I agree this game is very good looking. I have an nvidia 5200 and i have everything on high and it still runs decently, with performance getting better the lower i go on the graphics scale.
Can anybody explain to me how they are getting away with such great graphics, when newer games run like crap on my vid card?
Filtering technique that looks/seems like those from console games (blur out the edges giving it a smooth/blurry) look. The graphic engine doesnt "do that much", like newer games use ragdoll & lots of other functions to the max (but the player doesnt always notice except for the slowdowns).
I hope GW doesnt go bloatware with expansions later on (craming into items & meaningless skills & call it a expansion). (Not gonna preorder, gonna wait to se how much more stuff final version has). But looks promising

What I have heard is that there will most likely be one or two expansion packs per year. When the game start off there will be one or more "chapters" of the story. Each expansion pack will add one or more new "chapters" to the game, allowing you to travel to new places, fight new enemies and advance the storyline.
Even though there will be many expansion packs, the Guild Wars website has said that you will NOT be required to update to any expansion pack to participate in any sponsored events or anything. It will be your choice to update, the only drawback being the new storyline/new places/new items from the new areas. Which is nice they don't force you to update unless you want to.
Personally I know I will, even though it costs money. Take a game like EQ2... 49.99-59.99 to buy and then approx 20 per month in fees (rounded for ease of example). That works out to about 240 dollars per year is fees, plus purchase, plus the inevitable expansion packs they will have.
Compare that to GW. 49.99 to buy (for me here in Canada), and no fees. Suppose they release 2 exp packs per year for say 50 each (that's a very high estimate). That works out to 100 per year in exp packs. Still under half the price of a fee based game.
And how will they make money with no fees? Exactly like I just showed. Supposed they only sell the exp packs for 30 dollars each. That's 60 dollars per year for 2 exp packs. If they sell 200,000 copies (again probably a mid to low range estimate) that's about 12 million (60 multiply by 200,000) dollars per year. Not including the initial purchase of the game. Sounds like they'll be doing ok to me. If I'm saving that much money, and they are making good money, I won't complain.

I think the most interesting thing is that even the original game (the first chapter) is optional. You could ignore the game until Chapter 3 came out, go "Oh! Battles on the high seas! Sounds cool" and just by that expansion. You won't need the original game. At least, that's what one interview implied.
The detail of the chars is incredible. Detail right down to the clothes move as they change stances. The only thing I don't like, is that it is too generic at this point. All chars of one profession look like each other. I've been in the thick of other toons in a city, and had a hard time picking myself out until I made it out of the group.
I expect there will be more customization of toons before release, everyone just looks too much like everyone else.

I love how GW involves strategy and skill most of all. This game is simply beautiful! The different areas/worlds are amazing! The PvP system is great! The graphics are outstanding! The storyline is mind-blowing! Overall the game just pwnz! This is the ultimate "fun" game! My only complain is that the monthly fee is a little overpriced
GW = Orgy
I swear I didn't know she was 3! -Jebuz - the baddest mofo alive!
Yep, when I first tried the game during the E34E event, I was stunned by the awesomeness of the graphics and how well it ran. It's one thing that just makes me drool.
yea i especially like the bloom effects..kinda makes my guy look like an warrior from heaven or somthing lol.and yes its amazing how i can run the game at such high settings on such a crappy comp without experiencing too many problems
I've gotten a faster cpu and 20" wide screen display since last beta weekend, to go along with my GF6800. I look forward to next time I play. The login screen looks pretty sweet so far.
yea im glad the devs put alot of effort into making sure even those with crappy PC's could play the game...i mean i wasnt exactly too pleased when i heard that 1 GB of RaM was almost mandatory to play EQ2....not like iwas going to get it in the firstplace though lol
Yeah, I tested GW on my old P3 1gig with 512 ram and old 5500 Gfx card and it worked and looked great! Of course it looks a little better with AA x4 and all GFx on HIGH, but I don't think you are at much of a loss running this on your old crusty machine either... they did a great job when they made this game!
Guild wars does look fantastic,, have only looked at the screenshots so far and the loggin screen..
did anyone find the frame rate droped at anytime during the beta trials ? if so what computer system do u have.. ?
Hopefully i will be able to get a keycode for it.. (doubt it though, so hard to get one in the u.k with out importing it,, and then its a rip off, the price is nearly twice as much as the u.s) so if any one has a spare one i would be much appreciated,,)
