Is it just me, or was Heath Ledger's Joker one of the facial customizations?

When I come across something worthwile (like this video) that I would probably like to see again, I use this script

    http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25105

to download it as mp4 file.

Haha yeah seen that, and damn this customization is pretty advanced. You can move the tats and scars around wherever you want on the face! Very customizable and the graphics of the characters at this level are drool............

LOL watch 12:16 Bob Marley Avatar, Avatar the movie.

The models look pretty good,  but I hope theres more customization as far as faces and choices etc.  Overall, not half bad.

  • twodayslatetwodayslate Member Posts: 724

So all they let you customize is your face?  These master race MMOs where everyone has the same body proportions are great.

  • chiksochikso Member Posts: 150

Haha, that animalistic race looks absolutely like the ones in Avatar lol, anyway it's pretty amazing.

  • ShawkShawk Member Posts: 122

    Looks amazing!

I like how you can move your facial feature marking around anywhere, hopefully by release they have more options.

    Thanks

I'm sure they will have more options by launch. They have "?" boxes as well as arrows to cycle but who knows how many. I hope there is some sort of forming once you choose your preset. Size proportions (within reason) would be good. I do like the facial placement and sizing feature, glad they rolled that out. Amazing to think this is "closed" beta.

Just not worth my time anymore.

For a beta showing us an obviously incomplete tool, it is simply stunning.

I would say, when complete and finished, it will probably be better overall then Aion's (in which character creation which was a stand out point imo), without allowing the extreme mutants that one did.

The models themsleves are extremly well crafted and very expressive, even down to ear twich heh. I can see why there is no NDA on this closed beta (which I was a bit worried was overconfident on their part).

The vids i am seeing so far are inspiring me more and more about this game.

Please be of note that this char creation screen is NOT final. Currently there are only 3 of 7 races available and the whole char creation screen is basically thrown together for Closed betas(as you see there are empty slots for more sliders, more faces, more customization)

    # A GRIM, ODD, ARCANE SKY
    # ANY GOD, I MARK SACRED
    # A MASKED CRY ADORING
    # A DREAMY, SICK DRAGON

Relief, CBT 3 and the character creation is already 5x better than 90% of the General MMO competition. =3

lol the comments on the massively post of the vid is full of 'it's really limited?! 3 faces!? Crap!' kind of posts... people really don't seem to get what they are looking at 99% of the time ;)

  • thamighty213thamighty213 Member UncommonPosts: 1,637

    soso

Yeah looks great but until see a complete version that sure as hell better have a lot more customisability then I'll not get excited.

I sure as hell hope height etc can be changed also nothing worse than body clones everywhere but within reason as theres also nothing worse than Aion's giants and midgets.

I watched the entire video and I'm a little bewildered by some of the overly enthusiastic comments here.

Yes, the models and the available options look good.

Yes, it's clear that there is room for more choices to be added prior to release.

However, what we do get shows extremely limited customization options.

Choose a face. Even if they double or triple the number of faces, of which there is no guarantee, that's very limited.

Choose hair style and color. Once again, even if they double or triple the choices, which is far from certain, very limited.

Chose make up/ tatoo / scars. Ditto from above. Yes, it's nice that SOME makeup and tatoos can be moved arouns on the face, rotated and scaled. Kudos.

No sliders for adjusting individual features, face shape, etc...

No adjustments to body, not even a height slider.

No matter what class you choose, you wear the same armor as everyone else. (You can see this in game play videos from CB3 as well).

As far as the amount of customization on character creation, it's a baby step above WoW (while admittedly looking 10 times better). Customization after character creation, via the ability to customize armor look and give an appearance different than your peers looks to be extremely minimalist.

Great art design. Presentation is superb. However, as far as customization options, it seems on par with many Asian F2P games and light years behind titles that offer real customization options.

    IMO:

    Presentation: 9.5

Customization: 1.5 (If they double or triple choices with in each customization option, that may get up to a 3+, but still woeful).

If armor look is as limited as it appears, major demerits on that. If everyone in the game with the same race and in the same level range has the same armor through out the game, or even is limited to a couple different looks in each level range, the game will not even approach the bare minimum needed to avoid being considered laughable.

I like most of what I've read and seen about the game, but if they are going to launch with extremely minimalist character creation options that are only on par with many Asian F2P offerings, the game is not going to have much shot at all in the West, even if the rest of the game kicks @ss.

I understand that people don't want their character looking like others. We live in a world where we can even see the differences between identical twins at times and we like our MMOs to have that feel of real life. So I get it, to a point. My question is why do people put so much stock into something they will only do once (unless they are alts) and the end result is something you really only end up seeing the backside of for the majority of your gaming experience? Maybe we should ask devs to put in more butt customization in because that's what we see most of the time.

Others look at your face tho :P You wouldn't want to get wipe because your raid members keep getting distracted but how ugly your character looked right?

Yeah I know it's important to a lot of people and is to me too, I just wanted to point out how silly people can be at times. Like "Omg the character customization is so awful this game sux!". Cause to be honest ffxi had the absolute worst character customization ever and even with that it turned out to be an awesome game. So character customization is not a huge priority is what I'm getting at I guess.

The bar has been set very high by a few titles we've seen in recent years. Aion, though now going way overboard, is proof of concept that an MMO can give a lot of free form, slider based character customization with out performance or development issues.

To perhaps over-genralize, there is a lot more societal pressure for conformity in the East, where as the West stresses individual freedom and encourages self expression. Asian MMOs have often been years behind the curve in the west (prior to NCSoft's Aion) for character customization. I remember beta testing many Asian titles where you were lucky to have two faces, three hairstyles and three shades of hair color to chose between for any particular race/gender. That just doesn't fly anymore, especially in the West.

What we've seen so far from Archage doesn't offer much  more customization than Lineage 2, which was woefully insufficeint for many people 7 to 8 years ago!

I hate to see a promising title squander away it's chances for success because the developers decided to give character customization the very bare minimum of effort and resources.

I sort of get it, I really do. Players don't want their characters looking the same as everyone elses. That makes sense, to me and probably to everyone. What I don't get is why people put so much emphasis on a game mechanic you're only going to do once (unless you love alts) and after a year or so you'll most likely get tired of the results anyway? Not to mention what I said earlier about the fact that 99% of the time you're looking at the backside and I've yet to see a game where I can customize that. Oh and don't forget, once people start wearing helments, hats, faceguards, and different armor the fact that your eyes are a different color and nose is longer or even your hair is a different color or style it's not going to be noticed at all.

Now I'm not saying a game developer should just go and give us 3 choices and that's it, I just want to know why people act like it's some game making or game breaking mechanic. Oh and don't forget this is beta and with all the little detailed things they have done so far I don't see them skimping on this but only time will tell if that's true or not.

Great point, better to have twice the hairstyles than more faces since your looking from the back. One argument for more Aion-ish customization is the npcs you come across. The more options you have the more diverse they can be. I don't think it's game breaking to have say 10-15 pre-defined faces/hairstyles but a few points of "pulling" afterward would add just the right amount of personalization IMO.

Just not worth my time anymore.

For hair, I probably want more of a APB character creation style, where you can control the length and orientation of each section of hair
