I haven't read much on the game, so before I read anything I have 2 questions I need answered:
1. Is it action based combat (walking up to an enemy and hacking and slashing them, instead of auto-attacking. I prefer action based)?
2. Is it open-world? Rather than how in the first one is where you go into a town, see people, but have to be in a party to see anyone outside.

Common questions realy when people dont keep up with this game. Should look more into it bro GW2 realy has like 90% of the things people have been wanting in a mmo.. +more
There is plenty of info about the game so far...even videos of a demo you can check by looking for it at oficial pages or just google
If you want to learn a lot more from it i suggest you check this thread in this site where they talk about everything we know so far from GW2 http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/287180/page/1
A quick answer to you questions:
Yes it´s a big open world and combat is action based
Action based combat can mean many things, but you'll have to actively press skills to attack. You can make any skill an auto-attack if you want to, although this is turned off by default.
The world is both persistent and instanced. The majority of your personal story is instanced while dynamic events all take place in a persistent world. The persistent world is divided into zones, so you will see quite a few portals and loading screens.
But there is instances like your home instance where you have to invite players to live there, where its only you that have a house and those you invite to live with you, atleast that what i heard.
So there will still be some instanced places, but i think you be happy to have them
I take it those are his standards. Understandable questions then. He wants to know the answers to those two before reading up on the game and getting his hopes up, only for it all to come crashing down. The answer to both questions are yes. Read on.
