Delve around a bit and check out the features.  The board members are very receptive and the devs interactive.  A hidden gem this one - assuming it goes gold. image

One word describes this game. Vaporware.

I'm not sure if the devs are psychologists playing some type of test on the followers of the game. But there is so little information released, and so little advancement shown, it screams vaporware.

Concept intrigueing...But i'll assume that it has about a %.5 chance of happening.

Well, Al, Irony is the way of the world.  WISH had a huge fanbase and was Beta phase 2.  Scream "Vaporware!" if you like, but don not discount this games features.  I will root for the underdog, because beyond SOE and Blizzard, everyone is an underdog.

Example?  Mythic.  Some little company over on the East Coast puts out a game called DAoC that no one has ever heard of and you can see their success.  Many, many people would have called that game vaporware once upon a time.

Trials of Ascension has the ingredients for greatness.  It's just a matter of whether or not this co. will implement it or someone else.

So say you. I do not require "true adversity [through permadeath]" to feel accomplished.

Permadeath in a GAME is not adversity. Rather it is akin to throwing one's cash down the shitter

Trials of Ascension has been under development for years with maybe one line of truly new info thrown out per year

Games are meant to be fun, and permadeath is not fun IMHO.

image lol well said and very true.  Permadeath kinda defeats the purpose of an MMORPG, it's the only type of game (on a computer) where your character can exist and evolve for months and even years.

if theres permadeath i wanna win some real money or some shit....

it sounds cool, but i dont think i can handle that....its like being banned=)

Permadeath only happens when you die in a given time in a given timeframe. Let say you can die 10 times in an hour if you die for the elevent time on the 55th minutes then you will die permamently. At least this is how I interpret the system.

I've checked this mmorpg out a little. It seems pretty stagnant to me, but I haven't been keeping close track of it. I just know that they've had the same three screenshots up for months.

Agreed. But this will only work if the game is fun enough to play through again. There just aren't enough players willing to put 100 hours into their character, die, and then do the same exact thing over again.

I think most MMORPGs should take a lesson from Aldaron's sig. They should make "perma-death" another adventure (perhaps into the spiritual realm of an mmorpg world). That way, you don't lose your character, but if you get really high level and die permanently, then you just have an unexpected adventure ahead of you. I think that's how I'd run the death system in a game if I were making one.

Trials of Ancension is attempting to appeal to a niche market.
Ive been following for a while, and members of the forums have met the devs, and the game is going.

Its a green development team, but they have funding and a team. The music guy they hired has his own site, and on his site states that he is working on ToA, if its a hoax, its elaborate because they would have to have faked this guys whole career, and lie about all his part work..

As for no info, the site is a little low on the info, but if head over to a fansite, namely O.G.R.E, you can read all the developers quotes, and there is thousands and thousands of them, its a goldmine of info about the game.

after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...

Trials of Ancension may have some interesting character classes but the overall feel I get from the information provided is lacking. The screenshots are lack luster, and the graphics definately do not look up to par with the other current generation of MMORPG's. Does it have potiential? Yes, with a good backstory and original character classes it could be good. But I do not think that will be enough to carry this game.
