Playable races I would like to see.

I think one of the most important aspects of any MMORPG is to offer as much variety as possible, and giving the player the option to pursue a certain moral destiny whether it be throughout the course of the game, or right at the beginning during your character creation is essential.

The four races which have been confirmed so far as most of you already know are Hobbits, Dwarves, Men, and Elves.  Pretty standard fare aside from the Hobbits.  While I have no qualms with the races which have been confirmed thus far I do believe that the developers should include a group of races for players more inclined towards pursuing an evil persona.  These races should include...

Orcs

Uruk-hai

Trolls

Yeah i agree. Having an onesided mmorpg is just plain bad planing. How they got support to do such a silly thing is beyond me.
I mean I can get a singel player game and do the same thing. I hope they realise what a big mistake this is and start planing an evil side. Maybe they will realise an evil exspansion like City of Heros did with evil.

Yeah I think the devs already touched on that topic stating that they wont be in release, but there is a possibility of adding them in a future update

It's a good day to beleive

Wait a sec guys, you're missing the most important race, Ents!!!!

How exciting would leveling up be if you walked, talked, had fights etc in slo-mo. Talking to trees, finding hobbits, growing moss. That would be entertainment right there.

i accually think they said it would it would be difficult to add those races because arcs are just little animals that kill things basicly. They eat, kill, sleep. They are staying so painfully true to (or they think they are) to the novels.

    pwnt

well guys u have they didnt necessarily make it all good...sure the races are good, but eac race has a class selection of good and bad classes...like elves having ranger(good class)and assasin(bad class)and they made it so the ppl of ME react differently to u depending on what class u are...the ppl of the shire problebly welcome human champions yet fear human warlords

Adding more of the "evil" races to the game would add alot to roleplaying and add some variety to the game.image

im pretty sure they said that they wouldn't include ents because of the size difference. For instance, how would a ent go into a hobbit hole.

i think good race to add would be eagles...cus eagles kick ass.if dark elves had been in the books theyd make a nice additon too

As elve, human,Dwarve,Hobbit you can choose for the good/Evil side .

By picking an Evil side armor and all that kind of stuff.

But if you can make them evil to it doesn't make sence anymore because that is not in the books or the movies so that could mess up the gameimage
  • SimshooterSimshooter Member Posts: 24

    That's not treu ,

In the books there are men/elves/dwarves Who allied the evil side.::::28::

There might have been dwarves and there definatly was men, but no elves. All the elves are good essentially. (cept mabey Maeglin)

There is "good" vs. "corrupt", in which the "corrupt" have the same traits as an "Evil" person.

There will be no Orcs, Eagles, Ents, or any other silly characters to play as.  Having these roam around is illogical.

Orcs - You should be able to play this race because they're found throughout middle-earth

Uruk-Hai - maybe and maybe not, because they were bred for a sole purpose, to bring down the free-peoples of middle-earth...

Trolls - Not possible...Why? Because Trolls can't handle the sun, if they are out in the sun THEY TURN TO STONE...Therefore dead.

Ents - Well personally, I wouldn't want to play an ent because it would take hours after hours of walking to get across fangorn :P Also not including the size difference, but ents are some of the strogest creatures in Middle-Earth. An Ent isn't going to walk up to a baby orc and hit him for 5 points of damages, hes gonna crush him into the ground...

Eagles - There aren't many eagles in Middle-Earth -- Cant finish gotta go lol

I think that Turbine is planning to pull a CoH on this one and come out with their own version of CoV in which you can play the Orcs, Uruk-hai, et al.

At least I hope so. I'll probably still play the "good side", but I'll enjoy jamming my axe's blade into the face of a nasty opposing player.

The Hobbit's trolls turned to stone, but not all trolls do that. What about the Olog-Hai?

And if they are planning on releasing expansions with evil races and pvp enabled, they better announce it! A lot of us lost our interest in the game because of the lack of them.

  • Levithian_66Levithian_66 Member Posts: 143

I was generally thinking of MOST TROLLS... I know the hobbits trolls turned to stone, but I play alot of D&D and read alot of books, and everyone of them the trolls turn to stone if sunlight hits them...

What creatures could have a more boring lifestyle than orcs or trolls? Kill, eat, kill, eat. But i don't know. Some play mmorpg's just for killing things..

To be honest I haven't really heard much about this game, But I really intend to find some info and read all I can.. So far I've found out that there will be no pvp? holy shit, what is that all about? no pvp? The hole story behind LOTR is one big war, and we can't pvp? also the 4 races revealed are all on the good side, so it's not gonna be posible to be on the bad side? sigh.. I really think we should wait and hope for the developers to come with some more info and cross or fingers and hope pvp and both sides will be included :)

Go to MEO-online.com the officail forums for LOTRO and read the dev diaries. They explain there why the did away with pvp, Because they decided that the alignment system wuold not work and if there is no alignment system then pvp would not work either, Though Floon beetle did mentin that he left a pin hole opening on the no pvp, which can be taken anyway a person wants to take it. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Plus there was so much more in the books than just one big war, there was the personal struggles of aragon in accepting his destiny, in fear that he would befall the same fate his ancestor did to the ring, frodos quest and his struggles to survive the evil of the ring. Sams undieing dedication to frodo, The list can do on, truthfully the only all out war is only in the end in the return of the king, sure there are alot of battles, but they do not constitute all out war. The book is so much deeper than hack em up and kill them. So if you were to live in middle earth the way that tolkien described it sure there would be war but it isn't the center of all. There would be love and personal struggles, Making the choices that affect you life in a resounding way. I don't see pvp as a workable aspect of LOTRO, My opinion.

As for orcs, they are warped and broken elfs from the days of Melkor, have to read the salmarillion to understand how the orcs came about and why they despise the light and only travel at night. They weren't as it has been put eat, kill, sleep creatures, they were actually very intellagent beings who were enslaved by evil and warped, they also retained there intellegaince. If later the devs decide to implament evil races i would say the orcs would be a good race for that, though the evil races in LOTR shunned the light and prefered the night. Which makes it rather hard to play cause you are restricted by there nature. Though i will admit evil men were the only ones who did not shun the day. Not to say that orcs weren't seen in the daylight and only when they were forced to be out then.

There is so much more about this game than pvp, pvp is the end all of games. Sure for many it is fun but for the majority it is a excuse to kill other players and keep them from lvling up. I may be very synical in my interpetaion of pvp, but it is based off of personal experience i have had in other games with pvp. Don't doom this game just because it is not the run of the mill pvp kill fest that so many games are.
