AA is currently looking at f2p in Korea... but most games are f2p in Korea... either way Tera went with a monthly so im sure AA will follow if not... time to get a korean AA account!
Link? So far all I've read is a "we're considering all options" type of comment.
Err your comment agrees with my comment anyways "considering all options" would be Looking at f2p in Korea, You need to note Korea as they have a vastly different type of market where in many cases they sell game blocks of time by the hour in subscription mmo's like TERA so i'm not sure if hourly blocks would be beneficial to them. Google it.
Yet that means nothing when they move outside of Korea into, China, Japan, EU, NA as I said... most games there are F2P

It's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing with you and Korean MMO buisness model history has nothing to do with it. I was just hoping there was an official annoucement. If there was an annoucement, whether Korean or not, it could also include info for other regions. There wasn't one so I guess we'll stay tuned.

Sounds to me like you should spend more time understanding business models so you never have these curiosities again. It doesn't matter what they go with in any country, when they sign a publishing/distributing deal with a EU/NA company is when they'll know the business model to take for NA/EU. Now them saying the words "Looking at F2P model in korea" exist, I just can't type Korean to refind it. I'm sure if you put a little work in you'll be okay. Now again, it says nothing back any other region than Korea because they havn't finalized publishing or distributing deals in any other country.

Wow, someone got their feelings hurt. It's all good, all I was asking for was a link because I like official information. If you can't refind it no worries. I honestly don't care at this point since it's at least a year out in my region.

lol Tail, relax, no need to keep going at him. Not every exchange has to be hostile.
I actually read your first post as to mean they are favouring the F2P model in Korea, and Deron's to mean they are keeping an open mind with no leanings yet.
still, links would be nice for them talking about favouring the F2P model in Korea... where did you read this?
Anyhow, if they go F2P here then meh, another game to walk away from with regret at what it could have been. We shall see.
Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't AAA MMO titles in Korea usually P2P, with no initial box price? I think at least Lineage 2(not entirely sure) and Tera(played it) were like that. Or are these exceptions?
Like it or not F2P is the wave of the near future in one form or another for most games and a game like AA could close the gap in quality, however should they decide to take that route with that kind of investment involved they would be wise to use a model like anet uses and sell the box with play forever and then add a cash shop for good measure..
Any game of obvious quality that goes buy once play forever is fairly risk free venture for the gamer and will pull money out of my wallet with little consideration if i like the concept and while i like what AA may be bringing im not convinced at all that i would buy the game and then pay a monthly sub for it..
This of course is just my opinion and I am a much more jaded and extremely fussy gamer these days as to what i will sub too...
Because there is nothing worse than getting strung along for months just to keep you paying only to finally get to the endgame and discover it sucks or is non existant...
The P2P model will never die out but it will become increasingly hard to justify a monthly sub for many of them as the f2p and perhaps hybrid game models begin closing the gap on quality..
Every game maker always prefers P2P. They'd rather have the "steady, measurable, month in-month out" income.
But games have sunk because of a missjudgement on that very thought. F2P is a crowd-call.
-"Come all and if 10% of you buys stuff in shop, we'll have profit to compensate."
I never liked it either. It attracts all the wrong players.
It is also more fitting to a sandbox (or sandbox-like) game to be P2P.
However...
In this game I see things we gamers always asked of a game. The potential is great! And I hope it's not too early to say that AA looks very polished in comparison to past sandboxes. So,
1) I doubt they will have trouble with player numbers.
2) The design itself is not glows and glitter, so what vanity items to be sold in a cash shop?
3) China is a vast market anyway. They will have their profit even before the game crosses the borders and gets translated.
4) (forgive the wording) Kiddies are not meant to play a game like this. It's no hack and slash, it's no fast pace action and no humongous swords with purple auras. It looks like a game where experienced gamers with time to invest and patience will build, craft, play, siege, etc -create a great community and stay for years. Such players -usually- prefer CC charge on a monthly basis.
I still dare to dream though... Maybe, just maybe these guys who look into making a complete 3rd gen mmo, shall take innovative thinking a step further... Into "Pay for content" system.
No, I don't mean expansions. I mean content. Anybody should play free (thus keep it open for everyone) but if you want to build a ship, pay real $ for the process to the labor system. Anyone who uses "labor power for production, construction, crafting and other activities", will pay for it. The ones who assign themselves enough in the game to involve in such things are more prone to invest money in it without complaint. Meanwhile eveybody else can play, hunt, socialize, PvP, etc for free and without the inbalances that an item shop brings.
You play freely, on even terms with the guy next to you, but you are just a sojourner whereas someone with house, ship and business is a real citizen in this world.
I'd like that system a lot. When I have a financially rough month (hey, I'm Greek :P ) I won't pay for stuff and still be able to play with my friends. But when I got some cash to spare I'll gladly put in some to get me stuff that will let me get a better experience and enjoyment out of it.

Well, just a thought...
I have to agree and then disagree LOL
I agree with you that a sandbox lends itself to more of a P2P model than it does a F2P.
Sandbox MMORPGs focus more on a person's position, relative to the guy standing next to them....its more community focused. As such, you cannot introduce a situation where a player can beat another because they have more discretional real life money than another.
So yes.....being able to build a boat, using a RMT for additional labor power, while the guy next to you has to wait an additional week or 2.....could mean that the person that spent the real life money on buying additional labor points can get to a particular resource or island (to build a house) before the person who did it all within game.
Competition plays a bigger role in Sandbox MMORPGs vs. Themepark MMORPgs....and as such most F2P games are PURE straight up / straight down linear themeparks.
With all that said, Lord of the Rings was released as a AAA MMORPG and last I heard are doing quite well (atleast from a financial point of view) This is based off immediate numbers after they switched pay models.....but no clue how sustainable that is for a game thats intended to have a 4-5 year play cycle.
I hope it's not F2P, because considering the budget used for the game, a cash shop would have to be incredibly aggressive like Allods.
That of course depends weather they go for that type of free to play . They could look at selling it boxed with limited free content ( not limited by time but by what you can do in the game ) then give you the option of playing it with a subscription or microtransaction like they do in DDO or Lotro . While there is a cash shop in such games they are usually confined to vanity items etc .I often think when i see such posts as this there is real misunderstanding of the difference between the the free to play models .
The tens of millions of dollars spent developing this game alone says to me it will be P2P. I've read that the budget range was somewhere between 30-60 million. Why would they spend that kind of money to introduce it as F2P? Because they just like us so much? Guild Wars is the exception from the norm, and from what I'm reading about GW2, i'd rather pay for a seamless MMO world than an heavily instanced glorified CORPG anyway.
QFT
AA is a seemless world, I don't see how anything like that can not go P2P. I just hope they set it up like Lineage 2 where we pay a montly fee but expansions are free. Making someone pay montly fees + price of expansions is just stupid/wrong/greedy.
I doubt I'd play it if it was F2P, I get this odd feeling when I play free games. I also think that P2P games give the Dev's a bigger reason to support their title post-release with big updates.

The whole Free 2 Play concept is bullcrap anyway (from a standpoint of it actually being free to play)
Most of the F2P games you see listed on MMORPG.com are quick & dirty attempts to cash in on the pay model & addictive nature of MMORPG gaming. The game mechanics, art & graphics are largely lifted from an existing game and a RMT Cash Shop is thrown ontop, with "pay-for" services that essentially substitute for time spent in game. Don't have time to raid for the best in slot weapon...just buy it. Don't have time to farm up the cash for a bunch of PvP consumables...just buy it.
Then there are the F2P games that try to take the high road and keep most of the powerful items in game only......only that its really not free to play here either. While more fair (and original) than the types of F2P games mention above.....MOST players will still not get very far before they are tired of only having 8 inventory slots or running on foot while everyone else has pay-for mounts.
Just because its "technically" possible to download and login to a character for free in these games......its ultimately not free, and in some cases costs more money than a subscription based system. In a MMORPG with heavy competition among the players....a cash shop for ANYTHING other than mount variety or non combat pets gives an unfair advantage to those people with the deepest pockets.
