LF a game with combat like Mabinogi.

Mabinogi has a pretty cool combat system, but the progression is aggrivating. Its either getting to level 60, and then waiting around for two more weeks, or spending 10 bucks a week to rebirth. Is there anything with combat like mabinogi without the rebirth mechanic? It doesn't have to have to same skill system, just combat on the whole.

I do like mabinogi, but I just dont have the money to devote to buying character cards weekly to progress in the game.

There's Vindictus aka Mabinogi Heroes. Still containing the core combat system as mabinogi but with more action. Characters wont age, but i think you need to pay for certain dungeon.

Megaten is very much worth trying, but lacks the population that Mabi has.

~On character cards, though, you don't need to buy them to rebirth. I haven't played in a long time, it just sits there with my characters getting AP and I rebirth them for free every 8 weeks or so, when they hit 20.

    Thanks GTwander

Yeah I realize. It's just that after about 3 years playing mabi I end up getting to level 60 (where the experience curve increases) and then I have to wait around from 17 to 20 for a rebirth. Its just annoying. If anything I'll try megaten in the time between my characters rebirths.

Mabinogi has novelty on its side, and variety, but it's neither a beautiful game nor a particularly compelling one. Its unusual combat deserves praise for relying more on player intuition and skill than invisible dice rolls, but at heart it's all about the grind, whether you're milking cows, trying to make yourself a hat or just chipping away at the story quests. It's worth remembering that it's essentially free, though, and doesn't cripple players for declining its premium services - a fact that its very young and enthusiastic base of dedicated players seems to really appreciate.
