Each of the Superhero's MMO's has their own specfic forums on this site, I'm sure there's some activity over there.

IMO the Superhero sub-genre is pretty much played out, at least as they all seemed to be currently designed, but who knows, maybe someone has some new ideas to revitialize the gameplay.

I can't speak for anyone else but superhero mmo's are never on my radar because they haven't made one that offers what I like in an MMO. No secret identity, no real crime investigations, no activity really other than a whole lot of costumed people running around fighting.  Also I'm one of those players that doesn't like the 'everyone is the hero' idea in an MMORPG and of course thats going to be a problem for me in a superhero mmo.

So to me, there are no real superhero mmorpgs. Just some games that offer online superhero action.

I agree with Paradigm.  They offer Superhero action but are pretty flat and bland even by current MMO standards.  I play Champions Online now and again, for idle amusement, but I don't take it seriously and if I had to drop a game to subscribe to something else Champions Online would be abandoned without a backward glance.

    Ditto what Paradigm said.

If I had an alter ego, an identity to hide, enemies with various agendas, etc... the stuff i like from superhero comics ad movies, then I'd find them intersting.

They often have nice character creators, though!

Ha! Agreed. When I trialed Champions online my thought was, I would never pay a sub to this, but I'd be happy to fork over $5 for the character creator as a standalone app.

If anyone takes ANY game seriously, they are playing too many games! ;)

I tend to agree with this. Superhero games are fun for a while if you're trying to think of yourself as a SUPERhero, but the games so far make everyone equal. There is no super hero as everyone is equal.

One thing that springs to mind, even though they got it all wrong, is the F2P Archlord. Why not have a game where you're a hero but not a superhero until either you or your guild prove to the game world that you are top. A guild or guilds become the justice league or a person becomes superman or spiderman etc etc through acheivements rather than everyone on the server being so making everyone... well, normal.

i was really stoked about DCUO actually, and played it a lot for a month. i quit because SOE didnt know what they were doing with PVP, and the game ended up being just another gear grinder at end game.

in other words, superhero mmo's tend to fail, or appeal to a small minority of die-hards.

This is basically along the same lines as what everyone has been saying but I think the fact that there really have not been that many super hero mmos means that they will be mentioned less. Also, to my knowledge there no major superhero games currently in development for people to talk about.

Because all of the current Super Hero MMOs just bite.  None of them are built around a seamless world and they all seem to be more about being a "game" which negates any type of immersion factor.  World build first THEN add your game mechanics.

Ditto with Eve Online.  The characters look stunning now.
