Dear MMORPG.COM staff and players.
1. I am a big fan of Vanguard, i think it is one of the only real MMORPG of the modern MMORPG era.
2. I dont play it. I dont play it because it has such population issues that it is almost a solo game sadly.
3. It is free now for 45 days, all content all levels. For every account that has every tried or bought or activated Vanguard.
With common logic, i came to this conclusion: point 3 could solve point 2 and so finally point 1 could come true.
What i want to say is simple: The time has come for all the former Vanguard players and for everyone who ever tried it and didnt like it at release to give it another try for free and see how much it has improved in the past few years, try it and get the feeling of one of the last real MMORPGs on the market. This is a chance to repopulate Vanguard and see if players want these kind of games or not. It is time to see if "old school" MMO gaming exists or we need to get used to the lobby MMOs that dominate the market today.
Now for the MMORPG.COM staff: If you agree with my points there is only one thing left that you could do. People need to know about it. A review or two could help so much with this issue. Giving a last chance for this so promising MMO title is a must. Please. Sony did their first step to this direction by giving free 45 days for everyone, now its time to give it some communication. Sony will never do it we all know that. I hope you love vanguard too and agree with me that it is the one of the only modern, yet old school MMORPG on the market. If you do agree with me, please give it some love, lets see how it turns out.
Thanks,
just a fan of old school MMORPGs.

I'd say that would be better done by the players. The players that go back and replay it can use the blog section here to write about their experience. That would carry far much more weight than a staff review of it, no?
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I'm patching it right now. And I will laugh my ass off if my old characters are still there. Dont know how much mileage I'll get out of it, but the price is right.
... why not just 45 free days for EVERYBODY?
I never tried it, but since it's not free for me because of that, I guess I'm not going to try it now either. Buh.
right, because 15$ a month is so much money ...
you can try the trial, its free even for you
I want to give vanguard a retry, but i can't find any download link. Any advice?
if you want to try a trial, do this: set-up a station account on soe site, download station launcher and download the trial through the launcher
I might be mistaken but trial accounts I think also get 45 free days,
Either way last I checked you can buy Vanguard for like 5 bucks if you like the trial.
No I already own the game, since launch in fact, but I bought it on digital download looong time ago and i dont have the game files anymore, i just need to find a download link for the game client.
You can download the trial, but I think the trial link is broken currently on SOEs site. If you bought it as a digital download from D2D you should be able to redownload it through there. You might be able to find the trial client on Fileplanet or something.

I agree that this would be a more effective way to go about attracting players to the game, though articles by the staff here wouldn't hurt either.
The ultimate problem, however, is that SOE has illustrated very clearly over the last 4 years that they do not care at all for this title. With EQ Next in development, I believe SOE will not support VG any more than they have in the past. It's almost impossible to generate any long lasting excitement for a game that has very little hope of future support from the parent company.

For requests of the staff, it's best o post in Site Suggestions. That forum is looked at for these types of things. Moving this thread to the Vanguard forum.

Count me in.
I can't stop thinking that Vanguard is actually the only game that took all the best of the old school, introduced some great innovations, and mixed it all with a great accessibility and deep gameplay.
It may have sucked at the beginning, but that was mainly due to developer's issues.
This IS a great game, just read most of the comments of people actually playing it.
Maybe we should stop assuming that if something has big numbers then it's great.
If you keep doing so, it means you're still not understanding that MMORPGS, just like movies and music, are a mature market, with multiple choices for multiple tastes.
There's not the right game for everyone, WAKE UP!
I love Vanguard, our entire guild loved Vanguard and played for over 3 years. It is the best PvE MMO on the market in my opinion. For us, we just ran out of content and didn't like the end game grind that it had become.
We'd all be back in a flash if there was some sort of investment in the game by Sony and some new content. We moved to Rift and already find ourselves pretty bored and longing for the old Vanguard days.
the problem with this is several fold.
1, Vanguard has a low population and many players don't like that. Therefore there is a catch 22 in that players won't play the game because the population is low and the population is low because players won't play the game.
2, Sony has very little development in the title. There is a huge amount of content but players see that sony doesnt' come out with regular updates and won't touch the title adding to #1
3, The game does hearken back to old school sensibilities AND it's still a bit creaky. There are weird, non-game breaking bugs that are just going to turn off players who are used to a smoother experience. The game has come a LOOOOOOONG way since launch but one is going to have to be ok with some "oddness".
4, players who play Vanguard really need to be in the mindset that "they are going to play Vanguard' as opposed to "I'm going to play Vanguard to see if it compares with more contemporary offerings.
We had a guild based on the members of mmorpg.com. but it just didn't fare well. The sole purpose was just to get people together. what happened was that such a disparate group of people were thrown together, each with different ideas of what they wanted/needed from a guild that it just wasn't possible to make it work.
I recently left that guild as it was pretty much over and joined a nice group of people at Twylight song.
they seem very laid back, allow people to play the way they want and help when they can.
The point is that a player needs to be determined to play Vanguard and has to be proactive in finding a guild that fits their style.

I will be playing Vanguard for the next 45 days. Alreday in and rolled a new toon. Ahhhhhh swimming above the water, one of my all time favorite bugs. +1 support.
Well if they're serious and they did open the game up for everyone then you'll see me there. I'm not one to snub my nose at free game time. I agree with the OP I love Vanguard its just a shame no one plays it. Honestly for that game to survive and truely be what it was meant to be, it needs people. A bit of work but mainly just people at this point.
I don't know much about this game but isn't this A game with no pvp??? And no I dont think its worth looking up on my own haha
There used to be a pvp server but the population became too low.
as it stands there is pvp but probably not what you are looking for.
mostly duels and the like. I heard there was some sort of arena but have yet to find it.

thanks, sounds like a cool game but yeah I like pvp... good luck guys
So I figured it out, the 45 days is for any SOE game you own as a "sorry" for the data leak that happened with the PSN. With that said I have choices now, Vanguard or EQ2... hmm well they let you redeem the time when you want so I guess pick on for a month and then the other for another month lol.
I know this game is pretty dead atm. I rolled on e.u server, wondering if it would be better to roll on the stateside one before I get to into my new goblin Shamen. Where do the most people play?
For those trying to get back in this game or any other SOE game
