I just cant believe how everyone is hitting lvl 50 so fast... So I ask again what is wrong with me. Or what is wrong with you people? I starting to think the problem just might not be me because I'm having a blast with RIFT. Extremely challenging for me and very social game. i'm just not seeing the issues here that everyone is constantly complaining about.
What am I doing wrong?
You are just mocking around too much.
I hit lvl 20 in just 2 days playing roughly 10 hours a day (1 hour per level)
After that it gets a bit slower (because after the first couple of days I play roughly 3-4 hours), but it ain't difficult to hit lvl 50 in less than a month.
If you want a few tips on how to level fast I am willing to help.
1) Avoid doing rifts or invasions.
2) Avoid doing dungeons until you hit 50
2) Do just quests, it's always double XP (Quest reward + Mobs killing XP), it's simple maths.
4) When you do the quests make sure you finish all the quests of the hub before moving to another quest hub.
It will save you lots of time in traveling back and forth.
5) Make sure you follow precisily the super linear quest path that Trion designed for you, do not skip quest hubs (although it is genuinelly too difficult to missed them)
lol and this is exactly what a lot of people are doing and the reason why they are hating the lvling curve and game.. I mean, i have people in my guild that are already lvl 50 and they started playing in the beggening of may.. But im sure all of them can count the number of times they've picked up crafting nodes, did invasions/rifts, or dungeons with their fingers.. I can say with confidence i've experienced almost everything the ride to 50 can give you, and its taken me a good 2months to do so.. Im still 7 lvls short of 50.
Currently Playing: Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
The rifts are pretty pointless, the dungeons are ok, but why people should do those dundeons if doing quests gives you double XP?
If you don't enjoy the Rifts, don't do them.. If you think the dungeons are ok then enjoy them.. They might not give the same ammount of xp as questing but you'll get better items and drops.. A big mistake im noticing on Trions part is making the quests so boring but also makeing them the easiest way to gain XP.. It's sort of how WOW was for me, WoW's dungeons were such a snore fest but they were the quickest way to lvl.. I enjoyed WoW's quests/lore (for the most part) but i was pigeon holed into doing instances to keep up with my guild.. I eventually quit because of it.. This time with Rift i'am doing stuff as a please, regardless of reward or xp.. I prolly quest about a 1hr a day and spend the other 2 on invasions, open world pvp, warfronts, or other guild activities..

That's the right attitude, but that's your choice
Most of people are competitive and want to achieve stuff as soon as possible, hence they choose the shortcut which is always the one that gives you less pleasure but it is the most effective.
This is the failure of all developers that released MMOs after WoW, they made the shortcut even more easier, they almost invite you to take the shortcut.
Personally I didn't bought Rift, but I played all the betas.
The reason why I didn't buy it is because Trion offered a 6 lane motorway of a shortcut that it was hard for me to avoid it, even if I tried.
You managed to avoid the shortcut and chose the long way and therefore enjoy the game, I commend you.
I reached level 32 the first day of head start and 50 on the 4th day reaching lvle 50 with 3 days played. I was a little slow compared to some of my friends.
Like many said leveling in Rift is very easy taking between 50-100 hours for most people to reach max level. Crafting is even easier where one can max all 3 crafting/harvesting professions easily in one play seession.
Some tips for leveling:
1. Do not get behind the quest curve. Make sure your quests are a few levels below your level. This will allow you to fly through your quests and increase your aggro range a bit when running through zones. If you get behind do dungeons to catch up.
2. Do all the quests. Plan out your quest progression based on what and where the quests take you in the zone. You can save quite a bit of time not having to run back and forth. Having leveled a character in Alpha or beta really helps. But even if you haven't you can save yourself some time after taking a new set of quests by you looking at the map and quest locations before you run off.
3. Pick an appropriate leveling build. Rift IMO gives players the oppurtunity to make some very very bad builds. More so than any modern MMO. One can really do some extremely bad dps using a poor build. Resulting in a long painfull time killing mobs. Healing in a build is very nice and can help provide some safety for making mistakes but I prefer killing a mob as fast as possible. The faster you kill mobs the faster you level. Although Hybrid builds that offer some healing safety combined with moderate DPS works very well. You will save your self a lot of time and pain in leveling researching and designing builds for your archtype.
4. Make sure you carry drinks and potions with you. Lots of drinks. Both can save you a lot of downtime as well as the embarassment and frustration of an unneccessary death.
5. Avoid Rifts and invasions. Both IMO are a waste of time while leveling up. You will be grinding Rifts quite a lot at max level there is little to no need to grind them while leveling up except at lvl 48 where you may want to grind the Earth ones in Shimmersand to earn enough planarite to get your big planar holder.
6. Don't worry about gear until 50. You level so fast you will constantly be upgrading your gear through quests every hour or so.
7. Always keep your PvP flag unchecked on your settings. This way you will not accidently flag yourself by unintentionally attacking an opposing faction playe or by healing or rezzing a friendly flagged player. Engaging in pointless PvP can waste a ton of time for no reward.
8. Don't be afraid to group with other players or ask someone for help on a mob that may be difficult. Duoing through quests is pretty ideal and can be much faster. Plus it relieves the boredom many people find with soloing.
9. Don't waste your time harvesting or crafting. You can do both much faster when you are 50. For that matter try to avoid doing any activities that takes away from your goal of gaining expereince.
I hope this does not sound condescending. The important thing is for you to have fun and enjoy the game. Rift offers quite a bit in terms of class flexibility and min/maxing. I really think it offers a lot of fun designing somewhat unique roles. But that is simply what I enjoy. I would just focus on what you find fun. There is no reason you need to get to 50 fast to enjoy the game.

But to me, the game is badly designed
