According to MSNBC.com, Sony not only had outdated security, but had been warned by Apache that the software was not up to date. Check out the video and see for yourself.

Given this information, the class-action lawsuits against Sony are virtually a slam dunk. This kind of negligence is pathetically unexceptable, and if the corporation's legal team has any sense, they'll advise a settlement. This will actually be an injustice, however. Sony owes its 100,000,000 million plus customers who are ultimately the victims in this case more than simple free game time. I hope that the people bringing the lawsuits are able to maintain funding for a full, drawn-out court battle. A company being hacked is one thing, but to have been so lax in its security efforts, and to put the personal information of their customers at such obvious risk, deserves a serious punishment, not getting off easy with an out-of-court settlement.
The only possible bright spot I could imagine in all of this is that since SOE is involved in the breach, perhaps Sony can use this to finally fire one of the most incompetent executives in the corporate universe. Yes, I mean you, John Smedley. (not that he'll ever actually see this)

The MCP also knew that he was vulnerable. And just look what happened to that guy. Sheesh!
Ouch. Things aren't looking too good for these guys.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
Bump for those without objectivity.
Was looking for another thread closed it by accident.
But yea Sony knew they didn't have their servers up to date.

Also I would like to add that Sony is trying make the hacktivist group anonymous as a scape goat. People trying to help the gamer not hurt the gamer.
Ive read it on a forum here, but Hackers and people that hack to get peronsal information need to be seperate. Including those that hack/cheat in video games.
All 3 types are completely different type of person.
There were several hacking issues in recent history.
Blizzard said: "it was your fault", NCsoft (Aion( said "it was your fault", Sony and Frogster said it was their fault.
It is easy to bash.
I really don't know what your trying to say. I posted a link as well at the TC posted a link showing that sony had been told that they did not have up to date protection against hacking.
What more else can be said about Sony not taking the percausions to protect user information?
Also I am not in support of hackers that hack to take user information. I beleive that both parties are at fault.
Obviously the people stealing credit cards are more at fault than Sony, but it was Sonyies job to sercure information to the best of its ability as possible.
Not let their servers go unupdated with no firewall.
I dont not see only John Smedly (hopefully) finally being kicked out of SOE, but you can bet the CEO's at Sony'are going to be looking for another job as well.
This whole debacle, only getting worse by the day due to more and more info being reveiled, has huge concequences for Sony as a company. Both financially as reputation wise.
This time some serious heads are going to roll in the top. They are not gonna escape their sheer mismanagement any longer and will have to take responsibilities for it!
you havent dealt with sony for very long if you think SoE HAD any reputation to stand on to begin with:D
It also looks like PSN and possibly SOE as well are likely to be down all month. This thing just gets worse and worse.

My question is, namely for the SOE customers, how long do they think people will sit on the sidelines before trying a new game?
ZOMG another thread about the same thing? Come on guys post in the old threads don't keep makling new ones over and over. And that doctor testified nothing but hearsay that was rumored on the internet do more research it said he testified as to what he read on either a blog or a forum which is pure hearsay and nothing else and not usable in a court of law. And just because a news reporter says something does not mean it is right. News reporters have always spread rumors that were not neccessarily true. Welcome to America where we have Freedom of Speech. Happens all of the time.
First off that security expert is ancient. He hasn't been relivent since 88.
You might want to read this. Then check out the facts for yourself..

Proof if your lazy. Sony was running Apache version 2.2.17, which was the latest stable version.
