I would like to be able to apply a "no-bump" effect to some of my posts where I felt it was necessary to say something but I did not want to bump the thread.

A good example would be a thread with a provocative and baiting title and OP post. The entire thread could be filled with people proving him wrong beyond a doubt and yet it is still bumped and people keep posting. It quickly turns into everybody in the forums taking a shot at OP due to his ignorance and flamewars are bound to happen. If we had the ability to no-bump, we could say our minds and the provocative thread would quietly slip off of the front page and into obscurity.

In the situation you described, instead of growing the thread, report the offending posts and we'll take a look at them.
