A few questions from a new player

WilliacWilliac Member Posts: 212

Hello!

I just started playing today and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. I love the thrill of a sudden ambush, although I'm still under the protection of 'New player protection'. I do have a few questions though, if you'd like to help me out a bit :)

It's quite an amazing world with many choices, but I wonder how much i should focus on. Concerning combat, should I focus on only one style of combat? Magic, ranger, melee?

Is ganking amongst your own race common? Not that I mind, but it is always good to know ;)

I expected that RP probably wasn't very popular, but if anyone know of a good RP clan, please let me know :)

If you have any other tips to share please tell me. :)

Thanks :)

You should focus on either Melee or Archery first, they're the easiest to raise and very efficient. You *will* need to raise a few magic skills early on though like Heal-Self and other Conversion spells (Mana To Stamina and Stamina to Health mostly, Health To Mana perhaps later on but not as important early). As you fight monsters you'll be able to find Reagents which will be required to cast magic skills, which will allow you to focus on stronger magic like Greater Magic and Witchcraft (both very important branches). After that, it's somewhat up to you.  There are some videos for new player on Youtube by Valroth, decent information so you should check them out.

Ganking amongst your own race is as common as ganking someone from another race. Since the large majority of clans are ARAC (All Racial Alliance Clan), you'll find yourself killing pretty much anyone. There are a few Racial Alliance Clan and as for RP, I don't know if they are still around but you could check "Yew Militia" on EU. Other than that I don't know of the current clans on EU (I transfered to NA few months after NA1 launched)

Finally, bank often. Best tip you'll ever find.

^ some good advice above me.

    welcome image

I see that you come from Fallen Earth eh? You will probably fit right in so long as you can win the battle against the controls as they are hard to get used to at first.

Compared to FE I would say that the quests aren't as good but the PVE combat is much funner because you have so many more options, no limits, superior mob AI, being paranoid of PVP, and how it feels to fight once you get your play-style down. The sense of exploration doesn't end like it does in FE too. I've been playing over 2 years and have only seen like 70% of the map and half of the dungeons (well maybe I am at 75% of the dungeons now cuz I have been exploring a lot lately? still might be 50% though cuz this world is huge).

The PVP is the best in the market if you want an adrenaline rush. In fact, no other game exists that has created as much of an adrenaline rush as Darkfall can but you have to play for awhile to get started. The PVP is not that often though so you will get less of it than most PVP games but when it happens it matters and its the fastest paced combat in the MMORPG genre where the winner takes all so just warning if you have high blood pressure this game is probably dangerous to play. Sure some fast-paced FPS game can make you break a sweat from being so hard and requiring so much skill and attention but this game is actually harder and with the death penalty it feels totally different and much more real and extreme.

If you are not good at figuring things out yourself, have a crappy computer or laptop and little IT knowledge, or want to be able to play for only 20 minutes at a time than this is not the game for you.

Send me a tell in game if you need anything. Maybe we could go quest together since there are no level limits you can group with anyone and do anything from day 1. The last couple times I took some new player with me to harder mobs my ass was saved from their help so ignore the crap on the forums you read about being cannon fodder for months before you can do anything because its absolute BS.

For RP clans there are a few on NA that I know of . ... Yew Militia and Ruff Necks. Cthulu or something like that is an evil RP cult. A few RvR-favored that are smaller and base out of starter areas. Thats just from the top of my head.

I find that only few of the many complaints are actual valid. So far I'm surprised at how smoothly it runs, the beautiful world and mob AI. The UI and control mechanisms are difficult to learn, but I welcome a challenge. ;)

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out the youtube videos and see what they can tell.

Another thing I was wondering about is the skill progression. Are there any limits as to how much they can be raised? 100.0 and no further?

Do we learn additional abilities from raising combat skills or can they only be bought from 'Service' Merchants?

Use offline meditation while raising mellee and archery on mobs, any spare gold from mobs should go into meditation. (for magic schools and stats)

Some skills can be baought by player city merchants only and i think there is one spell (not important) on mob.

oh and 100 is hard cap for skills / spell /stats  only with  buff you can have some highr stats.
