Pretty interesting article read I'd say, shows that the majority of adults who play games also lead a pretty "active" life as you may, from excercising, to art, to reading, to any other activity people usually do. I find this the icing on the cake of my belief towards older gamers out there, gamer's aren't necessarily couch potato, that only holds true to a select few who choose to spend like 16+ hours a day playing a game or something.

Another interesting note at the bottom of the article shows that 94% of video game buyers and 84% of console buyers are over 18, and the average age of a gamer is 29, pretty interesting. They say less than 30% of all the gamers are under 18, which I thought that number would be a llittle higher, but apparantly not.

I consider myself a gamer. The only reason I dont consider myself a nerd is because I have an active life. Im a skateboarder, I play guitar, and I party more than I play games. Sometimes though, I will discuss Legend of Zelda: Reign of Sorrow at parties with girls, and then they are like "Okkkkkk...." and i embarass myself.

Gamers arent nerds because most gamers do lead active lives! Go gamersimage

Ninety-three percent read books or newspapers; 62 percent go to concerts, museums, or the theater; 94 percent follow current news; 78 percent vote in most elections; 61 percent engage in religious activities several hours a month; 50 percent paint, write, or play a musical instrument; and 45 percent volunteer an average of 5.4 hours each month.

Uhhh... am I the only one who fails to see the relation of this to "couch potato"? Ok, here's some of the "active" categories they list:

    • read books or newspapers
    • go to a concert or a theatre
    • follow the news
    • vote in an eleaction
    • paint, write or play musical instruments

How many of these things are actually "excercise"? I don't think there's anything in that list that would remotely even raise your heart rate. Well, maybe voting. :) I don't get it? I'm suprised they didn't list "and 100 percent all seem to go through the vigrorous activity of eating".

haha dsorrent, I suppose you do have somewhat of a point...  but u didnt mention the 79% that play sports or exercise for an average of 20 hours per month.

I go to the gym 3 times a week, play the drums, hang out with my friends, I like to play basketball and soccer, I snowboard in winter and wakeboard in the summer, I game up to 3 hours per day and I still consider myself a couch potato.  I guess it just depends on your point of view.

Nerd? Nerds are smart. Most gamers are geeks.

What kind of concerts do you go to that you don't consider them a workout?

And by "couch potato," they don't mean someone who is physically inactive, but also mentally inactive (ie, someone who just sits and watches TV all day).

Just because your hobbies aren't a sport doesn't mean you're a couch potato...

Go to a metallica concert and you'll ache for days

Playing an instrument can get your heart rate up too if you put alot of energy into it

For the reading and news things I agree with you

So, how many Metallica concerts have you been too that you were not consuming empty calories? ::::02:: I know the ones that I've been to, although I was in the pit getting a work out, I'm sure I consumed more than I burned.
