I took a couple of looks at the Rift forums after 1.2, to get a sense of whether I wanted to resub.
While not the worst forums I have seen, I was left with a clear answer: "No way".
The tired old fights about pve vs pvp. The "this is wow because experts are too easy" threads. The class whining. The this, the that. Bla bla bla.
Now, you may argue that this is normal fare for MMO boards. Well, yes, perhaps so. I guess, by that logic, I need to accept I am no longer interested in this tired old routine until something new comes along.
But where are the discussions about the game's challenges? How to achieve something, how to beat the other side? It's not there. The community discussions. The fun jokes? The amusing video of someone horsing around doing something silly?Nope. Nothing like that. Where are the fond quips about this or that class, the silly threads about staves or whatnot. Nowhere to be seen.
Nope, it's is all about hardcore players and scrubs, trion is a sell out, mages are op (before), mages are gimp (now) etc etc. And, to be honest, it has been like that pretty much since 1.1.
I am sick of it.
I could never go back to this game, it makes me feel nauseous to see that community. I am genuinely nauseated by it.
Basically a bunch of people who have run out of the game's content, are bored, and are supplementing their boredom by cussing and moaning.
Ugh.

wow, im wondering what section you looked at because i just popped into the rift forums to see this myself and i didnt. Not as much as make it sound anyways.
Sounds like the WoW forums...big surprise there.
Yeah i stay away from Rifts main forums.. Ill use these forums instead, albiet there not much better they are atleast standable..

You are under the delusion that the RIFT forums are a community of gamers. They are just a collection of random people who enjoy complaining about things. All you are ever going to find there are complaints. You want fun jokes and anticdotes? Join a guild or gaming community and you'll see things are quite a bit different. Going into this games official forums is a sure fire way to get put off by the immaturity of the community there, if you want to actually call them a community.
How about this. Try the game, there is a free trial. You have nothing to lose, but perhaps a little of your time. I never understood why people can't just make up their own mind, why do you need someone else to tell you what you like?
Paying $15/month to chatter about how much they hate what they're willingly paying cash to not enjoy. Mmorpg masochists.
OP, you're likely to find what you seek on the server specific sections but otherwise you're correct. It's like they took the worst they could find from the WoW trade chat and mixed it with 4chan and let them loose.
well even tho im not on the rift forums, id prob be the same way, I seriously want all the games with boring combat, easy questing and levelling, and no realy world consequences or changes or achviments to all burn and lose money so they stop making so many of them.
I agree theres a market for a few of them, but not all AAA titles should be the same fricking thing
too bad every where you go it's like that.
Things are a bit more aggressive at this point because a fresh patch changed tons of things in PvP and as usual people take time to adjust.
Lets face is people like to complain. If you look at the forums and play the game its night and day. I only use the forums when I'm bored at work other wise I play. People need a way to vent and venting isn't ways a bad thing.
The Rift forums are a strange place. The influx of 50 and bored players in recent days bitterly complaining is pretty pathetic. You could almost predict that they were 50 and bored before they even admitted it. Then the complaints about the patch problems sent the community quality down another notch. There is a definite tension and lack of humor. That observation is spot on. There is still no reason you can't ignore the forums and just play the game.
I am so glad I left Rift I just cant bring myself to play a game with such a bad community. Even if the game was great I would have still left as the community is just awful. I mean you read the first page of the forums and its just pure QQ, trashing, hating and whining.......its exhausting.

Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.
I sure if you looked at any games forums you would say the same thing. One thing I can say for the server (shadefallen) I am on and its community is that is better than other games I've been on. Forums are like TV is not real and people will say anything to get attention.

You will quit a game that according to you is "great". Just because the game forum's are acccording to you reprehensible?
To my knowledge game play and community forums are not concurrent. Every game has it proponents and antagonists, but to quit a game that you enjoy because of conjecture is asinine.
No....I have played EVE online for years and they have bad forums. Its the in-game community that i cant stand. But i do believe that the Rift forums are the worst I have seen.

I mean what could an in-game community do to make you quit and not try another server? Its silly to judge a whole game on one server in any game.
