looking for a new MMorpg

I've been playing DaoC for about 2 years and a half now and I've about had it with it.. Not that I think the game has gone bad (far from it), but I just had an overdose of DaoC :-)
Now I'm looking for a new MMorpg to play.

I know most people will recommend me to play WoW now, but I absolutely refuse to play that game (for a few reasons: a) graphics are horrible. It should be called World of Walt Disney,IMHO. Would fit more b) Community will be mostly battle-net players, so I'm afraid of how fun those will be and c) It's Blizzard. I hate Blizzard. Never found any of their games to be even remotely near average.

So you understand, no matter how good the game might be, I'm a little bit too prejudiced about it to play it. :p

So my question is, any other games that are any good?

I'm mostly looking for:

a) a game with nice graphics, but even better gameplay.
b) A game which has some soloing capacities (in which I mean, one where you can still level at those times when there's not so many groups around, or when you just feel like soloing)
c) a nice community

Any advice? I'd appreciate it

I'm an old veteran of DAoC aswell from the european servers (Excalibur, Troll Warrior for guild White Rose) and I know what you mean about an overdoze ::::07::

If you remove (c) you would like Lineage 2. City of Heroes has an okay community and graphics are nice and you can solo pretty well if there are no groups to get into. I've never played any of the Everquests so I can't really comment on what they are like.

I'm a Blizzard fan (not a fanboy though) so I won't go into talking about World of Warcraft with you as you seem to have made you mind up about it already.

you just completely described lineage 2....as long as you take out the nice gameplay and nice community, but those things mean different things to different people.

    If you replace (c) with:

    c) Large amounts of farmers from Chinese and Korean sweat shop taking up all the good spawn areas to sell there adena on eBay and other adena sites.

Then you could have described Lineage 2 perfectly.

Well, from what I heard in Lineage 2 , high level chars just stroll in newbie zones and kill the level 4 characters. I first thought about Lineage 2, but when I heard that, my enthousiasm coooled of a bit (unless I hear more positive things than negative ones in the future, that is ::::02::

I refuse to even play it, actually.
For reasons stated above, which I'll repeat here.

    a) When seeing the screenshots, I found them butt-ugly. I always expect to see a teletubbie popping up on one of the screenshots, too ::::01::
    b) It's Blizzard. I hated ALL their games. So I don't see why WoW will be any different for me...

Same here, looking for something different, so going to give "Mourning" a try at end of February. Pre-ordered it.

Going to give permadeath, bloodlines, etc a chance to see what this is all about :) very crurious. Some say they should not do this, but since I have not played a game yet that has it, I will keep that opinion to myself and see how attached I become to that char and its offspring.

As for community, can only go by what I see on the official Mourning forums, like any other game, seems to be quite a mix, so actual game itself.. we shall see.

the only thing i could recommend to you is try to sign up for the dark and light beta... maybe you will like it, maybe not, but i am going to give it a chance. the graphics on it are great, i have watched a few in game videos, other than that i will be playing EQ2 (EQ2 has no pvp though, i figured you would want it, coming from DAoC). Dark and Light wil be open PvP i think, castle/town raids and stuff, if you go to thier website you can see what its all about.

Dark And Light does seem good. :-) Think I'm gonna give it a try to enter beta.

As for Everquest 2, I like it (PvP is not really a necessity for me, I wasn't really a hardcore RvRer), but I'm not to sure about continuing it, due to the lack of soloability (I enjoy a bit of soloing now and then).

I don't mind if they're animated and detailed. I just find them ugly.

The graphics are too childish too my liking. I find the way to Walt Disney like.

And as stated before: I HATE BLIZZARD ::::02::

I think how one views any portion of a game is just a persons opinion.

I personally do not like WoW's graphics. And I agree with him on his opinion. Although the animated graphics are great, the "cartoonish" feel I get does not appeal to me either.

And yes I have attempted WoW, and it is not what I want. I have tons of screenshots of my chars so that others in another game I play with could see them. Some went to WoW, some did not.

Graphics alone is not what will keep me in a game. Although if they do not sit well with me, it will keep me out of it.

As I said, it is a matter of opinion, and personal tastes.

Yeah, I understand they're respected. Personnally, I don't know why. It's all a matter of taste of course. I certainly won't look down on people who like their games. To each his own

Being the most respected doesn't mean they're the best, of course. After all, the only thing they have done more than many other developers is extensive marketing. It's just like Operating systems. We all know Windows blows, and that Linux is the best...but still (almost) all of us use Windows. Why? Everybody has it, so it's the best. Why does everybody have it? Because of megamarketing.

btw Bioware are the best ::::02::

Hell, Morrigan you can say it a lot better than I do...

I always tend to explain my point of view in a bit too extreme fashion :p

best? most respected? i personally think blizzard doesnt even hold a candle to bioware, bethesda softworks, sierra, or even electronic arts. think what you want, but your living a delusion (not saying that blizzard doesnt have ANY good games, just they arent the best or most respected in any way, shape, or form).

Well of course, not everybody like what most of people like. There always are exceptions. Nothing its normal, not every person like oposite sex, some are ghey :)

Its your problem if you don't like Blizzard. All their games were #1 for many years. WoW its #1 in rankings now, and it have a huge advantage in this rankings.

Marketing...that's what Blizzard does so good.

Why can't Bioware make a mmorpg? Now THAT would blow competition away.

And, it's not because it's rated top#1 that it is the best. It's all depend on your tastes...
Are the anti-Blizzard players wrong? Or are the Blizzard fans wrong? None of either, I'd say.

I don't like Blizzard, and I'm sticking with it (unless they could really create a game that adds something new to the gaming industry (which up till now, they haven't done. Only copied stuff from other games, then used mega-marketing campaign. Till then, I'm very wary about them).
Fot those who do like Blizzard, I'd say, have fun with their games. That's the most important part about gaming, isn't it?

Yea well, this page load damn hard for me too.

Thing is, MMORPGs right now don't need inovations. They need stuff done right. There are so many games with great ideas and features, but they fail in making them reliable and giving a good support.

Thats what Blizzard is good at, implementing good ideas and giving a good support.

Uhm, they had stuff done right...
Mostly, it's the players who f**k things up. You know the "roxxor" type of guys.
And as far as system is concerned, no game will ever beat Ultima Online, anyway...
