Rift worth my monthly mmorpg pay?

surstromingsurstroming Member UncommonPosts: 151

I haven't tried it yet, is is this game a success? is it worth playing?

PVP or PVE? my intrest would be endgame PVE,

soloing better than groupping for leveling? prefer allot of grouping, but is soloing is more rewarding?

just wanna know the deal with this game, since all the reviews I can find always takes diffrent aspects which I want.

shud I try Rift?

    Nobody but yourself.

There will always be pro and con arguements.

Try it. If you looking for long term motivation: Stop playing MMOs. If you are looking for constant changes in an MMO, then you should simply rethink and relinquish your claims. That is the way how you can almost "meditate" in an MMO when grinding. That's what "china-grinders" / chinese MMO-players do, and we never understand.

The crucial part in any MMO is endgame (if you don't know how you can enjoy leveling). And at this point Rift lacks. Leveling is fun in Rift. But you do not level infinitely ofc.

Have fun, sorry for the confusing :-)

Do you like standard Theme park MMO's which contain standard fantasy classes, charcter advancement by quest grinding, end game revolving around PVE gear grinding, battle ground style PVP, WOW style raiding (but not quite as deep), typcial pull together 3 mats and press a button crafting with no player housing and levels which stop at 50?

If so, then Rift is for you.

Sandbox loving gamers need not apply.

It has a few twists you might, the flexible talent/role system that really lets you play 4 variants of the typcial MMO arch types, cleric, mage, tank, rogue.

It also has a great public quest feature which seems to be not untilized as much as it should, probably because the rewards are inferior to those obtained from PVE raiding.

You can solo to the top exclusively with plenty of quests to spare, but there are some nice dungeons you should try to run while leveling since once you get to 50 you'll be re-running most of them in "expert"  mode (more mobs with highr HPs) so best to get some practice in early.

The developer Trion is very responsive, they practically role out a new patch daily and they hold world events on a periodic basis (jury's out on the success of the last one)

Do you like WOW, AOC, LOTRO etc and are you looking for a highly polished version of the same?  Then Rift is for you.

I hear they have added and are adding lots of interesting stuff through recent/new patches. Infact, within a few weeks, I think they're gonna roll out a content-packed patch for the endgamers. Most likely, you will probably have new content available by the time you create a character and hit endgame - plus there are lots of offers with discounted prices on Rift at some of their partner/distributor websites; pretty sweet deals, in my opinion. I say you check it out. =]

It depends on your playstyle.  For the casual paced gamer Rift is definitely worth a subscription.  It's a polished game with enough to keep a casual gamer busy.

For the hardcore crowd, it just seems like there is not enough content yet to please them.  It takes hardcore players less than 2 months to consume all the content the game has to offer.

As others have said, if you want a well made game that plays MUCH like WoW, then Rift will probably be appealing to you. If you are someone who plays WoW to max level then burns out running the same instances over and over to farm gear just to move to the next level of instances, then you will probably burn out in the same way in Rift.

Rift is an extremely high quality game compared to the other AAA games released in the last few years, unfortunately it is still a casual friendly themepark with better PQs.

Then I made the right choice.... when I looked at Rift before it's release I thought I would not be a good player for it.

I tried WoW, twice (2 years between each try). Both times I sub'd for a month after trial and both times got bored of it before my character even got into it's 30's.

I guess not buying Rift was a good choice for me. It would have been a waste of money.

Rift is an excellent game if you want to try the genre, but if Wow gets boring that fast Rift will have the same effect. The games are very similar.

My recommendation is that you wait for GW2 or TSW instead, they seem to offer a different gameplay. Maybe TOR as well depending on what you hated with Wow.

Personally I think this is a very weak and poor game and great if you an ex Wow player then it will be up your street. But I will not be wasting my money on this pile or **** after beta testing it and I feel 6 months down the line you will see the servers go very quite after peeps have realised what sort of game it is ~ nt!!

I have to agree with servedogg. Even though Rift has a great rating in my book, there just weren't enough things to keep ME playing Rift for more than a month. I also felt the PVP was not up-to-mark (mostly due to class imbalances and the general 'casual' setting of players). I also strongly feel that Rift is very well polished for a new MMO. I guess (or rather, I'm hoping) that it's lack of higher and more competitive content will be resolved soon.

NightBandit, as much as you're entitled to your own opinion and your way of play, I think you're being a little too harsh there. =p

If you accept it for what it is Rift is pretty good, it works, is stable, good quests, lots of things to do, I still love the invasions after two months, BUT I am a casual player and I enjoy to be able to log on, play with people if I want to, help people (well not the axxhats with the public group turned off of course), Rift is designed for people like me, it is fun and reasonably challenging for my playstyle. If you are a highly competitive player that plays lots of hours per week, I am not so sure Rift is something for you.

Rift IMHO is designed for people that wanted something harder and more challenging than WoW, something less grindy and with more grouping than EQ2 (leveling). It is a variant on wow/eq2 for casual players that wants something different, if you belong to the target audience you will love it, if you are a hard mode MMO gamer, this is not for you.

Nah just w8 for swtor, its gonna be better in both PvP and story interesting non-boring grindy pve

Plus bioware has brains and designs the game very well from system to system making it interesting AND balanced. Its probably gonna be on of the best new mmorpg we are going to see

This game is definitly PVE friendly and there are alot of cool things this game does that others don't. World invasions, area puzzles and a unique class system are were this game shines. It does things games have done in the past but it does them well striaght out the gate. I bought my copy online for $30 and the first month is free. Its worth a try in my opinion.
