I'm sorry I'm a big graphics stickler, sue me. I was expecting completely phenomenal graphics from watching that 2.5 graphics boost, I see no difference from the last time I played, if not it looks worse. I turned every setting up on high, and yes I did go into advanced. I restarted the game and I'm looking around and the environmental textures still look like crap, shadows are still poop, and the objects in the distance looks like blobs which I used to not have before. I can play FFXIV on full settings so it's not my computer, why doesn't my game look like the videos I saw?
That.

Personally, i prefer the old GFX. I agree with you, the new stuff didnt seem to breathtaking.
Because the videos you saw were videos.
So the game still looks like crap and not like that empyreon calling video?
The game never looked crap.
The character models looks great, but the textures on landscapes are very flat and stretched. That video showed one of the best shadowing systems that I've ever seen, something Aion had been lacking greatly. When I came in I expected to see an awesome shadowing engine but instead just got the same shadows I had before. I don't understand why NCSoft teases us with these beautiful videos only to reveal it was lies.
Did you change the default settign to HIGH QUALITY? Personaly i think it looks way better.
Yeah, same thing for me too. Wasted bandwidth re-dlling this game to check out the 'new graphics'. But it looks nothing like the trailer. I used to play the game on max settings, and the new max settings doesn't look all that different. =/ oh well, maybe 3.0 will be shinier. I'll just check it out during the reactivation weekends, but I'm not subbing to this again.

Did you change the engine from default engine to High Quality engine ? ?
OP: I think you really need to post your computer speccs and settings in the game.
I can promise you that any video is made on a state of the art machine and if you don't have one you wont get anything close.
Of course they might also have cheated with the vids...
i dont know about the trial but the client itself haves better quality if you have a powerfull machine, just change the video quality, to high quality, from default quality, maximize the advanced options and you really see improved quality. Remember you need a powerfull machine and maximize every option on advanced graphics options tab
The OP obviously didnt select advanced settings. The difference is very noticable.
Beautiful in fact.
I don't play this game and I am not trying to troll it, but I do have one question. If someone wants to see a decent graphics Aion game (or maybe even a good/great one) then they have to have the newest state of the art computer to get it? I hope not because City of Heroes has some pretty darn good graphics, on default settings, even on older computers, so this would seem a step backwards for NCSoft. Especially concidering they make BOTH games.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
It would help to have a PC that has at least 2 cores 3.0Ghz, and a O/S / GFx card that runs DX10 also.
and these will not run you too much money. maybe 600 buck if you know where to shop, also would help even more if you know how to build your own system but well, thats it.
also make sure to turn on the high rest Gfx settings other wise it will look like the old Aion.
For the most part that is what my game looks like so I wonder if it's your hardware?
I sometimes notice some wonkiness with shadows in certain areas but I have a very good video card from a few years ago.
So my issue is probably because I have a very good video card from a few years ago.

I was rather disappointing as well i expected so much more than what i actually got.
Now its been a while since i played so i cant say if it looks better or not from when i stopped playing but it sure doesn't look nearly as good as i hoped it would (Yes i did switch to high quality settings and have all settings on max)
I still think it looks ok for an MMO and the fact that i was disappointing prolly had something to do with me starting to play Aion again right after i finished The Witcher 2 (Highest settings)
However graphic isn't everything and despait the fact that i was disappointing with the graphic did i had fun playing Aion again for a lil bit
Lets do a screenshot comparison.

think I see a difference.
Here's a video of mine from two weeks ago. Can you still honestly say there's no difference?
I was thinking of making one of the area in Eltnen I'm in atm since I thought it looked breathtaking.

Did they ever fix the lag in the big pvp battles?
My computer squashed the recomend specs by the game in every way, and i have a better internet connection then anyone i know, and that game would crawl during a big battle, hadn't experienced anything like it since my first days of DAOC playing on my first computer.
I thought maybe it was something i was doing, but as i checked around, everyone said it was a problem, they just learned to deal with it.
I used to lag like crazy during pvp battles when i was running a Dual core processor which half way into the first year of playing Aion got upgraded to a I7 and Now pvp lag is nearly non existent so I doubt it was caused by the game in general. The only lag i get now days is the occasional random lag spike which doesn't happen very often.
As far as the new HD graphics are concerned there is a night and day difference when you switch from HD to the Original style and in HD my graphics aren't far off from what that video shows with all settings max.
If your not seeing it then there is definatly something wrong on your end or in your settings that isn't being changed when HD is selected.
If i get a chance tonight i'll hop on and gather Screenshots to post.
My only real complaint about the new graphics upgrade was that it made my characters look different ( Pale and Shiny ) rather than the way i had them created , but using the platic surgery ticket they gave us i was able to get it back to normal.
Okay. Sorry about that guys, apparently windows was being an ass of sorts so I had to be a 64 bit version. Game looks much better.
Sorry, I dunno if there is a screenshot mode. Anyways, my game looks much better now. I'm very satisfied. I was really disappointed is all, but now that I see the updated version I am much happier. I called NCSoft and a rep helped me figure it all out, it was great.
This was my game before the patch back when I played it on the same comp minus the awesome graphics card:
and this is my guy after (with some alterations in the plastic surgery place) :P Definite difference in the shadows and skin details. But yeah sorry about my QQing, I do that when I can't get things to work.
You see. All is as it should be.
and you've got great hair. What more can one ask?
Welcome to Aion.
