Everquest II not selling well.

velorzvelorz Member Posts: 11

I went looking for World of Warcraft, all I saw was dozens of copies in every store I went to. All the sales clerks told me "We can't keepw orld of warcraft in stock, but no ones buying everquest II which we expected to be our hotseller" The truth is from my perspective (and i went to every computer store in the Portland Metro Area) No ones interested in EQII kinda topped out. They flooded the market and now stores are stuck with all these copies no ones buying so they had to drop the prices.

At least in my city and state who knows about yours.

Theres been a so-so amount in the stores I've been to. The population numbers are fine. There is always people online playing so thats the main concern. I could care less if it doesn't have the most people. As long as theirs enough people on to have fun with that's what really counts.

Thanks for the update? I am missing the point I guess. All I saw next to EQ2 was Half-Life 2, about a billion copies. If that is somehow supposed to be imply that HL2 is no good then....

...well then I had better be dead.

310,000 paying accounts is selling  bad in your books????

Anyhow you said you went to look for WoW so why are you even bothered about the sales.Let SoE worry about .

For those playing they have nearly 30 servers(counting foriegn ones) which are packed from heavy to full to enjoy on .So no shortage of players.

    Hmm.

In my market Portland Oregon Everquest 2 is worth less then toilet paper, and this was originally in response to a post stating that they were dropping the price. 310,000 players is nothing world of warcraft sold that many in a day. Now i know why no one wants to play EQ2 because everyone who plays appears to be a bunch of assholes.

I would put all my money that if Everquest 2 develops PvP that a BUNCH of people would convert over from WoW.

And I hear about alot of lack of feature issues in EQ2.  Like nothing to do,  no exciting life,  and then general bugs like broken spells,  missing icons,  little unbalanced classes,  recipes missing and stuff like that.

But who knows.  All I know is that in the beta we all complained about these things,  I would of figured they would have at least fixed the missing spells,  pink icons,  and all the missing stuff on the market in the last few weeks I gave up on the beta.  I guess not.

Anyways I ordered EQ2 now that its like in the bargain bin.  I figured I already play PLanetside.  For another 10$ a month I can play EQ2.   I do like MMORPG's,  and EQ2 is brand new and has a lot of time to develop.

[daydream]  I am really crossing my fingers for PvP in the long run.  But thats my secret wish.  Hopefully in an expansion they bring out PvP zones and like outposts and a two sided war or something.  That would be pretty sweet.  With like ranks in the army and special privelages to go along with it.  Fighting over castles. [/daydream]

PvP is a big factor for me. I like the fact that if someone annoys me I can kill the, and if I annoy someone they can kill me.

Its part of my motto "an armed society is a polite society"

    Well,

I didnt bother to ask the clerks, but, from a quick glance, EQ2 seem to be doing almost as well as WoW, however WoW is winding out.

I dont expect folks that didnt buy WoW already to go buy it in the near future, EQ2 is a different story, especially for the requirements the game have of a ubah computer.  And I see a few kids that where looking at WoW and didnt take it and choose to pre-order Guild War which was in the same shelve(eh, the clerks want to sell, so putting GW beside WoW is a wise call IMO).

EQ2 collector editions dont seem to sell well however.

Anyway, I dont care, I am out of those!  RaR!

All those solo haters can died!  (dont tell me WoW love soloers, they are build like old EQ).

    I know why.
I read that SOE was hoping to get 1.5 million people playing EQ2. Because of it, every EB Games/ Gamestop is flooded with EQ2 copies.

Never read that but if its so then they have a sucky analyst.

First,it came up numerous times on the beta forum and Q&A about the high specs that virtually did not let mainstream cards to run at all and very high specs.

They kept on saying they expected this to lock out a lot of players but defended it  that as people upgrade their systems more will come in and they can keep boosting their engine for those with high end specs machine to keep the game looking upt o date.

Second,EQ series is virtually unknown outside the mmorpg scene .I know a few people who love RPG but have never played a mmorpg and only one has ever heard of EQ.

Thirdly, they need the asian market to hit anything like 1.5m.Take lineage2 generally rebelled by NA/Europe yet it has 1.5m.

Fiurthly, the decision to not add pvp .That alienates pvpers.

If you look at the mmorpg that have surpassed the million mark there are all from Asia sales -Lineage at 2.5m,L2 at 1.5m ,FFXI at about 1m.

So if you wanna hit the Asia market it has to be with a)a popular brand name Asian players know b)a mmorpg that fits their style of play.

So why they expected 1.5m I dunno.

I think the 310k paying acocunts is quite descent considering this factors

Wow, Hercules I lost what little respect I have for you after this post. First of all, you are dead wrong. EQ is NOT an unknown entity. Recall a major magazine, Time had a cover story on "evercrack" plus numerous newspaper reports on the phenomena around the same time.

And its not 310k paying accounts, its 310k units that sold. And I guarantee you half of those units bought are not paying an extra $15 a month once they found out how sucky EQ2 was.

Face it EQ2 is a complete failure. Yes SOE had their hopes up. There was even an article in a mag (game informer i believe) where they said they had their fingers crossed hoping for a big hit. Well with probably 150-200k payin customers compared to WoW 500k+ it is a failure. SOE couldnt make a decent game if GOD helped them cause they mismanage everything.

How long did you play EQ2 Admirker? Obviously it must have been a long time for you to declare EQ2 a "complete failure." I will say it one last time for all to here. If you haven't played a game for yourself, than your opinion of it means absoulutley nothing! You think half will drop out admirker? That just shows what kind of crap comes out of you. If your theory holds true thatn there will only be 150,000 people playing EQ2. Maybe you'd like to re-think that.

Time to cash your chips in Herc ... Admriker lost respect for you.  I can imagine the pain.

He's an idiot ... why do you guys continue to respond to him.

Good question Wickes. I guess sometimes I can't resist. You're right though. As much as you point out to someone that their an idiot it really doesn't matter.

That happened to me a week ago when I went to get my friend a copy.

EQII is behind the counter where the cashier is.

It's so valuable, those WoW players are resorting to steal them to prevent competition; Thus, it's behind the shelf to protect them.

    www.gamespot.com/news/2005/01/06/news_6115915.html

In the article clearly states "310,000 PAYING subscribers".Note the reviewer spent sometime with SoE staff so he did not manufacture the numbers and was most likely told by SoE and they let him quote it.

Also I doubt it counts the all access people like me whose primary username is attached to another game like in my case planetside.

And since the mass influx of xmas people (EQ2 now has no medium load server all heavy to full) are not yet paying subscribers this numbers will not be included.

So there is the proof its paying subs after free month not units. As the first month people are NOT paying subscribers. And the article is just 5 days old so its a very recent figure they are giving.

Maybe now you will love me again kriminalimage

There i s a high market for non pvp games.

    It isn't an unknown idea.

I highly doubt that is true.  Of any MMORPG EQ in America, EQ is probably the most well-known in general society.

Anyways, I think the biggest turn off, besides the intense graphic lag for anything but the best computer, is the intense hand-holding.

It's usually people arguing that there is a market for PVP games.  I guess with the uber success of WoW and the success of their PVP servers people are beginning to change their mind about PVP.  Because of the success of EQlive most games released since have been carbon copy PVE games, and left us PVPers with nothing worth playing.  Perhaps now, designers will notice the popularity of PVP in an MMORPG and finally make something worthwhile to play.  A game, no, a world with freedom where the laws are created by the people, instead of invisible barriers inputted by game designers.
