PvP

cooldevocooldevo Member Posts: 371

I've tried looking around the GW fansites, and have trouble finding a real clear cut, easy english answer, that I understand.

How exactly will PvP combat work?  I hear it's supposed to be one of the best ways of doing it.  What will be the outcome for the winner/loser (ie what do you get or lose).

Thanks.

PvP is held in some call arenas where the fights are taken.

I think what it makes it so great it various skills that you can take, so it makes it very strategical- you have to chosee your skills carefully.

I am not 100% what do you get if you win, but as far as I rember some exp and some rating (fame).

But even greater are GvG fight where in original there could be 16 v 16 players. Can you imagine that kind of battlee?::::15::

That sounds very cool.  Would it most likely be done in an arena as well?  Or could GvG happen anywhere?

in tornements if u advance u recieve fame, the more fame u recieve the more skill points u get,in arena you get nothing if u win but u do get lots of exp.

GvG happens betwen two guild halls, each guild has its own guils hall and then one guild must breach in other guild hall ( with help of your own guild thief- controlled by npc) and kill the guild master(or something like that- its a npc ), so whichever guild is the first to kill him wins. There is even an lader if you go guildwars.com and press ladder you can see the results teams have made. The fights are wery cool and as i said it loots depends on strategy you choose.

And if you want to know more be sure to try beta test wekkens at first weekend in february.

Aparently your meant to fight your way up to the hall or fame or something and if u beat enough people to get there you get ur name in the hall of fame i cant remember where i heard it and im not 100% sure its true but im sure thats how it works.

im an alpha tester, so i think i can shed some light on this subject.

pvp in guildwars is set up to be very simple, but also very complex. at its most basic, GW pits two teams of either 4 or 8 player teams against eachother in a variety of venues. for the 4 player pvp, there is the random arena, where 4 random people are put on a team agains 4 other random people in a deathmatch style event.

in the 8v8 modes, there is guildhall, which pits an 8 man team from you guild against an equally ranked (based on ladder points from wins and losses) where the objective is essentially reverse CTF, you kill the enemy's npc guildlord. but the twist is that both your and their guildlords are sequestered behind wallls that are only openable by the npc theife each team has, and there are pleanty of npc guards for both sides to keep things interesting.

8v8 tournament mode pits parties of 8 (you choose a party as in the pve sections of the game) against eachother in various modes like capture the relic, kill the guildlord and other types. as your team wins you move up in the tournament structure playing on different maps as you go, eventually getting to the hall of heroes, although im not quite sure on this as i dont pvp much. also some of the tournament maps pit 3 teams of 8 against eachother, but its random which map you get to play.

as in the pve, you only get to take 8 skills with you into the instance. it is very fastpaced and strategic gameplay. there are very few instances of "zerg rushes" and no ganking and greifing. pvp is entirely voluntary, and a hell of alot of fun even in the random team mode. what the organised modes boil down to is player skills, the quality of your combat leaders in making decisions, the team build, and strategy to go along with that build.

thats about it for GW pvp.
