I wrote a while back when I was playing about how I feel the gaming for me is made up of moments. The first kill or the most spectacular sunset. The longest fight. So on and so forth.
In Rift I had another gaming moment. I had started doing expert dungeons and pretty much our guild has farm status on Iron Tomb and Lantern Hook. We had not succeeded in King's Breach until last night. We kept getting stuck at the Manticor fight. Well....last night we tried new strategies for them and were successful to the end and can now farm status Kings Breach.
The "moment" happened in the last fight of the expert run with a boss called Konstantin.
As we entered a hole in the ground close to the previous boss my eyes lit up. I had never seen such wonderful artistic work andattention to detail in any MMO. The room was strait out of an Indiana Jones movie. Shiny gold everywhere. The boss was equally impressive. He was in an over the top full plate from head to toe and looked hungry for fresh kills. Before we engaged him I noticed there were circular patterns on the ground and small holes on the floor and every wall. As we began the fight the floors and walls came to life with momentary puffs of smoke followed by sharp spikes. These seemed to be on a very fast rotation and our group got into the rythm and finally took out the boss. I tip my hat to Trion and it's artists and encounter designers. This was a fight that will stay in my gaming memory.

Gratz! That is indeed a great feeling
My first great moment in Rift, apart from the great scenery, was when I was trying to fight off an invasion from a water Rift, several of us had battled our way across the zone defeating the invasion groups, until we finally got to the boss group. Fighting across the zone was good fun, but when we met the boss we just didn't have the firepower to take him down, his health wasn't moving and we losing mana fast, suddenly several other players turned up, mainly warriors, running into the fight and the bosses' health bar started to move, but he was still tough. Then a few more players piled in from out of nowhere and the boss started going down, the tide was turned. It was touch and go at first but a great fight through cooperation. I know it's not exclusive to Rift, but it certainly made me see the game in a favourable way.
Its this stuff that makes me want to play Rift, and this is the amazing things I remembered from beta, but the lack of sq mileage covering the world, and what I *hear* about the lack of content keep me away. Excited for when patches 1.2 and on come out, may try this in July or August.
Yeah, that Konstantin fight also impressed me on my first time there.
A beautifull room with very strange small holes everywhere got me thinking, "whats going on here". That was answered as soon as the fight started, spikes popping everywhere with nothing but a quick spray of vapor before they come out.
When we mastered it and killed him I thought: "Damn, we really deserve this loot" hehe, great fight.
I must admit it is much easier now, but offcourse thats because we know the fight and are already prepared for whats to come, but the first time simply felt epic
Great story! Thanks for sharing.
I have lots of " moments" in Rift. I have at least one " minor moment" in every play session.
I have done almost every expert and I can tell you that the Konstantin fight for me is the most fun I've had in a long time. It's not just challenging, but damn fun. Honestly, there isn't one person I've run with that didn't exclaim how much they love that fight. I really hope everyone sends feedback about that Boss. Trion needs MANY more bosses like him.
RD is still my favorite dungeon. I think it's absolutely beautiful.
