Looking for Sandbox MMO

WoWownsallWoWownsall Member Posts: 17

Hey, I'm looking for a sandbox type MMO. Something like Wurm Online, if you've played it, but without the fanboyism in the community, as well as the general clunkiness. I'm a casual gamer and want to be able to accomplish things without devoting my life to gaming. Free is definitely a good thing, but not a necessity.

I want a game that I can explore, make, break, generally just tool around with the world. A working combat system (something else Wurm lacked) would be great, but not a deal maker.

hmm...there isnt many sandbox games out that are new or very underpopulated...i've been tring to find nice crafting game and found few sandbox games....problem is you say "break" and tooling around with the world..which makes me think you only want a game like wurm...dunno if you've tried minecraft but it's like wurm...not an MMORPG though.

i can suggest few MMOs i've found over past few days, i did research on alot of them and only reason i didn't play most is skill limits..im kind of crafter person myself so but anyways

Mabinogi, seems like nice game has tons of skills...no limits (only reason im not playing is because alot of mats are gatherd in dungeons..which is kind of stupid idea...training mining shouldn't involve combat unless something is guarding the ore. being forced to run dungeons to gather i found kinda stupid but otherwise the game is free...has few cash shop items that can help you and also offers a pay method which increases bank space ect stuff like that. The combat in the game is diffrent, you kind of have to time your skills ect as there is like a "stagger" system, if your hit, you stagger.

Darkfall, played this loved it....mainly PVP game though, im only suggesting this incase you like pvp, otherwise just ignore this>< every item in game is made by players, monsters drop same stuff but has lower durability on the items, meaning it breaks alot faster. but as i said, this is mainly pvp game, can explore, but be prepared to fight or flee:P

EvE, some say the best sandbox game out currently, i agree, only downside its a game based on your ship and only that, you can't exit your ship but can dock it in stations ect (no limit on what ship you can fly as long as you have the skills and cash to pay for it). Main reason i'd recommend this is you can easly play casualy, the skills are done over time, you choose the skill you want to train and it starts, nothing else needed just make sure you know what you want to train for. The game has stupid amounts of skills, all giving diffrent benefits to your ship, corp handling, fleet mangement, production of items ect ect, list goes on. can explore, everything is player made besides few ammo types and ships ect, exploring is even a skill in this game so, this might be for you if you can handle a spaceship kind of game :o

forgot one game, is very similar to wurm only thing is i did some research and combat atm is kinda bad, not sure how but its just buggy apprently, the game is called Esyon. can play around with the world just like wurm, has skills to train ect, but, the combat as said above is kinda buggy, its pretty new game only just came out though, also its p2p only, no trials yet too.

    Darkfall

    Mortal Online

    Xsyon

    Ryzom

All worth taking a look at, though MO and Xsyon are pretty rough.

Ryzom is a very sophisticated sandbox game but noone has enough time to play it. It's player base is very small.

EVE is cool. I like to read about what's going on in that game.

Darkfall is a grindfest pvp game claiming to be a sandbox. It is not a sandbox. That's a lie!

Xsyon is a new sandbox. Everything is dependent on players. You can build roads, guild towns, shape the surface.

Dawntide is an upcoming sandbox mmorpg. People say its buggy and needs more devepoling but don't forget that there are no bug free games. Even WoW has bugs.

Xsyon isnt so  bad ya got to get into a comunity of ya want ot do anything major in the game the future updates show promise for good expansion thogh might make it a bit harder for any new folks to come onbored but thats besides the point.

If ya want a solo/server run sand box even thogh the graphics seem a bit dated I am a minecraft'er at hear so i do really suggest minecraft no sub' 15 or so buck got to use paypal.
