They did not, stop spreading misinformation.
In fact, they denied this stupid rumor.
It's a rumor, it's stupid, but true.
Stop making damage control with lies.
They denied it, as they deny any blame for this incidedent. That does not make the fact change.

No one knows if it was true. Hackers trying to bypass PS3 security said on a forum that Sony wasn't using upgraded server software and did not have a firewall. This expert said sony monitors that forum so should have been aware of what the hackers knew.
NO ONE has said exactly how the hackers got into the PSN system. No one said if the hackers could get into SOE directly or just went through the PSN as a back door. No one knows for sure if there is a firewall in place. Most of what is "known" comes from overnight, watercooler IT experts who like to post on forums and blogs.
At the end of this we will know nothing because the servers were in California and there are no laws in the US saying you have to use a firewall or updated software. There is only a piece of paper that basically asks companies to please keep their software up to date. Had this been done in Europe/UK, the government could hold a trial and the whole 9.

Excuse the wall of text.
They didn't mention why the initial breech occured .. but it does show their response to the situation.
Cool stuff - thanks for posting that! I'm biased and would love to see every arm of Sony burn. p.s. there are type-o's in the official press release. Ironic?

NOTE:
The point is, non-updated servers and no firewall are hearsay only and NO ONE specified what servers are subject to this rumor.
Only speculations and bollocks. Most likely proven false as well.
Yeah, because all hearsay with absolutely no backup from any single other source are true.
I hope Sony gets their network online asap so you guys can go back to work.
