Too bad you didn't even think of PvP : it was one of the major feature of GW...

Hence if I play GW2 it will be because of a very good pvp (I'm not that interested in WvW) even better than the one of the first GW, or else I will wait until C9 is out image

It's just one step from the sublime to the ridiculous.
    C9 impatient awaiter

As others have said, it's the complete package that counts in MMOs otherwise that missed opportunity just gnaws a bigger and bigger hole in the game until you drop of it!  That said I did give it a thought: It WOULD have been COMBAT: I think this must be the core of the game experience and has to be the best of the best, above all to make the game have playability (& longevity). That said however think I'll go for:

#1: ArenaNet: For communicating the game so well and explaining the reasons for their design decisions: Finally a developer who seems to have got hold of some of the zeitgeist inside players' heads.

There are many reasons I would say I can't wait to play this game.  Dynamic events, world vs world pvp, a whole new outlook on how players traverse their world.  For once it will actually be nice to see things happen in a world then react to them rather than look at a wall of text to find some mob standing in a feild minding his own, has it out for the whole  world and all that is good. forever plotting their plans for destuction while not being able to leave their spawn area, lol.   With that said I picked #1.  Its that above all other MMO's that GW and GW2 I think have the other MMO's beat.

Sadly I would be still be playing WoW DAoC, EQ, EQ2, shit every mmo since the dawn of time I would still be playing here and there if it were not for stupid ass 15 dollar a month subscriptions.  Hell I would probably have every expansion bought also for these games if they just didn't require a sub.   I know they probably make tons of money off subscription based model, but one question always lingered in the back of my mind.  Would these companies running subs make more money if they required none.  I know at least 6 people that would buy MMO's but don't because they make us pay monthly.  These friends come to my place and see them and truly wish they could get involved but they just think its plain highway robbery that they charge subs, so they avoid them.  Now I consider those are 6 more possibles that would buy the game if it just weren't for that.  Then think of all the expansions those 6 will never buy.  I just can't help wondering what the MMO scene would be like if there were no subscriptions.

I think for damn sure that populations among all servers of every game running would be alot higher if this were the reality.  Unfortunately the MMO devs seem hell bent on recreating the success of WoW so much that they clone much of what the game is.  This has left me wanting over the years.  Its just nice to see Anet is doing somehthing a little different with GW2.

The same reason I thought Age of conan would be awesome, an active combat system. But I think things will go a lot better with arenanets way of doing things :)

I voted for Dynamic Events. I first heard it from GW2, and to my knowledge no other MMO out there has this implementation of dynamic event: where my action could cause a ripple in the pond and affect other players and the world I am in. I want to see how deep it can be implemented!

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

I have many reasons including a more active combat system, no holy triad and for once competent coding in a MMO.

But the main reason I will play it is because I really like GW, it makes sense to try the sequel to a game you like.

If I will stay or not is still something we have to wait and see, the game need to prove that it is fun to play long term.

Well, other games have dynamic events but usually does that just mean that the thing scale.

GW2 is trying to kill off the old quest log that usually is full of stuff and the idea is great even if it needs to prove itself before any final judgement.

I do like the idea that you can't think "I do this later", do it now or the chance will be gone (at least until the circle turn). It also means that mobs just wont stand around and waiting for someone to show up and start killing them, hopefully will that add to the feeling of a living breathing world. :)

Of course it might also not work at all, but it sounds great in theory. :)

The reason I will play GW2; Its the sequel to GW1 which I played and it is the natural evolution of the systems seen in that game.

    This is not a game.

Yeah I felt like the "No monthly fee" option shouldn't be included as it isn't really part of game design..plus it kinda implies that they'll bite on the next Free MMO out there.

Because I am hoping for a little of the feeling I had when I first played wow all those years ago. Nothing else has done it for me yet.

Which would require an open mindset to just experiencing the game as it is thrown at you, without reading all and everything about it before you start playing it...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Same here... I'm currently playing Rift and I'm having fun creating some unconventinal builds but the experience is still bogged down by the rudamentary combat. Something that GW2 is going to fix.

For  me it's a lot of the same reasons I loved Guild Wars 1.  It was an MMO for people that were either sick of the current trends, hated MMO's in general but like the overall idea of them, or people who wanted to play an MMO but couldn't, in good conscious, bring themselves to pay a monthly fee for a game that already cost them $50 - $60.  Of course there are many other reasons I will be playing Guild Wars 2 but I think those are some of the prime reasons Guild Wars 2 will be a smash hit to hopefully topple WoW.  The whole approach and execution of Guild Wars 2 is, in my mind, above and beyond anything else currently released or in development.  image

I liked the original Guild Wars, but hated how instanced the entire game was once you left the cities. Now that everything is open and they did away with dual classes and having a group of NPCs follow you around, I think the game will be even better.

There's no "I love Guild Wars 1 and therefore want to play it's sequel" option.

  • FeverfewFeverfew Member Posts: 120

I'm too lazy to read everyone else's posts but....

#1 reason for me is the combat :D

    #2: 1-time payment of $50 ^^
