Brink! Why couldn't you be awesome?!

I have to say the least been avidly following this game since it's announcement. I absolutely love Bethesda (favorite developer) and Quake and Wolfenstein by the other developers were the two shooters that sort of defined my shooter experience as a child, so the combination of Splash Damage and Bethesda should just make the best gaming experience of my life, right? No. This game was so awesome and yet so very bad, the art design, character creation, and combat was just phenomenal, but the poor AI, lack of story in SP mode, and the small, poorly planned maps made the game very repetative and boring. You end up running to center of the map towards objective X, then proceed to defend/attack objective X till it explodes or doesn't, then you proceed to objective Y and repeat. And while all this is happening you basically just sit there in you huge cluster fudge of people and shoot at the other cluster fudge of people till one cluster fudge of people is a bunch of folks moaning and groaning on the floor. To actually KILL the people you have to kill them while they are moaning and groaning or a medic can run by and just pass of syringes like candy and you have the enemy right back on it's feet shooting at you again The base of the combat is very cool, SMART is a great system, but it's completely ineffective in there tightly packed maps that don't really make it all too useful at all. . I'm not sure whether it was the rush to hit the deadline or just bad planning behind the core of the game, but whatever it was this game falls so short of the goal it's not really funny at all.

I didn't get to play online so I have no clue how that fared, I had to look up the metascore which is a comprised score of every review on the internet and read a couple articles. I'm fine with a 72/100, that's pretty decent, not great, but okay. Not 60 dollars worth. I just read a bunch of hype about a tremendous story, and got none of that practically FINISHING the Security campaign mode to "save the city", and I have no clue what the story line is, it was hardly even there, Just a bunch of scenes of four guys on a bus riding to the next map with the next objective. Anyways I'm trailing off topic, heres the link to the metascores of the game.

Xbox360, not PS3 or PC, but the rating rarely changes drastically between the systems nowadays. The reviews of online gameplay are on there.

Such a bad post.  The majority of your points are wrong, so forgive me for not spending the next 20min of my time pointing them all out.  Play more than 30min and actually work with your teammates then get back to me.

Isn't that what you do in most FPS online? run at objectives, attack/defend, shoot at a lot of people, then repeat? sounds like every other shooter.

I can't play online unfortunately, PSN is down. But I played for about 2 hours and a half and I was working with my team mates. The AI is mentally retarded, my team mates run in front of my fire and scream, "FRIENDLY FIRE!" Okay... thanks, you ran right in front of me. Then the enemy all sits on the stairs and I can just rain bullets on them, I almost beat the Security storyline and I still have no clue what the story is. I'm sorry that I offended you but that was MY experience of the game, I can't return it cause gamestop won't give me full credit back for it. It's fine if you don't like it, but the truth is I didn't like it.

With very bad AI and a lack of gun variety, yes. Didn't get to play online, PSN is down.

All it needs is to allow me as a covert op to one shot people from behind at rank 5, and I'll be happy.

Couple guns need balancing and that's about it.  Oh yeah.  W:ET would have been terrible playing against only bots offline.  Games like that and this are MADE for online play.

I had some fun with it for a couple hours.  Back to Halo Reach already though.

Instead of having loads of replay value, Brink has loads of repitition

You can continue reading here, this is what I did to get the sum of the online.

It's the Xbox 360 metsacore, but it sums it up well. I mean don't get me wrong it's not the worst game I've ever played, trust me, it's not. But it's nothing special, it's just something...

I just feel like I got jipped on my money is all, it's not what I expected. Originally the concept was to follow the H.G. Wells tale of a city in the ocean, but I didn't even feel a story at all... I'm a really big story guy, and MW2 story lne did deals for me even though it was so short, this game was supposed to be the shooter that wasn't other shooters. But it's...just a shooter that is not even as good as other shooters really, I got that just from the story mode though. I dunno, I hope Rage is good, my faith in Bethesda doesn't die here, if Skyrim and Rage fail then maybe.

Just another side project game just like Star Trek Legacy was and it was terrible, sounds like this has followed the same road.

The 360 version is in terrible shape for sure..

I have it for PC and its ok at best and I honestly dont see the online portion being very popular for an extended period.

I have the PC version, and I have to say I do find it fun, though nothing as extraordinary the marketing campaign would have you believe. The objectives make me feel like the maps are a bunch of Dustbowl-type (TFC)/Assault (UT) variants, which I really do enjoy. I've also seen people try some crazy stunts with the SMART movement.

I admit, however, that I really do not like the level design in many maps as they just feel too claustrophic. And as for single-player... yeah... it's just like Battlefield 2's or Quake Wars: Don't. These games are catered to multiplayer. Though I do wish it did have a decent one, along with an actual coop that's more than just matches against bots.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, my biggest worry about the mp gameplay is that it's going to end up being a shotty game like how Gears became. I'll probably for sure put it down at that point :/

It's an ok game, the SMART movement is interesting, but for a team based objective oriented FPS Bad Company 2 is alot better imo.

As I said, i do find it fun, but this is true. Anything Battlefield is still better at this, along with TF2 and TFC (if you still play this).

The maps here are too tight, and the objectives right now just funnel players towards the same area, which isn't really encouraging the parkour type movement that's supposed to set this game apart.

No worries they will get the lag fixed but it amazes me how some comparing this to battlefield, halo, TF2 and COD. It isn't supposed to be a copy of those. Its a team based objective fps. It is about completing objectives to win not run around the maps shooting things because you can like other shooters. It is about team work not about how many individual kills somoene gets in 15 minutes.

    So, more like APB?

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

Similar yes, where you work together as a team to accomplish goals. It isn't where you can camp spots and shoot people all day from that spot. I know for some they have that COD and BF mentality but this is really a different from those types of games.

First off if you can't play online then yes the game will be horrible. The bots are stupid.

Second off don't judge the gameplay without playing online.

Also the maps aren't cramped at all, almost every choke point as 3+ ways of getting to it and thier are many paths only accessable to light body types.

I don't understand why people are complaining about it being repetitive. Every match I play is different, the game is extremely unique, and teamwork is maditory to win.

The reviews of both IGN and Gamestop where disheartening, it seems like they only played for an hour, got frusterated and rage quit. Then they played the PC version for 10 minutes and wrote some of the worst PC reviews I've ever seen.

Its a shame when a fun game like Brink comes out and gets panned, lets just hope people are smart enough to give it a shot.
