No thank you. I want a freelancer kind of combat not a clicker in space. Combat in Eve is a snorefest.

sounds like you've never played Eve.... not sure where you got 'clicker in space' from.. not Eve certainly..image

as for freelancer..  meh.. JTLS was far superior.. image

Ehh? i played EVE for good 2 years and yes its a clicker in space. By giving example of freelancer i made it quite clear what kind of ship controls and combat i am talking about.

Yup, even though EVE is a great game, it IS a "clicker", i.e. command based movement only. I prefered the X-universe games' way of spaceship control; having the option to give commands but also offering totally realtime movement, strafing, rolling, etc.

Combat in EVE isn't a snorefest though, but only because of the risks involved, not because of the mechanics.

You can even make a single dice roll terribly exciting if your life is at stake. Or when you win a million when you roll a 6 :)

    "if the community supports it"?

I think about 99.999% of the community supports it. This is swtor's one weak point.

Eve combat is not even close to a clicker, a clicker is a hack and slash type of combat where everthing you click is handled by a die role. Eve combat is heavely strategical, the speed, angle of movement of the ships, shield, hull, repair are all those aspects of combat you must control; a clicker?... are you sure? Yes sure you have to click the buttons....

I think you don't see the point we try to make. There is a distinct difference between navigating by clicking in space to fly to that direction and giving your ship commands like "orbit at 15 km", "approach", "keep at ...", "set speed at ..." etc. and the alternative: real time control: having to push a directional button or move your mouse to fly in that direction, to make barrel rolls, to strafe, etc. But also real time weapon control: firing as long as you activate your trigger instead of giving your weapons an activation or deactivation command.

I am not saying there are no tactics involved in EVE's combat. There are quite a lot of tactics and things like speed, distance, weapon types, etc, play important roles in getting out on top in an encounter, yet ship controll IS all click and command based rather than real time, fast paced movement and control. There is a distinct difference. You can't 'joystick play' eve.

Also if you look at the way the game is designed, and what kind of design such a completed feature need it would be obvious for you that kind of thing must be designed at the start of the game, it cannot be an add on. Being able to travel freely in space would mean they pretty much have to redesign their planatery landing system, and maybe not make entire planets as they did, but rather put huge maps in a lot more planets for exemple. Being able to land in only 10/20 planets in an entire galaxie don't make sense at all. So i'm very pessimist about this. The game is just not designed for that and it is a shame, they could at least kept a door open.

If memory serves this is the type of thing the Hero engine is built for. Besides JTL was an "add-on" and proved to be quite popular among the community, some might say it was the one positive addition post launch for SWG.

Yup. Hero Engine allows for fast development/deployment of new content is one of the features marketed for the engine. Besides space can easily be added as a number of different zones and how you connect it all up can't be much of a problem. I wouldn't be so quick to say that landing on planets in your spaceship other than a cut-scene would be in though...

landing on planets isnt really an issue - getting landing permission and choosing a starport to land can be handled by orbiting stations - JTLS did this pretty well, unless your going to have combat etc.. in atmospheric conditions - which is impractical... like to see it but.. not necessary.. JTLS was extremely popular with SWG players though.. for a great many it was even the best reason to play it - not to mention the crafting that came with it - everything was player created so before you could have that nice new ship and those fancy lasers.. you had to have someone build them for you image

making the space segment more than a browser based minigame would be a huge improvement for SW:TOR.. the railshooter is one of the games biggest negatives.. fixing it could only improve things.

You really open the floodgates of opportunity here... ! image

There was lots of hate for space combat 2 seconds after they showed the first video.. and the hate has not stopped if they where going to chagne it they would have already..

I really dont understand how they thought that a MMORPG would gain anything from a single player rail line shooter.. but there we go..

Well actually it like this I think:

    1. Make 2 games: You probably won't finish either.

    2. Adding a mini-game does work as side-track to main stuff = a +

    3. Adding a pseudo-flight thing allows: 1. Adding getting a ship in your Personal Story 2. Which allows private quarters/home instance 3. Place for your companions to be ordered around as you're the captain of the ship and thematic travel mechanism ie that galaxy mini-map and amorous encounters etc... so it does tie-in with all those.

I think overall it helps tie-in with the main ground combat. I really do hope space combat is added later and it would make a lot of sense to do so..................................... so long as the game is successful.
