looking for game with 3 small requests please

legshotlegshot Member Posts: 59

been through alot of MMOs this year, recently tried another 4 this month and can't find anything i like so, here is list of main things i'd want in an mmo/rpg/sandbox

Combat (of course, anything from normal mob slaying to group play ect)

Crafting skills (leveling them up like on runescape, mining, blacksmith ect)

Boss fights (tring to find a game with a friend, we liked to duo alot of bosses on games in the world so a game with world bosses free for anyone to kill would be nice)

Stuff i'd like to avoid:

Broken item mall shops (selling stuff that makes other players retardedly op...doesnt bother me to much just would pref to avoid)

That's about it for my lists, anyone has any suggestions for games would really help me out, i'd list games i've tried but the list is huge, can barly remember half of them :P

thanks in advance.

Did you try Pirates of the Burning Sea?

Lacks on the Boss side of the things but PvE is quite fun and challenging.

  • legshotlegshot Member Posts: 59

havn't tried Pirates of the Burning Sea yet as it seems to focus more about your ship, hows the combat on land? and the skill system  does that have any limits? also is it leveled the same way on runescape such as making 1 item gives x amount of exp, repeat that many many times to get the next level?

i have tried mabinogi, really like it and the combat system but huge downside for me was all the resources are inside dungeons = hated the fact you had to do combat to mine a rock :S and then run the same dungeon, just seems abit diffrent than i prefer, go to a spawn and mine it then wait for it to spawn.

thanks for fast replies guys hope to hear more about Pirates of the Burning Sea.

Final Fintasy XI is PERFECT for two friends to run around exploring/battling together.

    Plenty of world bosses/rare monsters.

Fantastic crafting.  Great Community.   Plenty of adventure and mystery and excitement that is even better when you have a friend along with you :-)  Definitely provides an advantage having someone with you, as the mosters are pretty tough!

The graphics might seem dated a little bit, especially at first launch from install, but go into the settings and set it all to Max and it will improve.  By default they are set pretty low because when the game came out, it was pretty taxing on systems back then.

This is not a troll, flame, or anything else worth banning me over. It is simply my pure opinion, and I have a right to share it.

:O would of never thought of Final Fintasy XI, doesn't that have limit on crafting skills though? also isnt it focused more on raiding than duo?

I do not like to give judgments because it is purely subjective also I have never played Runescape so I don't know what are you refering to.

Skill systems are separate for avatar and sea combat.

    Avatar combat:

4 professions, 4+1(shared) skill trees, 8 skills per tree, 25 skill points at max level.

    Sea combat:

5 professions, 8 skill trees, 5 skill in each line, 25 skill points at max level.

I hope I got it right, started to play recently only :-P

It's F2P so the best would be just download and try for yourself.

Final Fantasy XI didn't look to bad till found out was seriously limited in crafting, thanks for suggestion though :P

pirates of the burning sea doesn't seem to bad but seems more about your ship, even when it comes to crafting you just transport the materials then auto craft it all, thanks for suggestion :P

    Np :-)

but i would like to know where you got your info about FFXI being limited in crafting... That is a strange statement to me.

FFXI's crafting system is pretty intense, and very useful.   Some would say the 'best' items in the game are crafted, and it's not easy to craft them.   things break, materials lost, and even some of the results can be 'above' the usual, making for a "rare" crafted item!   Not too many mmo's out there have that...   just sayin.  ;-)

limit as in how many you can train, from the sites it says that, all skills can reach 60 but past 60, a player can only distribute 40 levels to skills above 60, meaning you can max 1 and have rest at 60, with 1 at 70

EDIT: i know you can unlearn and reset a skill to 60, but i want to beable to max everything

    How about final fantasy 14?

It's very much a crafters paradise and I do believe there are named monsters to be taken down. Or they are adding more in a future update, I'm unsure about that. It's a bit "whimsical" but I find it strangely compelling.

Well, having a pirate game that isn't about ships would be a bit odd, wouldn't it? :-P

'Just'? The whole point of crafting is to know what to craft. Resource gathering is only related mechanics.

Ship combat is very refreshing as it has depth and focus more on your strategy rather than reflexes. Up to each own, I guess.

yea i totaly agree with you just i've played eve, i dislike not being my character and having to control a ship, don't get me wrong i loved eve, sure i'd like POTBS too just, i dislike not being my character and actually doing those tasks such as mining, smithing ect :P

I can't say, I sort of experience the game as it comes.

I do know you can play any class. Classes are defined by what gear you are wearing. You can also assign points to various attributes as you level up. Limits? dont' know.

an interesting point of note is that though you would have to buy the game, it currently is not taking subs as it was not received well by a lot of people. So they are updating and changing the game to make it better.

It definitely runs better and looks beautiful.

you mean people can buy the game but not subscribe? isn't that abit harsh? making them buy but unable to play after 30days? as my guess would be free 30days once you buy it

theres no free trials im guessing?

I think it does cap at 50, but like in FF XI, it takes ages to get to cap. Even powerleveling your craft, it can take weeks if not months/years to cap in XI... XIV takes around 3-4 months to get, minimum.

Even though it was rejected earlier, I'd really recommand FF XI. It fits everything, except the crafting cap. There's also 2 crafts (Fishing and Synergy) that can be maxed out along with another 100 one. FF XI is in a revolution right now as it never had so many new players since XBOX 360 release.

XIV is kinda free right now, has the devs will start subs when they will find the game to be worth subscribing for.

You still have to buy the game, though (thus why the "kinda" above)

No, you can buy the game and play and play and play.

They aren't taking subs. They are letting you play. At some point in the future they will figure out a way to charge for it. But at the moment they are upset at how the game turned out so they refuse to take money.

Quite frankly I think the game is good enough to take a sub but that's my taste.

Please check Lodestone link above for the "Official information". Even the magazine has a Source link to it which makes it believable. Subs will start in an unknown date, and, on that you're right, those fees will apply.

    From that link:

[Extension of the Free Trial Period]

As stated above, the newly restructured team's top priority is to bring about improvements to the game's enjoyability, and therefore we have decided to extend the free trial period until we can provide a plan that outlines a level of enjoyment that will satisfy both us and our customers. When we are confident that we have reached that goal, we will notify our customers immediately.

Well, it may be my English but I do not see that it implies a F2P or unlimited free trial period, only that the current trial period(7, 14 days? ) will be extended(30 days?).

From Fees & Payments site I linked:

    Free Trial Periods
FINAL FANTASY XIV’s free trial period is 30 days long. There will be no fees billed for options associated with a service account during this period.

Really, It's been free since release, except for buying the game itself. They are releasing a lot of fixes here and there, and the game got actually better than those links were showing.  But yeah, the "trial period" could be describe as an "open beta" right now, except no characters-wipe. It's just that the infos on Lodestone hasn't been updated since they do plan on customers to pay per month one day.

Seriously, I don't think it is your english (and sorry if I was disrespectful earlier), but I do agree the Lodestone infos could have been more easily showing that you don't pay. I have 2 characters since release on XIV and I didn't pay a month-sub yet.
