Do they put revenues from subs and box sales together? Cause I think they were listed separately. Subs were under licences, subscriptions or something.

In financial reports Activision Blizzard has a section where they split up revenue by platform.
One of the platforms is "Online subscriptions".
The note for the Online subscriptions platform is "Revenue from online subscriptions consists of revenue from all World of Warcraft products, including subscriptions, boxed products, expansion packs, licensing royalties, and value-added services."
wheres your source that first quarter Cata sales were LOWER than fourth quarter ?
read the May investor press release
3 games were claimed for profits --- Cata was one of them
I dont see vanilla World of Warcraft being claimed as a top 10 PC title for first quarter
For the first quarter, Activision Blizzard had three top-10 PC titles with Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft: Cataclysm™ and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty™ and Activision Publishing's Call of Duty: Black Ops.(3)
To be honest, i think its more costumers that has left WoW, Blizzards desperate, but im glad that they will release expansions faster now. I really hate that they leave WoW as it is without new content for a year while they work on their expansions.
Blizzard should start charging the Chinese a monthly subscription fee. It's not like that they are that poor. Their economy is booming and they will soon be the number one superpower of the world. Charge them more!
18-19 century - UK number one superpower
20 century - US number one superpower
21 century - China???

I am a little surprised at some of the reasons people think WoW is losing people. The one poster pointed out twice how much he disliked the way they changed the game and keep changing it. His biggest issue was the talent trees.
My son and I re-subbed and then left fairly quickly due to that very issue. We both had the very same reaction. Neither of us could stand the direction they were taking in many areas.
=Talents dumbed down so there is no way what so ever to make a character any different =
=Changed gear so redundant items make every character the same=
=narrowed even further what is acceptable in a group=
And I wish he was here because I am sick and my head is clogged so I cannot think.
I have always hated what WoW and games like it have done to MMO's as a whole. ( I blame the developers for seeing WoW and saying, oh we must do that too) But now the game has gone so far in the direction of stupid it is unplayable. I do not think so many people hate WoW alone but rather they hate the direction MMO's have taken and WoW looms so large it gets most of the venom.
I always thought WoW took away from what my imagination once saw what MMO's COULD be but I also thought in it's on right is had good points too. Now I cannot see one single reason to play this game. My brother N law and his wife just left Azeroth for the very same reasons along with a few other regarding raiding.
So you can see why I am surprised that people think it is any thing else. I would assume people are leaving because the massive changes are just insanely dumb. It was hard to take how narrow the game made your choices at times before but now it is simply shocking. You have NO choices at all.
You disc priest and mine are the same, not just a little but they are exactly the same, you may have different gear ( emphasise MAY! ) But the stats are so similar it matters not.
Having said all that I still think people are crazy to want WoW to do terrible. WoW attracts people to MMO's which is great for all of us. Plus the average player in Azeroth is not someone I want in my other games most often. I have always been amazed at how stupid the avg. player is there. Takwe the BG's...How many years has warsong gulch been around and yet we still only have 3 out of 10 players understand the premise of a capture the flag game!?!?!
I do not hate WoW as it once was although I have always stated it was sad to see what MMO's were being increasingly narrow. But now it truly is a game for those who think using your brain at all, ever, is a bad thing.
I am not making any of this up, that is 5 people who left because the changes are making the game, which already was over simplified, even more so. I did see another say he left because of lack of content. But WoW has never had content that really mattered , never saw content as a reason people liked the game as the content was, well, never interesting and do not see more of the same, or the lack thereof being the reason, though some may disagree.
also I just want to state that I have yet to play an MMO i like alot that did not make changes that killed it for me. WoW has now surpassed SWG in that regard for me.
I left WoW for the first time when they made the bg's a place to get exp. True you could turn exp off but then nobody was there to play with so in essence they forced us to gain exp in bg's.
So instead of doing what we liked, pvp'ing at a level we found most fun we were forced, funnled to an end game that is moronic, now even more so. I will never understand people who hurry to the end of an MMO as I have yet to see an end game that works. Blizzards end game baffles me. the whole raid after raid after raid and so on never ending just to get gear that enables you to...start that process all over again?
to me this points to the mindset of the people playing more then anything else. I think they have forgotten the game should be fun. I cannot not see anyone doing that and being like, "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, fun stuff"
So again I say as I post above, the game is killing itself. To me this is why people are leaving. It is not fun. I think though for some, they need a game that does the little things as well as Blizzard does in order to leave the game.
I have noticed that people have become truly addicted to playing MMo's and are driven to do so long after they stop having fun. Not saying everyone, but I have noticed this in a few people I know in RL.
I know many times people have said this game will make a dent in WoW , and then again, this other game will and so on. Those games all seem to really suck in just enough ways to make WoW look like the "real thing". |BUT! I honestly think a game like KOTOR could have this kind of impact. Not saying it will, but it has the best chance imo of any game to date.

by similar reasoning -- Blizzard stated that Cata was their best selling expansion ever
http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/company/press/pressreleases.html?101213
but that doesnt mean they had increase in subs,
the increase revenue for wow could be solely from Cata sales

In fourth quarter 2010 WoW by itself made $340 million in revenue.
