Poll: Do you want viable open world PvP?

Would you like to see open world PvP end game content that gives equal rewards to warfronts? It would probably be inside contested zones, I'm not refering to ganking. But I would have to emphasize that it'll be a viable form of progression equal to doing warfronts, so that it's a valid choice.

They have already said there will be contested PvP zones. Both on PvP and PvE servers. They will be objective PvP zones I believe, but we do not have much info at all. Just the fact that they will be in the game. And rewards could be planet based. So the faction that is winning gets a buff of some kind.

I like world pvp. I would do it for no reward at all. But more engaging world pvp would be the best. It would be great if players participated in it because it was fun.

They have already stated there will be open world PvP on specific cervers, open world PvP on certain planets for the non-PvP servers, and Battlegrounds style PvP.  They have also said in at least one interview that you can level solely from PvP.  So the real question is - What more do you want?

Real, open world pvp = win.  Only giving rewards inside of instanced pvp kinda sucks.  It removes A LOT of the players who would run around looking for pvp.  Instead, those players sit afk in cities.

No, because MMO pvp is a pure joke. Spam fest virtually no skill involved, shinny loot wins, Ill pass. MW3 coming out probably about the time this game comes out. Not a real big fan of MW3 but by god atleast the PvP is fun and challenging.

How about a reason to pvp? An RP or strategic reason to engage the enemy rather than joining a random battleground to continue my solo, personal progression. God I hate instances.

I'm a unique and beautiful snowflake.

Personally myself if i'm going to engage in PvP i want something tangible, and i don't mean a PvP buff like plus 3 to atk or anything. I mean i want to fight over control of a city, Maybe have two versions of a city, one for the empire, one for the republic, and whoever has control of said city has much better prices and trainers for their city, that way you will want to PvP to get the city to your side.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

I love world PvP but with the way Bioware is setting up SWTOR I do not think it has a large place in it. Not to say I do not want it, because I do..I just want it in a limited capacity. I think they are pretty much doing what I want though.

World PvP should be based around 1 or two planets based off land control and rewarding players based on such things. The world pvp gear should be a different LOOKING set then the instanced pvp gear to provide a good reason to do it as well. I just like the idea of the game being focused mainly on PvE and epic story telling then some world pvp on specific planets on the side. It should be a great option for anyone who wants to pvp though and should not be alienated. It just needs to be casual in nature.

I don't want no world pvp at all though, cause that would be boring. Spam running instanced pvp is not fun after a very short period of time. Mixing it up with world pvp keeps it fresh though!

I agree with what Gman stated and parts of what others posted and disagree with others. I mean, lets face it, you may not like instanced PVP but whether you felt it ruined Warhammer or not it was a successful element to those who loved it...same in WOW. Now I like to vary my game styles over the long term. Sometimes I want to PVP in small groups, other times in more open world without ganking, sometimes RVR, sometimes PVE, sometimes Craft, sometimes mini games, sometimes explore, sometimes to shoot the breeze with guildies about their personal life.Thats why I'm looking foward to this game, because it has so many styles for my mood on any given day. As far as PVP, I just don't get what you want that they will not already be offering.

    There Is Always Hope!

Open world PvP just really doesnt ever work. Many games that try to force players into open world PvP fail as a result. Open world PvP could probably succeed if you could trust players not to gank other players, not to grief other players & do all the various things they seem to enjoy doing which has the added benefit of driving new players away.

Best way to work things is either open world PvP rules server OR Open World PvP by one of the various flagging systems I have seen implemented in various MMO's over the years.

I thought the way WAR handled its PvP leveling progression, instanced & zoned PvP was quite good, probably the only good part of that whole game.

Yes, I want viable world PVP.

Key word being viable. As you have already hinted at, instances that offer far better rewards for time invested is what kills world PVP.

Just look at rift. Endgame PVP is all about getting PVP gear, and by far the most efficient method to achieve this is to grind out warfronts - even if you continually lose them, the rewards still dwarf world PVP rewards in terms of efficiency.

The end result? People just sit in town waiting for WF's to pop, thus world pvp is next to non existant.

I honestly don't even know why they bother adding PVP servers in cases like these, as PVP is pretty much the same on each ruleset, it's called: grind instances, then grind instances some more.

I'd much prefer a specific world PVP ruleset where instances aka mini games are just that - fun mini games. The instances are done for fun, and or/for limited rewards, but the real rewards are from PVP and RVR objectives in the immersive, dynamic, MMO world... and not some lame re-incarnation of CTF on a 4x4 map.

    But hey, that's just me.

Though I will happily settle for viable world pvp!

There most probably will be rewards involved with completing objectives in the pvp enabled open world areas (these dedicated areas will also be on pve servers). This limits gankage in other areas of the gameworld on pvp servers as a lot of people will do exactly those things that yields them the most shinies.

    I do hope though, that those areas are more natural parts of planets than WAR's rvr lakes were. Somehow those made the world feel very themeparkish;

"Here you shall commit pvp. But not outside of this area thank you very much. Also don't come too close to those warcamp guards as they will one shot you regardless of your level."

Mythic was hugely control-freakish about what people did and where they did it: world pvp became a very zergy grind, rather than exciting and very random and almost noone engaged in pvp outside of the designated lakes.

I pray that Bioware keeps the reigns a little more loose. (And make the non-objective based part of world pvp on pvp servers rewarding as well to a certain extent).

PvP in some zones is great, but when you have full open world PvP, it can be abused, and it is rarely controlled in a decent way to prevent people from griefing. So, yes, if they can control jerks, not if they cannot.

    WTF? No subscription fee?

That's a good thing, because the same devs are creating the PvP in TOR. EA and BW absorbed them into there dev team just for the PvP. And zoned PvP will be in, just need the info. Info for the next convention?

Having PvP servers is the obvious way to handle this, and that is exactly what they are doing.  If you want it, you can have it.

Didn't pick a choice because I don't care if open world PVP has rewards or not.

I just wanna fight some foos.
