
Since they haven't even released total subscription numbers, don't expect to see this kind of detail like population ranges between low/medium/high, especially since they can change them at any time and for valid reasons (besides marketing, they can change them if they actually want to throttle server population).
I'm more interested about details on the open world PvP updates. The other PvP updates were definitely in the right direction.

But I guess if people want to talk trash about a game and the only thing left are fictional numbers ... the game most not be doing that bad.

Just in case you're actually serious and not trolling me ...
I don't care about Trion, the company. I play Rift, I like it for now. Emphasis on the "for now" bit. When something else comes up, like SW:TOR or GW2 or Tera or Archeage, I will try them too. I will move on to them if I find them to be more fun than Rift as I moved on from other games that preceeded Rift.
As for the rest, I hope you're not implying that I'm a shill. I would sure hope that I would be paid instead of paying for all the games I played and commented positively in these forums, but alas, this is not the case. I have a regular job for now (which provides free internet), but I will need to check the game in the evening because I can't obviously play from the workplace. I'm sorry for your monetary issues (if they are actually real), but I can't provide a solution.
Even the all mighty WoW didnt have any raids or anything at luanch MC came much later
Wrong. WoW had both MC and Onyxia at launch. First kills in both instances happened in January 2005, less than 2 months after release (leveling and gearing up for raids back then was WAY much longer).

Now comes the odd part: everywhere people complain about finding groups on medium servers... The answer is simple: a medium server has an average of 600 to 700 people playing and this simply is not enough to "feed" dungeons to 300/350 players per faction.
The second odd part: War had the same engine as Rift and War died due to population problems.
It is clear that Trion knew the limits of those server caps, so they designed a much more open and scalable game (Rift) and used a small world so servers still can function with pops as low as 400 on each side.
The rifts are not the problem, as they scale, but dungeons are a huge problem, just read the players comments.
Trion already mentioned they would introduce a cross server dungeon finder to solve the problem.
The compnay is not very transparent (to say the least) and when you don't talk you don't communicate on very important matters with your players.
I don't see much "expansion" with this kind of system. If they add to the content in any form, the players will be only spread thinner.
If you don't want to believe all the obvious signs, I couldn't care less. You may think that every Rift server has masses and tons of players and has bigger population caps than any other MMO. I don't care: enjoy. I just pointed out some very obvious things and why they happened.
As for Trion saying that more people are playing Rift than at launch: http://www.xfire.com/games/rft/RIFT/ shows a decline of more than 30% since launch, despite giving free access during 2 X 4 days to anyone who wants to type in a free request on the web.
The game started to offer "free to play" a mere 4 weeks after the EU launch, I think that says something about it.
I'm on a server that is listed as medium, but I suppose it must be on the upper medium bit, if the calculations made by those people are anywhere close to the truth.
The company is not transparent? Are you serious? Name me another company with the level of communication towards its playerbase, both when things run smoothly and when they don't.
The player decline is understandable for any MMO launching. The haters proclaimed a massive exodus and the game going free to play, which hasn't happened. At least, not yet.
As for the trials, they seem to have worked for Trion so far. If you remember the game history, all of the positive feedback came from world of mouth from the very succesful beta tests. Even (and I'm sure you're right) if the population is declining rapidly due to whatever reason, wouldn't a strategy that worked before work again in the game's favor? Why not use it then as soon as possible. Trion obviously never feared showcasing their game, I don't see why they should be shy of doing trials. And to wrap it up, if you read these forums, there were various people condemning Trion for hiding their game by not offering trials a while back. When you absolutely want to dislike a game, there is no way you want find a reason to do it.
No it is not: no sales figures, no subscription numbers, no server cap numbers (all being given by former companies).
No wonder people ask questions when something appears to be not accessable on high populated servers.
I think that a 33% drop in 6 weeks is massive, considering the game is free to play during 2 weekends already.
I'm really interested to hear the name of that company that gave the data you mentioned a month after game launch.
As for the retention and the decline, I would say that Rift is following Aion's decline trend. They are not crashing and burning like AoC and WAR in their first months, they are not a massive success like WoW and it's way too early to know if they are a long time contender like EVE. So depending on how responsive they are with content, they will either stabilise somewhere that I would consider good (because I consider EQ2 numbers good) or follow Aion's numbers, which still make it a worthwhile P2P game.

And I am afraid you didnt read the rest of the thread you linked to or hoped no one would have read or know better, where these "numbers" have been debunked as mere minimal approximations of the real numbers with an error margin above 50%. Which is happily ignored for the sake of argument and make the numbers appear "low by evidence" while the "evidence" actually didnt proof anything of that sort.
Which posts? you cannot just dismiss my post without proof that he was infact debunked. So line them up and we can then discuss the validity of the evidence to suggest his numbers are wrong.

Where? I just read it all, can't see anyone debunking it, quite the opposite actually. And this is just one thread of MANY.
And even if the margin was 50%, you think ~450 players is healthy, or justifies a 'medium' tag? Hell, do a search on the official forums for 'server merge' and 'server transfer' and then do a simple browse of the forums for 'my server is dead' or '6 hour wait for WF' threads. Notice a trend? Hmm...
No, I'm not saying the game is shedding subs like AOC or WAR, but the decline is clearly noticable (even with free weekends) and will only get worse (see: lack of endgame, poor pvp). And I'm willing to bet when the merges do happen, the servers requiring merging will still show 'medium' - funny that.

That game informer article was ridiculous, the author had an obvious axe to grind and obviously barely played Rift itself.
