Now that Wish is gone I am concerned about DnL...

ThoroThoro Member Posts: 56
Why? Well how many of us have actually played this game?  Not very many.  Most of us are putting all are hopes into what we think is GOING to be a great game and most of us have actually no idea of how the gameplay will be.  The game sounds great but so did Wish.  One thing you can say about Wish is they put it out there for all of us to experience.  All most of us know about this game is what we hear...just like Wish before open beta.  Is this a flame?  No the exact opposite.  I am putting my hopes into DnL for the next  game I play and I want people who play DnL beta to post and tell me  my statements wrong so I can keep my excitemennt.

Things that make DnL Better than Wish:

    1) Large scale PVP. Wish was planning on having PVP but if i remember correctly they took it out awhile before it was cancelled.

    2) WASD. Enough said.

    3) Better combat system (hopefully). Supposed to be real-time with many strategic opportunities.

    4) Bigger more realistic world, with innovative astronomy and weather systems.

    5) Same story/live content driven gameplay. Plus quests written by Gary Gygax.

    6) Social advancement system. Although I prefer a skill based system like Wish, DnLs seems pretty interesting too.

    7) More interest. Theres already 150k+, maybe even more than 200k+ people signed up on DnLs website (at least thats the last number I heard). This isnt taking into account people interested in it who havent signed up. If everything goes well I can see it hitting over 300k+ people once it retails in stores.

Thanks for repsonding.  Are you in the beta?  If so does DnL have the same chopiness/lagish play that wish (I know it was only beta) and Horizons had?  It wasn't flat out lag just a slight type of stuttering when you moved.  I have a high end system and it was like that on both games I played.

Orcc I think you are missing his point. We all know what D&L has promised. The question is whether they can deliver all of that.

I also hope that we will be able to get some beta testers opinions soon, so we can have an idea on how its really shaping up.

No im not in beta, but just in general, without bringing real gameplay into, those are the most redeeming qualities which make it stand out. It could end up being another Wish, but lets hope not ::::20::

    1. I never heard about PvP being taken out of Wish, but who cares now anyway. I've had the opportunity to see both games first hand. Wish was very lacking in many aspects.

DnL offers opportunities for battles of all scales, one on one, group vs group and many groups vs many groups. Tactics in DnL are very important. - Take out a group leader and you disrupt the complete command structure of your enemy. Terrain has a large impact on fights. You'll want to hide behind trees to cover from arrows or be on higher ground than your foe to get an advantage.

    2. Yeah, only having point and clik is crazy.

    3. Combat in DnL includes having up to 3 pets. You can have mounts - Drakes and Dragons are two seated, meaning you control the mount, while a friend might sit behind you and use range weapons. Dragons also are able to breathe fire. You can fly Drakes and Dragons, allowing for a whole new aspect of comba. There are also hanggliders, parachutes and other stuff you can use to move around. - The options seem endless.

    4. The world is 40.000 square kilometers of real topography. Up to 2000 meter high mountains and a ceiling of 5000 meters (I heard) to fly up to. Weather has direct impact on the world. Imagine being hit by lightning or being a Fairie when there's a storm. You can die from cold or heat if you're not protecting yourself from the elements. When it rains, the land gets wet and you move slower in mud, and in high snow in winter.

    5. There will be GMs to lead quest. Also players with nobility can provide quests, such as bounties on villains.

    6. Yeah, DnL has two separate experience lines. One is though fighting and the other through social avtions, including trade skills, feeding mana fountains and hunting down bounties.

    7. Indeed, there's a vast interest. And from what I heard, Wish had 60k subscribers for beta 2, but they didn't use an IP log system so they discovered too late that a majority of those subsribers were duplicates, triplicates and more. DnL is using IP log system so the membership number they have is actual members (perhaps not 100% active, but still a 100% real)

DnL will be available for download at release. It's not going to be available in shops for some time. It will eventually be released in a box, but today, there is no telling how long after release this will happen. Anyway, this will allow the core of the community (those who download and play from start) to affect the world before the masses arrive. Personally, that appeals to me.

Yes, I can understand the concerns here as well. I think whoever thinks you are comparing the two games in functionality is totally missing what you are saying. Neither Wish nor DnL have much in the way of publicity like the most recent MMORPG releases. Plus both games are similar in the fashion that neither is being developped by recognized names in the industry. So in those similarities, it's understandable to be concerned. I know I am.

    I'm not too concerned....

Reason being...they have pushed this game back again and again.  If they were soo worried about money and such...I'm sure they would've either cancelled it a while back, or launched already incomplete!

    Just my thoughts.

use some punctuation and I might figure out what you are trying to say there.

No you dont, the normal subscription which is required to download demos and some games is free... you have to pay if you want the faster downloads and fullgames.

I am in the same state there, I was so intirested in wish that I was getting ready to leave my other games of choice. Now that Wish is gone though, those games don't seem very exciting to me. I've been trying to find something new but all of the other games are either too expensive for me right now or just aren't worth the time to play.

Personaly, after looking through all of the games in development, the only one I am intirested in is Imperator (though I hope that's just a baby name). It's probrobly the ultimate "What If" game that i've seen online. They change one little feature of history and the world evolves into a superbeing in the galaxy. It really makes you think about the choices you make in life, I can't wait for them to start doing some testing.

The purpose of any battle is not to die for you country, but to help others to die for theirs.
