How "Friend Friendly" is this game?

So my friend an I more or less beat Terraria and got bored of Minecraft and now we are looking for a new game to play.  I suggested Rift (as I have played most other major MMOs currently on the market) and he agreed.  The only thing I cant really find out about this game is whether or not it punishes you for grouping such as WoW does.

Let me explain.

In WoW (and Aion pre mentor) if you were to start a new character with your friend and you decided to group with him you would level slower and basically be punshied for grouping.  It was actually better to quest side by side outside of the group for the quests because you would get less xp on the "kill" quests (which is what WoWs system is comprised of).

So does rift do this or will it still be fun, and not hurt us if we play together in a group?

In rift you get group bonus xp the more you have in a group the more xp the bonus is. This workes in instances, rift and just questing.

No, it is actually one of the things people like. Everyone gets equal xp. Also better than WoW grouping is that if you need to kill 10 cats, you each don't need 10, you need 10 between the both of you, so one could kill 6 the other 4 or whatever. Much more group friendly than wow.

Oh thats perfect.  I think it will make the game a lot more fun with these mechanics in place because neither of us will have to sit around waiting for each other as much.

If you need to kill "10 cats" in WoW, it is also like this. Perhaps you meant items which both players require.

You are going to need a lot more than that to make RIFT fun for more than a few weeks.
