The problem i see with people being able to do all with one char is as been mentioned people like to pew pew more then heal others, healing does not show up on some nice top dps chart that makes you look ubah :)

Think a game like this will end up with people doing dps and heals is someone elses business.

Myself i just log on my prot pally in wow, can tank, do dps and heal all in one :) not as good as say a pure dps or pure healer but most of the time good enough.

You can't get away from it ... you can only disguise it,  hence the reason that this new emphasis on getting away from "The Holy Trinity" is a complete waste of developers time.

What if you can dodge the attacks or move out of the way of the attacks or avoid them in many other ways?

What if all classes can heal themselves?

What if all classes are mainly made to do damage?

Your thinking in the ''Click target, press buttons, watch UI'' kind of gameplay. But MMORPG's can be more action and movement based games also as many different genre games out there.

If everyone can 'do everything' the same as everyone else, then what's the point of classes?

I think the term the holy trinity has been misused or misunderstood.  The holy trinity is not needed and has never been needed.

What is needed are diverse classes that fulfill needed roles. (when your group size is 5 you need to tri it up or have a game that lack deepth it could have).

But in larger group sizes 7+ there is room for various roles. you might not need a healer at all if you have two dps classes that can secondary heal (if this way the lesser dps of the 2 hybrids is ok becuase you have roughly the same about of dps and healing)

The weakest area that needs work is multiple tanks ina  group, i ague easy threat changes and strogn tankign abilitys up ~50% the time alowing 2 tanks and a off healer to = 1 tank and a main healer in surviability.

In many games classes are no longer set in roles , but dps, healer, tank still exists.

Diversity is where it is at, in daoc the trinigty was broken if you asked me, some classes where mainly buffers, others dps where low but had burst, or cc'ed alot. the key is lot of ability and tons of different ways to play while being effective.

  • the holy trinity must die! lol no seriously this concept sux. If you were to design a game not based upon bogus preconceptions such as holy trinity, you would probably base it on real life. If you did a morg based on north america 1000 years ago you would have 3 hunters trying to take down a large animal. Each of them would varying degrees of skills that they would employ to accomplish there task. No need for a healer. A tank uhmm remember this is based on rl, who would want to do that. DPS yes, everyone would want to dps the crap out of the animal while not taking dmg, now that's a model to follow.
