Originally posted by Jodokai Come on people think a little bit here. Didn't we just get a FREE update with 2 new dungeouns and a butt ton of new quests? All that is still going to happen. What they are saying is that ON TOP OF all the free stuff (not really free but included in monthly subscription) they will be adding additional content. ON TOP of everything else. If SOE didn't do this, this game would be exactly like every other MMO out there. They add some new things with every few ptaches. With this, they add new stuff every few patches PLUS for an extra 5 bucks you get MORE stuff to do. That doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.
Oh yeah good reasoning buddy.....NOT!
Almost every game puts out more a mounth then SOE....for instance a game that i play all the time Asherons Call. They put out at least 3-4 new quests/items every mounth, they change the settings, the armors, the quests, the monsters, the npcs, every mounth......i played EQ2 and EQ and i didnt really like them.....my friend plays them both.
And whats with Free Updates? They make you pay for chars, which half the comm will do, they have new exp packs that come out almost 3 times a year, which half the comm will buy, and you say a free update is good??? How do you know more will come???? Do you work for SOE?????
I just think that EQ 2 scams people. You might like how they come out with mass exp packs but personally i think they sould just give it to you free. I calculated it on a previous post. At least 250 dollars a year out of every player that buys the packs will go to SOE. If they gave free chars, more updates and cut it down to one exp pack a year. The game would be about 170 a year. Big difference in some peoples minds and personally id join the game if that happened, but considering it wont i dont give a darn.

YES good point you do have to pay for quality. But that should go to the mounthly fees. I dont think its right they sell exp packs all the time. Some people like that but I belive they will make alot more money if they GIVE more then SELL more. Maby give half the content in the monthly updates and the otherhalf packed in one pack they give out every 1 1/2 years.
I can't believe I'm going to respond to this, but I can't let you go on with your delusions:
EQ2 JUST HAD AN UPDATE WITH 2 NEW ZONES AND DOZENS OF NEW QUESTS. The article even said these would continue. No I don't work for them, I'm just intelligent enough to know how to read THE WHOLE article.
You get 4 characters for free. IF you want to sign up and play EQ1 also, they only charge you an extra $6 instead of the 9 or 10 it normally costs and they give you an additional 4 character slots.
Right, you figured it out, and I'm sure you know exactly how much all the employees makes and extactly what it costs for marketing, distribution and everything else right?
You are paying more because Sony is putting out expansion packs faster. They are adding content faster, and it's all optional content, you can contiue playing it without everything else. It's only people feeling like they will be left out that feel like they HAVE to buy the new stuff.
I can't beleive how people are viewing this so negatively. You are getting EVERYTHING you would get in every other MMO with the updates. The only thing that is going to be differnt is there will be more content that you have the option to buy.

I hate to break it to ya, but while this game is not as simple as WoW, it is still pretty damn simple none the less. this game hands everything to u on a platter. it forces u into a linear class advancement system. grouped mobs that wont pull aggro from other nearby mobs, locked encounters, giving u each skill every lvl instead of having to go out and earn it or learn it...oh yeah and no PvP at all, not even dueling. i really think they didnt add PvP because then it would become very clear that skill or class has nothing to do with being good, just your gear and lvl.
i really wanted to love this game but when it comes down to it EQ2 is about as deep and compelling as an Ashley Simpson song and every other main stream pop crap on the radio.
sooner or later most of you will see the light...i completely understand how obsessed u are with EQ2, if this is your first MMO experience. we are all very attached to our firsts...as i was with EQ1 about 6 years ago. i played it pretty hardcore for 3 years.
but one day it will hit u....why am i grinding to lvl 50? just so i can be better than someone else? once u actually get to the top, the view isnt all its cracked up to be when u realize that everyone else will see it someday as well. just because u got their first doesnt make u better.
dont give me crap and expect to call me chocolate once i take a sniff.

I'm forced to ask: What is the point of any MMO? I level to 50 because I have fun doing it. I don't typically grind, I just go from quest to quest, or if my guild has a role-playing thing going on I do that. Maybe that's your problem, you're so concerned about leveling that you're not having any fun.

yeah THAT was called for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I suppose anyone who spends most of their time doing one thing has their head up their ass and if they do something that you enjoy but make money off it they must be evil.
But i bet if i wrote a song about my bitches sippin on my 40 and how i like to grind them then beat'm i'd be your hero and you'd give me your money?
Initially I reacted to this "knee-jerkingly" and called the Adventure Packs gouging. While it is, at face-value, an attempt to make more money, I'd say after some thought that this is a good way to add content.
Most people feel compelled to buy the expansions. They are game-changing things that, for the most part, are the direction the game is going. If you don't get them, you will fall behind in most cases. Using EQ1 as a reference, Ruins of Kunark, Scars of Velious, etc. were enormous changes to what people were doing. If you didn't get them, you couldn't follow what others were doing.
The Adventure Packs are merely dungeons (or whatever) and are just as easily skipped as was the Firemyst Gully instance (which I never did). My gameplay hasn't suffered as a result of missing it. Neither, perhaps, will my gameplay suffer because I refused to buy an Adventure Pack that didn't appeal to me...
As far as full-blown expansions, one or two per year only seems like a lot if you stop playing a couple years and come back and need to catch up. If you are actively or semi-actively playing the whole time, they will probably be welcome changes that you will eagerly buy...
EDIT: In the end, SOE deserves to make whatever money they can on their investment. The market will decide whether they are charging too much, too often.
Lol, what a total joke. Leave it to Sony to learn new ways to gouge its customers. And now they are charging you for adding new dungeons, something that has always been free in mmorpgs in updates. Whats next, Sony starts charging for bug patches too ? Pathetic...
see..and here I was all this time thinking it was pretty much up to you to purchase(or not purchase) the pack, assuming you felt the free levels interested you. Silly me... for reading....
what's REALLY pathetic is the hysteria in the quoted post.
Don't let it bother you. The guy is one of the three top whack jobs in this forum, which, given the competition, is really saying something. It really bothers some of them here that others don't think like them. Maybe they will win some therapy.
