First of all, it's a Perfect World clone to the tee. Second of all, the newest update introduces a marriage system, the exact same as Perfect Worlds. What is this marriage system good for? Making PW Entertainment loads of cash from gullable people. Why is this game gaining so much popularity when it's probably one of the worst F2P titles out this year?
Gameplay is terrible and unresponsive, questing is dull and boring, dungeons are dull and boring, PvP tried to be innovative but failed (who wants to run around and collect orbs while trying to kill your opponent) and the cash shop will now be selling 60 dollar items to get married. Let me re-phrase that, if players for some reason want to use this new marriage feature, they must fork over at least 60 U.S. dollars. Fun!
Not only is this "update" an exact clone from PW Entertainments previous title but it's quite possibly one of the worst and most expensive features I've ever seen in any game period.
Just when I thought this game couldn't get any worse PW Entertainment stepped up to the plate and proved me wrong.
[EDIT] On a more positive note I will admit that this game has wonderful graphics and amazing artistic enviornments. Unfortunately, that's all it brings to the table.
Most people go through life pretending to be a boss. I go through life pretending I'm not.

This is the General Gaming forum eh?
Anything to make money, I guess.
Also I tought the graphics is outdated for 2011, but yeah the art direction isn't bad.
Marriage iin real life is much cheaper than 60$ if we not count with the celebration;)
but its a f2p game..what more would you expect?
Uhm the marriage system for the NA servers is still in preview mode so i dont know where you are getting the $60 price from.
A lot are so personal it's kind of...
Also lol @ the graphics complaints. It's a free mmorpg, they're designed to be run at "mid to high settings" on budget computers usually..
to be honest I sort of like this game better than perfect world.
BAsed on my taste I should hate it but I just love the bard class. It's like an 80's rockstar that was hit with the "fantasy" stick one too many times.
There is something so kitsch about it that I actually enjoy logging in for the short stints where I play.

That's not a complaint. It's just to counter his statement that the graphics is wonderful.
Lmao @ the marriage system ! You guys see that pic on their website ? Stoneman and that little tiny thing.
I hope they bring a healer with them to the bedroom that night .
And btw people, don't give these people any money . Save yourself the regret of doing so.
Believe me , you will .
What the marriage system is good for? I have nop idea, never heard about it before. But even if it doesn't give you +5 str or whatever, it could be entertaining ? That's why I play games anyway.
It's obvious you don't like Forsaken World, and thats about all I get out of the above.
I only breifly played Perfect World, and to be honest it never grabbed me. The controls were cumbersome and gameplay seemed somewhat unintuitive to me. I'd hardly call Forsaken world a clone of Perfect World, though I'll admit it does draw from Perfect World, to claim otherwise would be silly. Just the same though I think there are also a lot of improvements over Perfect World in general.
Honestly I found gameplay to be far from terrible or unresponsive. Questing is slightly lackluster, however from my personal experience in other F2P titles it could be a lot worse. Overall PVE in the game is of a rather generic nature as far as MMO's go but it does have a few twists here and there. However just because it's generic doesn't mean it's not fun to play. I've also found the world/story fairly interesting and the classes thus far seem pretty diverse and enjoyable.
I'll say one of the biggest things the game has going and to a degree against it is there is a huge amount to do when you start out. While the game's built in "wiki" helps out a bit, it certainly could benifit from a few more tutorial elements.
personal don't PVP myself so any pvp aspect is moot in my eyes. For a PVP'er the above concerns may indeed be valid but I really couldn't say. The games PVP system sounds interesting on paper but I'm dubious as to how it plays out in game.
I will say that unless all your into is PVP I think the game deserves a tad more consideration than the above poster made.
As for the marrage system, no one's forced to use it so whats the big deal? Honestly I haven't given it a second thought since it's announcment and likely never will. I agree if the cost you stated is true that is a little absured, however it's not required so again /shrug.
Thus far the cash shop hasn't been required to do anything in PVE. I don't personally like that it can give folks willing to pay a leg up with the refinement gems. This effects PVP players more so than PVE however so IMO it's a pretty minor issue in my eyes. F2P players can still upgrade and refine their gear easy enough outside of the cash shop, and I don't mean by buying from cash shop users, so I don't feel it's required to play the game on any real level. Other than that the cash shop is mostly fluff and convienece items atm.
It also warrants note that as yet I personally haven't seen a gold spammer since I started. While the games anti-gold farmer/spammer systems are a little daunting for even it's legitimate players it is refreshing to not deal with them in a F2P title.
I'd say PWE certainly didn't try and reinvent the wheel when they made Forsaken World but they did make a fairly respectable and decently enjoyable F2P title.
This game is developed by PWE. A year after PWE opened their NA branch with 'Perfect World', they changed the game entirely. End-game gear(the best obtained, and the previous methods to obtain it now disabled), was now available through a gamble-box available in the cash shop. Anyone willing to drop money into the game could easily get everything they'll ever need without any effort. They release these boxes in a form of "event", so they're only obtainable for a certain amount of time. I assume this is a business tactic to make people spend more, but it doesn't help that the "event" is every other week. Even leveling was changed drastically after introducing new 'EXP' item to the cash shop that increase your exp gain by 1200% for one hour(with a start and pause button..).
I'm not sure why players toss so much money into PWE games. In the pwi server I could bare to play for awihle, some players spent upwards of $60k usd on their characters.. for what? To be unrealistically stronger than anyone around them. To even know you can spend $60k upgrading your character in this game should be enough of a turn-off to any real gamer. I'll stick to private servers for games like this.
gullable fools.
I'm surprised anyone thought they would do anything different this time around. As per their previous titles, they release new "games", test content in them(ethersaga, genies; jade dynasty, tideborn; forsaken world, genesis), then implement it into perfect world as "expansions" if people approve. Forsaken world will be forgotten soon, just like the previous. PWE is just milking it for everything it's worth.
Well it should be pretty obvious that they are targetting a more casual type of player with there games. With all the fluff items, costumes, pets and such. The fact that you can pay to make the game easier or faster. That is simply how f2p games are. Not well suited for the highly competitive gamer that wants a more even playing field. at least in theory. MMOs don't provide much of an even playing field in general, at least when you compare people who have been in the game for different amounts of time. FW is f2p. It is what it is. I will give them one thing for how they impliment it and that is that you can play the whole game for free. Slowly, frustrating but you can do it. They don't restrict what races or classes you can be. They don't restrict what zones you can go to and they don't restrict what level you can reach. This is at least an honest free to play as compared to the f2p that we have seen coming from the west which is more of a "pay for it in parts" model rather than f2p.
But they do their very best to get you hooked on the drug. Giving out free scrolls and potions and a temp low level mount. They certainly play dirty from that perspective. But in the end, you only have yourself to blame. You only pay for what you choose to pay for.
As for FW being a clone? That is an inaccurate use of the term. Very similar yes but there are substantial differences. FW is definitly an iteration from PW. They took what worked and then made some sensible changes and improvements. Do people honestly expect a company not to reuse the parts of a previous project that worked well? That is just stupid. I think the combat is better. Snappier though it could use a few more skill at the low levels. The talent systems is improved. More like WoW. They got rid the skill points that you have to gain from killing mobs. The super big potions that you pay for also don't get automatically used, you have to use them like a regular potion though they are otherwise just the same. That I think is also an improvement. The way they did the help is actually the most impressive thing. It will list out every quest in the world that is in your level range. It will suggest where you can go to just grind for exp or where to go (which instance) to get gear. It will also tell you what events are coming up and allow you to set reminders. Best help window I have ever seen. They also have a Team building window that is essentially a dungeon finder that will build a group and send you to an instance. Put this together with the auto pathing and you have a very, very casually oriented game. This game is NOT for the competitive gamer. It is for the person who is in it for the experience of it. The person who doesn't mind being lead though the world. A bit like watching a movie but one that you participate in.
Which brings us to the whole marriage thing in game. So many people ask "what is the freakin' point?" What they seem to not realize is that not everybody plays these games for the same reason or in the same way. The person who gets into the marriage thing is in it for the experience, for the roleplaying and storytelling aspect of it. They want to vicariously live they fantasy which includes the relationship. We call most of these strange creatures, women. Of course not ever woman plays that way and there is even some men who do play this way. But this is really an attempt to appeal to a portion of the audience that might otherwise just go read a romance novel. This appeals to those who want to FEEL like they are in the part. This is also why there is such a strong emphasis on costuming. Lots of women want to look a certain way be that a princess or a seductive vampire or a xena warrior type. Of course you can spend a lot of money on this sort of thing which includes the whole marriage thing which seems like a whole lot of nonsense to a straight forward gamer but makes a lot of sense from the perspective of expanding the genre into a wider group that is very much into fanstasy but not so much into gaming.
Of course this is also why vampires are currently so popular with certain types of readers and it only makes sense that someone would capitalize off that popularity. Of course we are not talking about the vampire as monster idea. That is where Sony screwed up adding vamps to EQII. Those into the vampires are into the idea of them being good but not completely and them always being beautiful. People don't just play vampires because they are a cool class on their own, though they do play well in this game, they play them also because they want to get into the part.
Finally also put this together with the whole high renaissance with a fantasy flair to the look and feel of the clothing and architecture which, thanks to Anne Rice has become an integral part of vampire fantasy and you have a very complete picture of why they created this world they way they did. This is fantasy set at the height of western artistic culture. This is a title targeted very clearly at the west not just an eastern game reworked for another audience. Even the game design is more in line with western titles. This is going to be a stupidly popular f2p game. If they work it well, it will probably be bigger than PW in the west. It is not going to take down the big p2p games either existing or upcoming but then f2p targets a different audience, even if there is some overlap.
Remember that this gaming genre does have its roots in RolePlaying. It has just taken some time for these companies to figure out how to appeal to these types. Emotes, graphic smilies and fashion clothing may seem like a waste to gamers but they are not to those who are simply into fantasy.
All die, so die well.
And believe it or not, I read the entire post.
Great post and I completely agree with you.
As a point of note, I usually play 1 or 2 games "seriously" and then have a few games which I log in and do 30 minutes or an hour or "whatever".
Forsaken world has become one of those games. Something about its really kitcschy over the top world that I find strangely appealing.
And it's true, some people just don't get why others play these games. There are people in LOTRO who rarely level because they are more into being in Middel Earth than getting Uber gear.

I noticed this same thing this weekend. I didn't feel like playing Eve which is certainly a more serious thinking game. So I tried FW out and found that the "easiness" was a nice change of pace. A bit like mining while watching youtubes. It was mmo gaming on autopilot which is a fine change of pace when you are in the mood for that sort of thing.
It did, however, feel a bit like watching a chick flick.
All die, so die well.
I was really excited about Forsaken World, so when I finally got into beta (facebook competiton winner lol) I was really happy. But after a few months of the same questing and the same events it started to lose it's fun XD I mean doing the same quest every day to get exp is frustrating. What made it worse was starting on a pvp server... getting killed every time you quest ah well, maybe I'm too carebear.
Anyways! Its a beautiful looking game just not that good in the long run.. and now it seems to have got very cash shop orientated.... no surprise really, it is a Perfect World game!
