Well, what do you say when something is stolen from someone, who stole it from someone else (karma?)? Or have we forgotten Blizz basically bit off of Warhammer for it's character designs?

Oh we all know that nothing Blizzard does with WoW is original, hasn't had a single unique feature in its entire run. But WoW isn't a very good game, and its been copied plenty of times already. I have no interest in another copy of a game that's already not good.

Because i don't have my pc with me all the time? I can play this at the airport waiting for my plane, and even ON a plane if it has wifi.

I can play this when i am in my car waiting to pick up my kid from school (yes, his school is in mountainview and we have google wifi around).

I can name a million situations when i want to play a little MMO and i don't have a PC with me.

    So?

I can't find WOW on my iphone .. this is the next best thing.

Before blizzard  (and all the other companies) put their games on the iOS, gameloft is great to fill a void. I do want to play these kind of games when I only have access to my iOS device. If Blizz won't do it, my support goes to the company who does .. and in this case it is gameloft.

Seriously, who cares if it's a clone of anything be it wow or EQ.  Afterall WOW is an EQ clone!

I agree, who cares who ripps off what from what game.......if you enjoy it play it, if not - DON'T.

WoW isn't an EQ clone really imho. WoW does/did take ideas from EQ but WoW steales it's ideas from everybody. Phanatsy books, other games, pick a media WoW has likely sampled it. WoW rips off everybody. If they are a clone they are a Frankenstien of Clones (See also Thaddius- for Frankenstien ripp off =-p).

So this company is as good at copying/stealing from others and putting it into their games as blizzard is at doing it to theirs? nice, sounds like fair play to me.

lol..if this game is as 'good' as people make it sound.. I can picture it now, kids staying up late with their phones lit up glued 'even more' to the phone.

You can't really be an avid MMO fan and only pick up and play for a few minutes here and there like the phone apps are designed for. But rather this will change with MMO games.. people will even sit there on their couch (next to their computer) and smash away at the touch screen little cancer cells of the gaming industry haha...very cheap, addicting and portable is the new vision for MMOs it would appear. I hope PCs can crank out some high-powered MMOs soon to stay true.

I do realise they want to make money and thats why they want to move onto mobile phones, but its the devolution of the MMO genre that will be needed to support this move I rail against. Consoles did not get their own MMO's, new MMO's were dumbed down to fit their lower graphics capability and control systems. Mobile games will have the same effect, new MMO's on a PC or Console will have a mobile version and that version will drag the PC/console MMO down to its level. Currently they are separate, but look how intergrated Rift is with social networks, this can only be a bad step for the MMO genre and a good step for the money men.

People are seeing this in the context of the WoW clones debate that obsesses these forums, when they should actually see it in the context of iPhone game companies, particularly gameloft, creating mobile versions of popular pc and console games. It's not part of the WoW clone debate.

On mobile MMOs, I have an iPhone and iPad and was initially excited by the prospect of playing games in the palm of my hand, but I've found the basic size of it a barrier to immersion that I like in games. For me playing an MMO is about entering a large, alternate world and I haven't felt that with any mobile game yet. Not tried O&C as yet. Maybe a game created entirely for the iPad, pushing its limits, could make me change my mind. As it is right now the iPad often just illuminates how basic the envirionments and character graphics are in these games.

Mobile mmos that imitate PC mmos eg O&C (very good job) are simplified version and you could argue dumbing down or you could argue that it being portable (wi-fi zones atm?) and cheap it compensates. All games have a time-sink component but mmos generally more so, yet if it's also a social experience, an adventure with story etc it's good entertainment? I think MMOs on small screens should innovate more within the restrictions of the platform than carbon copy as O&C does. "Should" being the operative word because that experience is as you say better on a PC. It isn't cheap and portable however which means PC mmos require that GAP in quality to rise to out-compete mobile imitations which outcompete by being cheaper, easier and lighter and possibly only marginally less quality than a lot of PC MMOs?

But rather this will change with MMO games.. people will even sit there on their couch (next to their computer) and smash away at the touch screen little cancer cells of the gaming industry haha...very cheap, addicting and portable is the new vision for MMOs it would appear. 2 Exactly. 1 But you already have "epic" +30Hrs of gameplay single player apps eg Aralon: Sword and Shadow and Galaxy On Fire 2: Valkyrie. So network connectivity and multiplayer to this is the next step for these genre to make them mmorpgs. Also these platforms are in more prevalence to younger demographic as well as developing countries compared to PCs I think is correct also. You could say it's expanding the mmo market where these will lead players to PC later?

I think what will be positive could be IF this new market bring innovations to mmorpgs. A different platform with different considerations could be very interesting eg: GDC 2011: Spacetime pontificates on pocket MMOs

Still imo only 1 or 2 interesting titles atm (O&C included), but give it longer and we might see some interesting idea.

Yes O&C is very polished and worth a look. Shadow Cities (location tag based), Runes (gesture swipes 1v1) are in development adding innovation. World of Midguard (daoc looking) like O&C will imitate pc mmos to mobiles to a high level of polish and production.

Blackstar by Spacetime Studios will be released soon: They have Humans, Mode (Androids), Scorn (Demonic humanesque aliens) & Riven (cyborg-dead-scorn) as well as plenty of aliens critters and swarms. However it will be instanced based corpg more than a mmorpg that O&C has very successfully achieved. But still very polished and hopefully very innovative.
