Anyone else read this and think "What in hell is SOE thinking?" Now, I'll admit I've not had the chance to play EQII yet (I have played EQ), but for christ's sake...have they not learned from their mistakes? I mean, this is basically an expansion pack being published, letting you whet your tastes on the new content, and if you like it, pay for the rest. How many times do we have to say it? "Too many expansions screwed up the first!" And now they decide to pull this BS. First, an expansion pack shortly after release, and, from how I read the article, one that shouldn't have to be payed for. It's more like a content update.
Well, there's my rant. Can't help it. I loved EQ until it was overcome by expansions...
Anyone else have anything to say about this?
*Edit* Sorry, didn't realize the thread 'EQII Article' was about this as well...

EQII had more expansion that the sims and they are both surviving games, therefore games with many expansions can survive. SOE has learned and they are adding content CoHs style with new places to go and new skills.

Lets look at no xpacs v.s. allot.
AnarchyOnline, 2 expansions, dead and dieing game.
Everquest 1, More Expansions then I can shake a stick at and still has 15% market share and their new game has clost to 6% market share while AnarchyOnline is struggeling for it's 1.5%.
What have we learned? Make expansions and make them good and make them often.
AO is only dying because funcom decided they want to act like big shots and did the same thing that soe is doing (1/6/05 patch), cept they didnt have tons of rabid fanbois of prior games to draw upon...AO was by far the best of second gen MMO (UO stands alone as first gen, 2d top down isometric)
