If you stop and give Rift a chance and you are looking for something "New" to play, this game is definitely the one to try.
The Rift concept itself is very interesting. Random groups of mobs attacking cities and outposts allows an opportunity to step away from the quest grind.
Yes, it plays very similar to other games on the market, but we need to move past that tired old comment: "Oh, it's just like WoW."
Give the game a fair shake... it's not bad by any means.
Agreed as everyone else said Rift is a game that is just like all the other fantasy games i bought the game and sub for one month and as said before once you get level 30 you have seen basicly everything in the game

I think that at first glad is seems like alot of games out there but once you get to 15+ the game really opens up. I like the dungeons, the invasions and the class systems alot in this game. The quests are meaningful for the zones that you are in "if" you actualy read them. The graphics are awesome and the community is great. I really like the soul system and how you can change your spec on the fly to meet group needs. Enenmies take over towns and camps to force people to band together and fight. No other game is doing that now. The higher level dungeons are tough due to the bosses random abilites which forces players to be on thier toes. The only real problem with Rift is that it came out in a a time were people have been playing WOW for 10+ years. For me its worth playing but I will be playing other games when they come out because I want a more pvp core game. Best thing I can tell you is get off the forums and try it out and make your own desicion.
I would like to say that the free trial is worth it, however in just 2 days I got two characters (A Rogue & Cleric) up to level 15, which is as far as the free trial goes. Probably the best thing I experienced during those 2 days was playing with the Cleric. Had a sort of hydrid class (Shaman/Sentinel/Warden), which turned out to be perfect for farming (barely ever died) and also pretty good for Healing in Rifts & PvP. First time I enjoyed playing a healer, since whenever I drew aggro, I could easily hold my own whilst dishing out some heals.
In my opinion I think it is worth it to try. Let you see if you will like it long term. I have been playing since well before release and am still playing now. It has kept my attention longer than some other fantasy based MMOs.
Just because something is free doesn't mean it's automatically worth it. Eating dirt is free.
And I can gaurantee you that when you were a kid you did try eating dirt. It taught you that eating dirt isn't a great idea. It was worth it to eat that dirt to come to that realisation.

Eating dirt is free. It made me chuckle inside mate. Epic.
In all fairness, if you are an experienced MMO player you will find Rift lacking. It is simply slightly unfinished and slightly shaped after too many other mmo's making it a current-gen-bastard.
Its ok, or floating between average and just below average.... depending on how often you play and how much you expect from an mmo.
It is casual friendly and will be great for any new MMO players. If you are all about DAOC,EQ,WOW hardcore raiding and stuff, stay away.
Just my 2 pennies. Yes I have played the game extensively before bothering to comment
I am downloading it and i just want to know if it is worth it.

Being serious yes of course its worth trying . Costs nothing and is proberbly the best fantasy based mmo I've played since the release of WoW . Not a perfect game by any means and certainly not next gen in anything other than its graphics but still a lot of fun to play at least for a while . Which is pretty much all you can expect from any modern mmo . Immersion and longevity is pretty much a thing of the past in most mmos now .
I tried it out yesterday, I found it to be a pretty solid game. The combat is very similar to wow's in it's fluidity, graphically and artistically it kinda reminds me of Dragon Age origins. Even on my aged PC it seemed to perform quite well at a higher than medium setting. The DL tiimes were great for me as well averaged around 500-600kbps. I wasn't dissappointed in the least bit by Dling the trial.

Yes, RIFT is worth checking out. You have to make sure you get out of the starter area and do some rifts before making your final decision on whether you like it or not.

Hey Yannisz,
Respectfully, I am going to have to disagree with some of this. It is a very "finished" and polished game with a good amount of end game content and relatively bug free. To an MMO vet (of which I am. been playing since M59, UO, EQ days) it may feel a bit samy in many ways to WOW, EQ2 (definately not EQ or DAOC though), and LOTRO. It is not a genre buster, even with the dynamic content but I would rate it as a solid game overall. They tried to do what WOW originally did which was refine the exisiting methodolgy while trying to add a few new things. So, I understand you feeling it is lacking on a personal level as that is subjective but the unfinished part is not accurate unless you feel that no MMO is every actually finished.

This is right on. You can love or hate rift and can have any kind of opinion on it, but the game definitely "finished". It was launched in a more complete and bug-free state than pretty much any game ever has been. That includes WoW, EQ2 and LoTRO that all had nearly flawless launches. Rift is even MORE polished.
I mean, they've already had 2 major content updates moving the story forward from launch. Most games 2 months after launch are still barely fixing bugs (of course bugs are being fixed too).
So yeah, it's not particularly anything new and it's somewhat boring from the solo questing perspective. But definitely "finished".

Dont ignore the experience of end game though when considering if it is worth paying for. On many servers 15-50 areas are going to be empty and a solo affair. When you get to 50 content will be completed in a few weeks and you are limited in the fun youll get from new toons, crafting and pvp.
Well mr op (if I can call you that). I've just finished my first couple hours on my first day of the trial last night and even though I find questions like yours kind of odd I will try to answer. Of course a free trial is worth it (and I'm sure you finished your trial already but this is for anyone else where I was yesterday). It installed quickly and cleanly. It's filled with help files and it's a crazy ride so far but I'm too new to really say much about it. I find myself wondering where these rifts are as I slog through the opening quests but I find myself continually shaking my head at the negative comments of "more of the same' when millions still play wow (which was more of the same itself but for some odd reason the masses flocked to it). Anyway, back to my trial.

I would say so, but its a very love or hate kind of game it seems. But 7 days, all you lose is some time if you don't like it, so why not?
I think every game is worth trying ( as long as it's free ) so definitely give it a try.
Personally deleted it within a few hours though, just felt too much like all the other games out there.
Not the most objective review but if the game just isn't grabbing me in any way I'll be out.

I got the triel due to eq2 and all of soe's stuff being down.
My wife played it for 2 hours total, she made a comment that she would go back to wow before she dropped 50 bucks cash playing it.
So for me it was a total waste of time just like beta was a waste of time.
If you never played rift before than its fun for 15 levels that is allowed, (15 is max for trial accounts) but overall it gets boring around level 35
I played in 2 betas, did not buy it at the end.I consider PVP the end game and rift falls way short here.If you like pvp
than play WAR trial, it is also free.

This is not a game.
If you're fed up with all the junk we've been subjected to over the past 7 years you won't like it.
If you still like WoW, EQ2, LoTRO, and games like that, then you will be in heaven.
Herpes is free, too, but that doesn't mean you should try it.

Just one piece of advice, make sure to try it on a very populated server (if ya european/pve, blightweald for example would be a good option)
