100 million accounts hacked according to Sony now.   Did any of you know it was this many accounts?

Dont think 30 days of PSN+ isnt enough? Stock up on all those permanent items only PSN+ members have like themes and avatars and such. ( Obviously free games while on PSN+ are not permanent )

PSN has been down for 13 days? Who knows how long SOE will be down.....

As a DCU player which is a grind for marks to get gear game, shouldn't they consider giving some amount of marks for the time you've lost out? Free time doesnt make up for no marks in that time period.

I didn't expect any marks because I know what SOE are like. but something a little more creative than "have some free time" would have been appreciated to calm the fact this thing is down and they don't know when it will go back up.

I don't understand how people can even think about playing again? when their whole identity has been stolen and out in the open!

The last thing I am thinking about right now is touching any SOE game... at all. All I am thinking about how severe the breach has been and how much of my personal, account and financial information has been stolen and is now out in the open for grabs!

If you think this kinfd of thing cant happen anywhere else your delusional.

Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"

The lawsuit is frivelous and sad. It's people looking to take adventage of a bad situation. If you're information actually gets used, and you actually lose something from the attack I could understand it, but to request compensation because you're data may have been compromized.. meh.

I had a PSN account, my information could very well have been in the information that was stolen. You know what I did. Took 30 minutes out of my day to call my bank, checked my accounts, changed a few numbers, and voila. None of the information they have taken even if it was the CC number and Security code is useful. It's all useless to them now.

Our information is under attack constantly without our knowing. There isn't anything they took that half a dozen unauthorized people don't already know about any of us.

Has there been any indication of when SOE and the various games will be back online?

Most corporate "hacks" happen the same way it happens at home. Some idiot gives out information through a phishing scam. Then the hacker has what he/she/they need to get all the goodies. Or the good ol' losing a laptop/phone with critical data on it.

If you are not taking responsibility for your own personal identity security, then you have only you to blaim for any loss resulting from its theft. SOE is not the first merchant to ever have pii stolen from them. By now you all should be able to wear your SSN and credit card numbers on your t-shirts in public as safely as hiding them in a vault.

Sometime this week, based on something I read today... maybe at IGN.

Im not sure why everyone thinks the world is like the movie hackers where u call some guard for a MAC adress and hack into the mainframe and then screw angelina jolie.

Please tell me how its possible for an external hacker to access a computer that is not hooked up to the internet. Please someone, anyone, tell me. Please

The only logical explanation is that the hack came from a vendor error.  A vendor could be considered a 3rd party that, IN THIS CASE, handles credit card and account information for billing purposes.  That is where the information was compromised.  Kinda like the company that might handle the credit card transactions and ensures that the credit cards are authentic when you sign up for EQ. That same company (vendor application) or even another vendor application might be in charge of charging your credit card when the next 30 days hits.  Another company might be in charge of ensuring your accounts are paid in full.  That is where the information was stolen.

Inside job. There were rumors of the mass layoffs 2 months prior to them being announced. If "I" heard about it 2 months ahead of time, every employee knew.

The only bank accounts that were accessed inside of SoE were out of the U.S. and they were old ones that had not gotten into the safe area with the rest of the new ones after 2007.  It was personal information not card information that got hacked from SoE, names, address, gender, hashed PWs, etc.

It was 24,000,000 SoE accounts 77,000,000 Playstation.

Don't know if anyone noticed but Sony has also offered to help people get into an identity theft program on a local level as well.  I think that is pretty nice.  They said that there would be more info on how to do it later.  :)

Um, you guys may not have noticed this, but the information stolen included names and passwords, used on the internet.  Now, say you are trying to log into PSN or an SOE game.... you enter your user name and password... how do you think that information is verified, with a Oujia board?  At some point, the database has to be connected to the same world wide web where you go for account management... unless you think someone is manually checking a database on an internal network for 100 MILLION PEOPLE every time they log on, and then allowing them to log on.

Now good database design would not include the customer information in the same table, but it was most likely kept on the same database, primarily so you could log in faster.  In retrospect, it would probably have been a good idea to have the personal inforrmation kept in another database - even if it took an extra five seconds for users to log in.

Anyone who thinks this isn't enough is nuts. I've had these things happen with credit card companies. All they do is tell you is "your information may have been compromised" and sometimes issue a new card. You don't get anything free or anything like that. This is not the first or last time mass info will be stolen.

What I want to know is what compensation SOE is giving Flying Labs Software (Pirates of the Burning Sea) as a result of all this?

You see, PotBS is not an SOE game.

PotBS is merely hosted by SOE who handle billing.  But PotBS remains an FLS game.

In fact (unless the details have changed?) FLS is a client of SOE in this regard.

IOW FLS pay SOE for this service.  A service which they have completely botched (This is just the latest screw up).

So... what will FLS get?  What will FLS do?

(FWIW - I bet probably nothing - since FLS haven't shown themselves to be exactly the brightest business sparks either and I bet the contract gives SOE an 'out clause' on this...???)

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

I know SoE said it was only accounts outside the US, but today I had a fraud alert with someone trying to charge hotel rooms on my card for 907, 674, 380, 195. Thankfully all of them were refused by Chase and they're sending me a new card. Quite coincidental to have happened soon after this. Also have my card in my posession still, so it wasn't like I lost it.

It is possible it was from a trip I had a year ago, but it was a card I never used. The timing is just too convenient for my liking. Also helped that the charges were made in Italy, so the bank outright refused them (have to notify them of travel plans).

I'll probably still use Sony services, but only because I watch my accounts and activity like a hawk!

I think all of the multiple billion dollar class action lawsuits should compensate enough. If Sony is still around after all this, you can go back to enjoying your online game heh.

It is more than enough considering they don't owe us $h!t.  We are going to get some kind of free content download and free psn for a month (that is debateable but atleast those of you who was curious about it but didn't want to buy it get to try it out for a month) plus whatever else they said they was going to give us.

My prediction:  SOE will grant all former customers that had a sub from 2007 and later with $10 worth of cash shop items in their mega-hit game, Free Realms.

On a side note, I wonder if the hackers managed to find the PreCU code laying around anywhere  image

I play EQ2 for free so giving me a month free subscription time is meaningless.

How about another double XP weekend?

  • JBullfrogJBullfrog Member Posts: 7

I mean a free month is nice I guess.

What is really at stake here is a loss of trust with all of Sony. What are they going to do to promise me this won't happen again because at this point there are some people, some where that are going to continue trying to make it happen.  The more security they add, the more of a challenge it is for this people. I feel it's just a game for them and they just got to the next level.

Any game of my choice up to 30$ would probably be neccessary before I start using PSN again.

They should give station access to all accounts that had information stolen. Active or non -active accounts.

3-5 years of credit monitoring, not game time. If I wanted to play their damn games, I would. I know the 30-free days means a lot to some of you, but my identity is worth a helluva lot more than $15.
